The fact that Sega started making Dreamcasts as a promo item for companies that really had little to do with gaming in general just shows how screwed Sega was in the console market at that time. No wonder the Dreamcast was their last one. I know there's a lot of other reasons for Segas demise, but at the same time damn. :/

Limp Bizkit had some sort of promotion with Sega and there was an ad for the online service that had Fred Durst and was like "If you ever get your ass kicked, it was me on the other end of the line." So I suppose that can be official enough.

That last Dreamcast looks like a case swap. During the last year of the Dreamcasts life there were alternate cases available in several colors. I believe there might still be a few floating around. The idea was you would take your internals, swap them into the new case, and if you wanted too add LEDs or stickers for a custom look.

9:22 This era of mobile gaming is actually very interesting. You could even earn a Dreamcast from it at the time but right now it is the abandonedest of the abandonware. Nobody cared for some reason. I sometimes wish one day, some people from telecommunication companies just find all these games sitting on a disk or something in somewhere and release them on the internet.

There probably is a private software collection somewhere. Found loads of supposedly never backed up backups on private servers and what not. Granted these mobile games weren't particularly easy to back up and also weren't particularly popular. You see the same with a lot of unpopular platforms and platforms that had only regional releases. PC98 for example is also poorly backed up even though it was a really popular platform, but only released in Japan aside from a single attempt at bringing it to the US in an early iteration and failing miserabel. Same with a lot of 70's and early 80's consoles that never left Europe.

I think the issue with them is they're basically a genre defined by shovelware. No one at the time thought they were of much value, they were basically the precursor to smartphone app games before they became more microtransaction than game, basically just small little derivative minigames you could play to pass the time on a commute. Some have been saved, I remember in a rebeltaxi video he showed some dexter's lab themed mobile games from that era, but most probably aren't worth preserving.

Alot of Sega's old websites and servers still work to this day. Sega is one of the very few companies that doesn't turn off it's old servers. But idk about old third party stuff. And mobile gaming wasn't as big as it should be. They didn't wanna put a whole lot of effort in solo gaming cause back then consoles were made to bring families together.

I remember going to a Limp Bizkit concert 22? years ago (Godsmack and DMX were also there. 🤘) and for some reason, they hyped the hell out of Ultimate Fighting Championship for the Dreamcast right before Limp Bizkit came on. Being a Dreamcast fanatic at the time (still am really) I found this to be the highlight of the evening seeing as how the only group I liked was Godsmack. Anyway, word on the street was that Limp Bizkit had a habit of putting on poor performances and walking off. Which I thought it was people making stuff up. And I'll be damned if Fred Durst threw a fit and quit the set like 4 songs in and nearly started a riot. Guess people weren't mangling each other in the mosh pit enough for his liking. lol. Now I'm nearly 40. Getting old is fun.

in 1999 the console really was ahead of it's time. What killed it was the Mil-CD exploit making the games super easy to pirate and the fact a lot of the general public was holding off and buying the PS2 because it had integrated DVD playback and back then DVD's were HUGE!

the controller board was probably fine it was probably just a blown fuse that needed to be replaced. The original dreamcast didn't have a resettable and it commonly blew if you unplugged and plugged controllers in with the console powered on. Nowadays you can mod and replace it with a resettable fuse that is a huge quality of life improvement.

I used to harass my parents and grandparents to go shopping at Toys R Us just so that I could play on the Dreamcast display they had there. They had four consoles set up in a circle around a table with big CRT's hanging from the ceiling for each console and sometimes they even had a four-player game with all the consoles connected together. It was pretty sweet. I just liked playing Sonic. It's also the place where I got my crystal clear DMG Gameboy starter kit for Christmas, and then where I got Pokemon Red for another Christmas... Good times

I miss my Dreamcast. Back in the day I had the mouse, keyboard, and was signed up with the internet service through the console. Kinda cool.

10:11 - It's *probably* supposed to be Mobile Suit Gundam themed, as a tie-in to the Federation vs. Zeon arcade game whose home port originally came out first on the DC, but it lacks any sort of labeling to indicate such. No Gundam head decal, no Earth Federation logo, just a Dreamcast in Gundam colors.

Wish I never sold my Dreamcast & pawned my games for $50... The machine stopped working one day & this was teenage me, pre-internet & being able to fix devices.

My guy is tired But dang there’s a lot of dreamcasts, if I was a Dreamcast collector idk which one I would even want, I feel like the ammount of options almost makes them less rare like “oh it’s just another limited edition Dreamcast”

Black actually looks great on DC and makes so much sense, but does somehow seem less early-2000s-y.

Fun fact: Irimajiri was a huge figure at Honda Motor. He is the most responsible for Honda's success in the United States. When he returned to Honda Japan after a long time in the United States, he felt disillusioned, and eventually went over to Sega.

Please do one of these types of videos about the N64, I know there were a tonne of special edition variants of it as well as special edition controllers and accessories, so it'd make for a very interesting video

I got the Sega Sports edition. Found it in the trash. Someone was throwing out their collection. Sadly, if there were any games/controllers/other accessories they tossed prior, the garbage trucks came RIGHT before they dropped off all their consoles at the public bin.
