Wow! As a former Mormon, I appreciate hearing from Martha. I am only recently awakening to certain events of my childhood and how devastating they've been to my romantic relationships. I found her book by accident and decided to get an overview here on KZread. The stars aligned. 🙏

Love Martha Beck’s writing and story. This conversation was a balm. I saw a few interviews with Ms. Beck where she was so hyper I couldn’t take her, she stressed me out. This format I think is very good cause she can be passionate but calm. Appreciated this.

About 7 years ago I woke up in the middle of the nite , sat right up in bed & heard the word Breezy clear as a bell ! 🌟🌟🌟 It felt so good as I felt it move thru my body . Swoosh . 🥳 I wondered is this my new name ? I had been wondering how come I never had a nick name . It took me a while to be able to tell People about this name . I'm pretty sure now , it's my soul name 💥💥💥 In the end I said to People " this name makes me happy " it's light and airy , reminding me to lighten up where as my given name is so serious ,, so it's the balance I needed . 💚💙💚💙💚💙💚💙

Just got some bad news about my mom, her cancer is back and they need to do more surgery. I immediately came to listen to this episode again because I find both Elizabeth's and Martha's stories to be so comforting and helpful. Thank you all for this podcast. It's a scary time for sure but we've been here before but that was when mom was many years younger. 93 and general anesthesia twice in one month isn't the most exciting thing. On one hand I feel helpless, powerless and frustrated cuz I want to DO SOMETHING! but on the other hand I know we all signed up for this and none of us know the future and it might very well turn out to be the best possible imaginal future, and then even better. But today is a tough day for sure.

Your discussion is so interesting in the way it parallels my current journey. I'm committed to ascending 14,000 feet mountains this summer. I now believe I'm doing it to prove I am brave enough. It's a deflection from me needing help in designing a platform for discussions on creativity similar to your excellent talk right now. I'm so grateful to you both.

I just stumbled upon this interview - am very glad I did! Among the many (MANY) gems, is the question from "Jennifer" (@ 1:00:00) when Martha and Elizabeth were asked about their "real" lifestyles... the diet Martha speaks about (no refined sugar) and Elizabeth's description of her day were very helpful. I have recently been on a whole-plant based diet (which has helped me to stay in my integrity), and also the reality of enjoying living alone is happening for me, at last. I'm looking forward to diving into Martha's book. Thank you B&B for hosting this virtual event. Very much appreciated.

I still believe it's AN ESSENTIAL project to teach humanity about the Creative Arts. I don't care if people don't believe in it. I taught it and saw it work first hand. No matter if students were in the arts or sciences, the Humanities liberates all.

I also feel like it’s important to give ourselves permission to not feel like Labrador retrievers all the time, that doesn’t mean you’re getting it wrong. Sometimes the kindest, healthiest thing we can do is feel the hard stuff and for however long it needs to be felt, that’s really and ok.

Wow, I've been doing a ton of self-reflecting the last couple of weeks about my childhood, my life as I've created it to this point as well as how I deal and have dealt with my negative emotions and negative thoughts throughout my life. This conversation resonates so well with everything I've been figuring out about myself that I never before had taken the time to sit with. Thank you for sharing it. Oh and I've never read Dante but I do believe especially after this that I'll have to give it a shot. :-)

Gosh, I'm trying this 'no lying' thing..now admittedly, not in hugely high stakes situations, and it does actually make one feel so much lighter..AND is making me far more chill about other people's actions, figuring the pal that flaked on me was just expressing her truth at that moment and hence I took it far less personally than I might have normally. I did lie to a homeless person about not having change though....and it was very hard NOT to lie to the next one, and just say no.

Fine = fucked up , insecure , neurotic & emotional . 😂 I asked my husband once " What kind of response is that ? " That was his answer to everything . Fine . Maybe that's a left brain response ? 🤷🏼‍♀️ If I use the word fine , it's not very good at all and I just don't want to complain . Ah hah . Being the good girl . Now I see , it would be way healthier to tell the truth of that exact moment . Time to tune into how I really feel . If I'm not feeling great , check in with my breathing . If they're still around , they are my People. 🤗 ❤️💥❤️💥❤️
