Andrew Lincoln left the show because while he loves being Rick Grimes, he HATES being away from his family filming 9 months a year. So a compromise was reached. Andrew won't return to the show but will reprise Rick in a TV film trilogy which will only take 2 months out of the year to film and thereby let him spend more time with his children while still keeping his foot in a world he loves.

Nothing against Sasha but it would’ve been a perfect episode if the last one was Glenn. I mean for me personally when Shane, Hershel, & Glenn each got killed off, it felt like they took a part of the show with them. They’re the 3 characters I miss most.

It's crazy how after all Shane put Rick through and even though he turned into a terrible person... Rick still sees him as his best friend.

Someone (can't remember who) made the comparison to Dorothy's companions in The Wizard of Oz: Shane (The Lion) was the manifestation of Rick's courage. Hershel (The Tin Man) was Rick's compassion. Sasha (The Scarecrow) was a manifestation of Rick's intelligence. She sacrificed herself for the greater good and to protect the group, as did Rick.

Thank you for bringing this up. It made perfect sense why she would come up in his mind. And from what I heard, Chandler Riggs is cool with what they did to Carl, but his dad, who is also his manager, is very angry at AMC. So he probably didn't want Chandler to go back.

@@henrygibson9107 they didn't reach out to Chandler to return for this. Mainly because Angela Kang wanted to keep the whole trend of Rick "searching for his family" throughout this episode. So, they didn't ask Chandler to return for the episode.

They need to give a damn gpod reason in the movie as to why he doesn't come back to his family in 6 or more years. Everything we know about Rick's character points to him doing literally anything to get back to them as soon as possible.

I’m thinking it will be located over seas. There is no transportation to get across the ocean and it’s not like he can fly a plane or a helicopter and take a ship back. He would have to find a pilot to get back. My guess is something happens to the group he is takin by and then he is trapped wherever he is over seas. He wouldn’t be able to get back.

I think Jadis lied in the end about Rick being a B. I think she knows he's an A but told them he's a B to give him an advantage for when he gets to wherever he's going. They'll think he's a weak B but is really a strong A, and Jadis knows it.

23:30 The time jump was about 6 Years as said by Scott Gimple on Talking Dead - She was aged 3 at the start of Season 9 and after the massive time jump, she is 9-10 Years old.

I know it's been years but the song choice for the helicopter scene was because the tank ending scene of the very first episode of season 1 uses the same song.

When Maggie chose to not kill Negan, it reminded me of that episode from Avatar: The Last Airbender where Katara decided not to kill the man who murdered her mother all those years ago.

I think an A is a live prisoner or a walker and a B is a friend/recruit. Anne was hoping father Gabriel was going to be a B and be with her, she was so sad to realise he was an A. She said to the helicopter people that Rick was a B and she needed to save him as he's her friend.

Huh, very interesting and sounds about right. My original theory was that A's were easy to handle folks, those who could adapt back to a more civilized way of life AKA Non-troublemakers. B's are the gunslingers, those who may sniff about where they don't belong, troublemakers essentially. My thought was she was sorting the civilized from the troublemakers. Like the turn of the century into a new era, when civilization came for outlaws and pirates. That way of life died. I noticed they stopped the helicopter when she said she actually had a B which tells me that A's are more valuable to this group. Though it's probably more simple then my theory.

Unless like Echo said, B's are friends/recruits and A's are people who have been bitten or people they chose to infect. Candidates basically, Jadis desperately wanted to leave and she was going to infect someone she liked to do that. That tells me at least her people are studying those who go through the process of death when they are infected. Perhaps the CDC from season 1 is not entirely gone and they're taking people to look for a cure. She took Rick with her, and Andrew Lincoln is getting a 3 movie deal. There's a 6 year time jump and by the sound of it, he didn't try and reach out to his group. So either he's dead, being kept there against his will or he's got a real good reason to stay there and I think it's about the cure. @@joost199207

I think the reason they had Sasha in the hallucination with Rick surrounded by all the bodies... was because she was the last one. If I'm not mistaken, she was the last of his "family" to die in the war with Negan.

They didn't get Carl or Glenn in that scene probably because the actors wouldn't want it. I remember after Glenn died Steven Yeun said that he wouldn't come back not even in a flashback, I believe he was okay with the iconic comic death he knew was coming but there was something about him being one of the only asians and him expecting more or something, I don't know. So he wouldn't come back. And Chandler Riggs (Carl) well, we all know about that, so... Sasha it is. Plus there's the martyr thing, the way Sasha went out was kind of what Rick did. But the first reason is that they couldn't get the other actors probably.

Seeing Daryl cry and Michone fall apart is impossible to watch with clear eyes. But even with the tears I still can't stop wishing Daryl would take a damn shower.

This episode is in my top 3 of walking dead episodes, I did not expect to like it as much as I did, I hope this season would be amazing and so far its the best in a long time. Seeing Shane, Hershel even Sasha made me feel things for the walking dead i didn't think I would again. Angela kang has showed she knows what the walking dead is about. I'm so happy I'm a walking dead fan still because this episode really made me excited for the next 3 episodes and honestly that transformation to the time jump was very cool.

9x05 for sure in the top 3 best episodes thus far

Seems like a lot of reactors didn’t really listen to the messages that Shane, Herschel, and Sasha relayed. They were more focused on who was relaying the message. Sasha’s appearance makes sense as she was the only martyr on the show. She sacrificed herself for the family. Just as Rick ended up doing.

Sasha was one of ricks 'followers' and telling him how he affects peoples lifes, and in season 4&5 the were pretty close

Now, we are always on the same page on things but Sasha made her mark in this show. She was one of the most underrated characters this series had. She had the best female relationship on the show with Maggie. Her and Tyrese had a great sibling relationship(3rd place). She was the best shot in the Group. She is also one of the better actors. Her and Andrew Lincoln obviously bounced off each other with so much ease. Plus the whole point wasn’t to bring up all the big deaths that impacted Rick, it was to show him the big lessons that he had learned that kept him going. Would it have been cool to see Glenn, sure but honestly, the scene was cool with Sasha. She was the only one who sacrificed herself for the ENTIRE Community. It’s actually ironic since she was one of the ones against it in Season 5. To say her being in it was a negative, isn’t right.

cxrxa I think he will come back in the end after the movies. I bet that’s why they did the 5 year time jump so they could age up Judith and give a bunch of space to do movies with rick explaining why it takes him so long to get back

That last song was played in the first episode when Rick was in the tank

The song playing in the end was the song used to play in the end of S1E1 when Rick gets in tank and been cowered by zombies all around him.

I think that was the point of the hallucinations was he was looking for Lori and Carl. People kept trying to tell him wake up you already found your family (Judith, Michonne and the rest of the gang)

From what I understand Steven Yeun didn't want to come back and Sonequa Martin-Green was available.

I think Jadis Lied about Rick being a "B" to protect him from whatever the chopper group does to "A" types. I don't think Rick is going to a 100 percent safe place he's not going on a cruise lol. I think the helicopter people are going to treat Ricks injury but he may not be allowed to leave he could be held in a padded room strapped to a bed unable to escape. Gimple said that we will learn what happened to Rick in the upcoming AMC films. we won't see Rick in the main series but we will see him in the three movies. Rick's probably going to be struggling to get out of wherever he is.

Did anybody else catch that the song in the helicopter was a throwback to the first episode?

In episode 4 they talked about a contingency plan to blow up the bridge. That's why the dynamite was there.

Also that song that plays when Rick is flying off is the first song that plays when he hears Glenn's voice in the tank

Oh and I still think Andy might come back for at least the series finale. Since gimple said the movie universe will connect with some of the show and other specials they have planned. It would be kind of cool if the final episode of the series ended was its ricks return and the final film being ricks reunion and maybe the end of the walkers in general maybe a cure is found.

Angela Kang reasoning for why Carl and Lori didn't show, is because the whole journey Rick was on this episode was to find his family. It was a survival instinct seeing Shane, Hershal and Sasha because they gave him reason to keep going. If he found Carl and Lori, he wouldn't want to move on and keep going as he would have found his family.

In the Talking Dead show following it, they said that the time jump at the end is 6 years after Rick leaves. They said it is the last of Rick on The Walking Dead show, but not in the Walking Dead universe. He will be in 3 movies. They will pretty much cover the time jumps. One movie will be the 18 months between beating Negan at the end of Season 8 and the beginning of Season 9. The other two will be the time jump 6 years between Rick being rescued by Ann in the helicopter and the end scene with Judith. There will also be movies detailing the origin of The Governor and the origin of Negan.

If you compare the scenes between Gabriel and Rick it’s safe to assume that an “A” is someone who is taken by force and a “B” is someone who comes willingly or out of need.

There was a 6 year jump and wow, if you all could have seen Carol's new look! Andrew will only do a series of AMC Walking Dead movies now, it was on Talking Dead. The movies will go into where he's been along with other's back stories who have passed on and more!

I loved this episode, one of my favourites. I'm still just as hyped for the future of the show. However, I do agree with the points about Sasha and Rick leaving his family. With the latter, I'll give them a chance to explain that in the next episodes. Films with Andrew Lincoln could be very cool.

Did anyone notice that Maggie was wearing a white shirt for the whole episode, but when we see her dead body in the Sasha dream sequence she's wearing a pink tank top. Later when the group comes to rescue him (in THAT dream), Maggie is again wearing the pink tank top, but when the group ACTUALLY show up, Maggie is wearing the white shirt again. Just a cool little detail I noticed. It's in Rick's head, so it wouldn't make sense to dream her up wearing the same clothes as she's actually wearing, and a neat little way to hint straight away that he's still dreaming when everyone saves him :D

I've read this in an article, that the reason they didn't have Lori or Carl come back for that last cameo, (btw apparently Carl is in the pile of bodies somewhere) is that rick is looking for his family, and if he saw either of them he would've felt like he ready to die and not move on. And I don't think Glenn will ever return because the actor saud he has no interest of doing so. Sasha, is a random choice because she didn't have that much of a connection with Rick, and I feel like that speech couldve been more impactful if it was spoken by literally anyone else, like Dale or Beth or Tyreese, even Jessie, but its still nice to see her again.

Rick is in coma status again! That explain why in 6 years+ cant come back...

One way to explain Judith's control....remember that they have to make their own bullets. Eugene could easily make a custom bullet for Judith with a significantly reduced grain. The grain count on a bullet is what gives the kick. And a magnum bullet with half the powder is still going more than fast enough to punch thru a decaying skull. Just a thought.

I figured it was Sacha because she was a good representation of someone who followed Rick and found strength from his leadership. She was telling him how he helped her and the others do whatever they need to do to help the rest of the group.

My theory A = Enemy (Maybe infected because they do research to find a cure. Jadis always tried to get A's bit by a walker before pickup) B = Friend

I was waiting for this reaction to this amazing episode. I think *A* is simply *a fresh walker* (hence why she said to the priest that she didn't want him to be an A, and later lied to the helicopter people because she couldn't kill and deliver him), while *B* is *a living person* (which ended up being Rick).

Rick's story could possibly mirror Homer's Odyssey, wherein Rick spends years trying in vain to get back home to the ones he loves, to his family. As to the poll question, I think I'm more excited, anticipating where they will take the remaining characters, as well as the new ones.

A year in a half in an isolated cell with occasional Rick Talks and people giving food. I would go crazy. Even people in prison get TV time, internet, visits from friends/family, outdoor rec/lift weights, books to read. He has nothing but his thoughts. I would have gone insane in the first month. But even with the time jump, he is still there? How can anyone survive that without TV/internet.

Great reaction, I guess you all know by now that Scott Gimple announced on The talking dead that we are getting three movies with Andrew Lincoln reprising the role of Rick Grimes! I'm sure it will show us what he's been up to 6 years after he was taken! Yes we got 6 year time jump! Also not sure if you read the comics, this new community is Magna's group!

Seeing Herschel in this episode was probably the hardest i've ever cried from any form of media

credits: ZombieMom73 I've given the Sasha appearance more thought and now I think it makes a kind of sense. Each person he spoke with in his visions was someone who could give him strength when he needed it. I think seeing himself in the hospital bed reminded him that he was a survivor and he needed to get off that rebar and try to keep going. Shane reminded him he has the potential to be savage and that's what he needed to draw strength from to wake up and fight off those walkers in the cabin. Hershel reminded him of his strength of character and his commitment to family so that he could wake up and keep going when he felt tired and wanted to give up. Sasha reminded him of the strength of sacrifice, because that's what she had done, and was able to push him on toward what he now understood was going to be a sacrifice for the people he loved. Imagining Michonne and the rest of his "family" coming to save him at the bridge gave him strength to get up one last time and make those last few steps across the bridge for them.

That's insane, so because of the six year time jump it's been almost 10 years since the outbreak. So it's roughly the year 2020 so in around the beginning of season 10 we'll be caught up with the survivors.

Sasha is more of an example of how everyone in Ricks group is his family.

When they all came running towards Rock on the bridge but then didnt.. For most I think got RICK rolled!

Don't be hating on my girl Sasha, I get what people are saying, but she wasn't meaningless and there are people that do like her (me included). Her meaning to Rick of course isn't as strong as Lori, Carl, or Glenn, but there is no way they're getting most of those actors back. Steven Yeun for sure isn't coming back and the way things ended with Chandler I doubt we'll see him again. Lori's got her show The Colony I don't know if we'll see her again either. Sonequa was a good sport to show up at all.

something tells me that the guy in the helicopter could be one of Georgie people trading stuff and thing's a little Rick humor, they tried that once before in session 8 with Maggie & the key now jadis what if these people turn out to be Georgie team from Commonwealth I was thinking it could be them since the key ep & now in session 9 it sounds like them.

I think its poetic how earlier When Maggie came to kill Neagan Michonne and stopped her and she couldn't give Maggie a clear answer on why she shouldn't kill him other than she has to get over glen and now she has to feel Maggie's pain thinking Rick is gone.

I wanted so bad to see negans reaction to being told that rick is dead. But we will never know because of the 6 yr time jump

I loved seeing Sasha again. I can think of plenty of scenes with her and Rick. Also she sacrificed herself which is what Rick intended to do.
