It wasn't even her death that got me. We knew she was going to die soon, and i noticed a giant red flag when she said "I'll let you know when i die", and i was like "oh fuck no", she isn't even dying to the illness. Lo and behold, she didn't. So the entire funeral thing didn't get me too much, but when he started reading that goddamn diary, it got to me. Twice. First the recap of what they'd done, it took me out when she said she was fraid of dying, and then again when he read the part she wrote just for him.

4 years ago, a new classmate transfered to my class. She was a quiet and rather mean girl in the beginning. As a couple weeks went on, she got alittle more comfortable and tried making some friends, one of which was me. She was still that mean antisocial girl to most but she started to show a brighter side of herself as we got to know each other along with a couple others. Later on, she revealed that she had a heart disease where her heart could literally stop anytime and had to be sent to the hospital emmediately. At first we were shocked but weren't really bothered by it as we took it lightly (basically a bunch of 14 year olds underestimating reality). Time went on, and we created memories. She joined my music club and we performed on stage on a Halloween performance. All was well and she seemed to be having fun alot of the time. Then one afternoon during school break while i was having lunch. I received a text from the class group chat that she had passed in her sleep due to her heart stopping. I sat there staring at my phone with a tear being shed. I had never shed a tear or felt this way before. It was my first. My hands were shivering and I couldn't move a muscle. All those memories flashed by in an instant and all I could think of was how we all took advantage of her situation and looked passed it. During the funeral. Only a handful of us came as most of our classmates were not very close to her. When I walked up to her mother and introduced myself while visiting, she told me how we had made her year in school so much better. The main reason she left her old school was due to her inability to fit in. And within that 1 year of her being transfered to our school, her mother told me she was the happiest she had ever been and had mentioned my name a number of times during dinner time. At the time I didn't thought much about it and just felt sad. But thinking about it now after watching this movie, it touched a deep part of my heart.

The subtle foreshadowing about the real reason for Sakura’s death throughout the movie is crazy. Side characters casually talking about how dangerous it is outside, TVs in the background mentioning the rise in crime. But we don’t think anything of these extremely niche exchanges until they’re suddenly thrust into the limelight of the plot. You feel cheated because you thought, if there’s anything I can prepare myself for while watching this movie is for her death. But we don’t even get that, and neither did Haruki.

To be completely honest, this movie can rival A Silent Voice even though it has such a common trope. I felt like I was so IN the story and I still can’t get out of it, even after Sakura died and the movie ended. I cried shameless tears watching this because I know that one day, this could happen to anyone, whether they are in the perspective of Sakura or Haruki. Either way, it’s gonna hurt for both ends of the string and it’s a reality you just can’t escape from. I Want to Eat your Pancreas is something that I will live with for almost forever, I’m sure. It’s a masterpiece that I can’t seem to stop thinking about and is probably the first thing I think of when someone asks me “what’s your favorite movie” I mourned for Sakura though I don’t know her, that’s how well these characters were made to make the story seem real, to make us watchers feel as we know them in person. Haruki, I hope you had fun with Sakura. Sakura, I hope in the afterlife you still remember the introverted boy you made become your friend. May Haruki and Sakura live in our hearts just as she wanted to have her soul live in him.

I agree, at first after watching this movie I felt really emotional but it didn’t hit me quite like Silent Voice did. But a couple hours later when I was thinking about the movie it hit so much harder and now 3 days later I can say it’s surely just as emotional as A Silent Voice. Both beautiful films.

GIANT HINT IN THE MOVIE: The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry was the book Sakura lent to Haruki. IF YOU READ IT (I DID) YOU WILL FIND CRITICAL HINTS AND REFERENCES THROUGHOUT THE MOVIE, *THE ENDING IS LITERALLY A LITTLE PRINCE REFERENCE!!!* Sakura was like the little prince, and Haruki is the aviator. She is the rose, who became special to him, Haruki is like the fox and each day he allows Sakura to get closer to him, and eventually, Sakura "tames" the fox which is, Haruki. And because he was tamed by her, he began to need her. At the end, the little prince dies, just as Sakura dies. The little prince died by the bite of a snake, Sakura died by the stab of a knife. Haruki... well... just like the aviator, he will always remember her, the "little prince" who tamed his fox heart. the "rose", who was one of the millions of other identical roses in the world, become his only one. 9.5/10 movie, would recommend.

i have probably watched this movie 2 or 3 times. i loved it and it makes me sad everytime. it actually reminds me of my former classmate and my grandma who both passed away. my classmate was very young, we were like 14 or 15 y/o when she left, she was a cheerful girl who always had a great laugh. she was such a nice person, very positive until i found out through text that she passed away and at that time, i was sick and i had to go to the hospital. my grandma on the other hand, suffered from lung cancer for nearly 3 years. she was in and out of the hospital until she finally never came back there and was bedridden at home. she often had attacks, near death experiences, but lived through it until she passed away in 2019, in her sleep. i was regretful for not being by her side all the time. she always tells us to come visit her in which we did but i think we were too late. i miss her smiles and hugs. sorry if this became very personal, basically just love the people around you while we are still alive. we never know what might happen in the future. we love getting emotional and personal through anime, its nice that art touches people in a lot of ways.

Something that makes the plot twist even sadder (spoilers) She was terrified of dying, and she didn’t die quickly when she got stabbed, she died later in the hospital, she probably knew they couldn’t save her so she was just stuck in pure terror because she wasn’t ready yet, she still had plans and stuff

I find very slight comfort in the fact that she addressed a sudden death in one of their first conversations. She says she wants to do normal things because the days all have the same length. We're all going to die one day, yet we don't rush to do everything we want to as soon as possible (at least, not all people). Hopefully she just remembered all the good memories she had already made (especially during the fireworks) before she went.

10:10 - 10:58 ''the death of a loved one, is never an easy thing to face and everyone precesses it differently. sometimes you hear the news, or you're standing there at the funeral and it hasn't properly hit you yet. you logically know they're not there anymore but it still feels like some ethereal dream you're going to wake up from and everthing os going to be as it was but, there will be a point when the gravity of the reality truly hits you Maybe it's seeing their empty room for the first time, randomly getting a whiff of the scent they used to have or feeling the grooves on the couch they used to sit on, and knowing, you'll never see them sit in that same spot ever again, sometimes it's not until that moment of crushing realization that your're able to truly aprreciate how deep a footprint that person was able to leave on your own life'' all that hit me in a way i didnt expected like 9yrs ago my mom was diagnosed with cancer, and i did what i thougt was logic, started to live with the idea of that in some point in the future i maybe will not see my mother ever again, during all the process of chemo and several surgeries i never went to the hospital i always stayed at home powerless waiting in a corner, waiting for THAT call from my sister, brother or father, that call never actually happen, what i did was to go and search for her medication, a 4hr trip total, for like 7 years until it was not longer necessary, she was fine and dont need it anylonger and that particular part of the script make me remember all of what i set up in my head, and realize that it was useless because no matter what nothing will ever prepare you to not seeing anymore the MOST close relative that most of us will ever had and then cry, a lot, while writing this

I cried more times than in any other movie. When he was thinking about sending a message I knew but that twist made it hurt way more. This movie was so well written.

When he sent that message, it was as though someone had punched me in the gut. The feeling of despair rushed in and I realized "Crap, this is it. Now all that's left is how, where, and what he does to move on"

this reminds me of when I left highschool. I wasn't very upset, but after a couple of months I started realising I'll never see any of my high school friends ever again and it really broke me
