I watched this yesterday! The atmosphere is so foreboding, claustrophobic n the horror keeps building up throughout until the final revelation. But I don't know if the beast's appearance itself did justice to the build up. Psychological horror is in vogue! Thank u for doing this, you have answered the questions I had!

After watching this movie, I feel the ultimate message of the movie is about mental illness and its effect. The Beast represents PTSD which is why it always occurs after someone in the movie dies while someone had witnessed it. The scars probably represents the self Inflicted damages done by PTSD survivors Or it can be a metaphor to the scars he will always carry on his back till the rest of his life. The film is shown to the audience through the eyes of PTSD victim which is why the environment is disturbing,depressing and claustrophobic. The returning of the beast signifies the reoccurring panic attacks which gets worsen with time and age in case of the PTSD survivors if they got triggered by facing same type of situations which in this case was death by suicide.

It's hard

this is not just about the beast but also how fear affects human minds( I personally think its the mixer of both theories as it portraits both , but I would lean towards the beat theory more as if it was just psychological then we would not be able to see the beast ) .. it is really beautiful and just going to be honest I had more fun listing to you're explanation than watching the movie
