In a way THE WALTONS done in this way describing family life with all the good and bad sides and including the hartships of the time was a a trendsetter for many other shows like in WAREHOUSE 13. Jack Kenny one of the leading Producers always made it a point to bring out the actors on in the stories as a family. That explains The Waltons déjà vus I had watching that Fantasy Show.

Amen Amen Amen. Please writers get on the ball for something worth watching with one's family. Lots of laughter, some Faith, lots of respect for parents, families eating at the table together and having nice conversations and saying grace before meals teaching children how to be grateful for what they have and not to grumble and disrespectful to their parents and elders. It's so lovely to see that kind of life and it is real life teachings. No cursing around the home. Children doing chores and using their time constructively and not glued to a television set instead of completing chores and their homework. I could go on and on.

Their families were farmers and cotton pickers. And everynite We went through the "Good night, John Boy!" Routine with us all saying our names. There was 4 of us kids 6 thru 17 at the middle 1970's. Of course, we said this while in bed and after lights out. Drove our parents crazy. But we heard them one night talking to a neighbor friend and they were laughing about it too. We kept up the tradition till the last kid left. And when we visit each other and spend the night we still say it!

The Waltons was one of my favorite shows. It's a shame about John Ritter passing the way he did. I loved him in Three's Company. He was such a funny guy! Being the voice of Clifford the big red dog was not mentioned. After he passed, it stopped airing and a new one was made. Not the same without John.

Loved the Waltons. I still like shows like thst. They don't make enough of them. They are so refreshing. The family had a lot of love and was a great 3xample how respectable children should be raised to love one another and every body else. Manners was something that is lacking very badly in todays world among young people. It's sooo sad.

Humbly I must say, that I was blessed to be a cast member on The Waltons for 3 seasons and l looked forward, every single day, to the fun and the camaraderie that was always there. My role was the Walton family’s favorite Radio Star, the Singing Cowboy, BOBBY BIGELOW. All the music that you heard us perform was performed LIVE just as you saw it on film. No pantomimes or lip syncs. The producers had insisted that I be responsible for hiring the real musicians to be my band THE HAYSTACK GANG. So I hired my longtime friend and amazing musician, Billy Graham, to play the fiddle. Billy was also the fiddler for Glen Campbell and after appearing on The Waltons in several episodes, he was unable to make our filming schedule because he was on tour with Glen. So I was fortunate enough to locate the perfect person to fill the role. The man who could play the fiddle super well, and also look the part of a classic Country Music Fiddler was Oscar Whittington. Oscar Whittington, from Bakersfield, was a true Classic Country Music Fiddler of the Highest Caliber. Sadly, both of those wonderful men, who never failed to delight us with their fiddle playing, deserve to be a part of this “Tribute to the Cast Members who have gone on to their ETERNAL BLESSED REWARDS”. 🏆🥇

The Waltons was inspirational and beautifully made TV programme that is still highly relevant today. I watch it daily and it’s is amazing how the episode of the day will parallel the world situation in our time. The acting was consistently outstanding, the stories so real and easy to relate to and it presented the deep spiritual values of my upbringing and many Canadian even now. It’s way at the top of the list if not #1 in television history! We need more like it now, where faith, Hope and love and mutual respect for each other is lived out daily by our society!

I so agree with you about Heartland. It was great until they made it politically correct in a way that didn't fit the country life plot AND starting showing less and less of the horses and Amy dealing with their issues. Heartland was a about a strong, even though unconventional family, but they tampered with the success of that.

And when I was going to high school the show The waltons started. That was in the 1970s and my history class started doing about the Great depression and world war II and my because my mom and dad had lived during that time they were a wealth of information for me. Dorothy Dromgoole- You were going through high school in 1970 and I was 20, following in the Waltons' footsteps, with my Grandmother Hazel holding my hand through the process. She taught me how to live that 1935 rural lifestyle. Folks are saying that you can't go back, but what remains of my farm family continues to live it in the Down Home Americana lifestyle in gratitude, down to the kitchen wood stove and the hoosier baking cabinet. It is the back bone of our small rural town and can be found in niches around the USA.

  • @dianehall5345

Yes- I am living a 1935 " Waltons" lifestyle today. We are a working farm. We live the best of 1935/1940. It got us through two years of Covid in safety and comfort. Grass-fed beef- Haying- gardens- firewood. Life here was a normal day of John & Olivia Walton's family, which was more than OK! We have a 1930 Home Comfort kitchen woodstove for the colder New Hampshire months. Yes, New Hampshire. You don't have to live in VA to have this lifestyle. It is down home, wholesome Americana living. Watch the movie prior to the pilot TV series. It is available on DVD from Amazon. Set in 1933, called, THE HOMECOMING stars Patricia Neal playing Olivia, but the children are all the TV cast. It is truly hearwarming! ~ Diane
