I am 87 yo, knew the "Italian" man Simon Rodia as he walked through neighborhood picking up broken plates and stuff for his towers. People regarded him as strange , but kind and harmless. I am glad his efforts are recognized and honored!

Tears came to my eyes when I heard the narrator say how he as a kid was chased away from the towers. I experienced the same thing me as a kid used to walk for miles down there and play it was empty broken glass everywhere.. the builder had long been gone and it was sitting there abandoned

I have so much to remember about all that I see in this video, to include the Watts riot, Watts Tower, the art, etc.... I remember during my art class in 7th grade I did a stained glass ..In Watts there are a lot of alleys. I went up and down all the alleys and found broken glass. During that time beer bottles were Brown, 7-Up bottles were green, milk of magnesia bottles were blue, etc. In our art class there was this picture of this woman who hung in our class her name was Mona Lisa. My project was a stained glass of this person. My art teacher who was very connected to our community he influenced the Bank of America to display some of the students art projects. My Mona Lisa made the list and as a result it hung in the Bank of America on the corner of 103rd and Compton avenue. When the Watts Riot happened in 1963 I think it was in the fire that gutted the Bank of America... One memory among many.
