Killing Words. Epic. Geoff's style is .....I guess his own. Not a lot you can say about it. He has that knack to know when to go low, middle, or high. I think most other singers on the planet would have had no idea how to sing Silent Lucidity, but he made it magical. Watch the Professor of Rocks video from a couple days ago on it.

Geoff's vocals are like no others -- he's got complete control over every note, and even when he's unleashing the full power of his voice, he's not "screaming", he's delivering NOTES. Gorgeous tone ! And, yes, he's a bit theatrical, which I love because he's able to put so much nuance and feeling into each song but at the same time it sounds effortless and organic. Never stiff or forced. For me, no one comes close to him!

Geoff Tate, Mike Patton & Rob Halford. Best ever. I was at QueensRyches FIRST live show ever. In Portland, Oregon. I believe it was a $1.92 to get in. It was sponsored by 92.3 FM KGON. I believe it was 83, may have been 82. Another cool fact. Bruce Dickinson was known to wear a KGON tshirt alot. Nobody on this Earth was a bigger fan of Tate & QR than me, EVER. On the Rage for Order tour he pulled up to the Memorial Coliseum in Portland in a 2 door Toyota Celica with his girlfriend. I saw him & literally jumped through the drivers side window, ( it was down. ) Don't know why I did that lol. Just couldn't believe Geoff Tate was in front of me & I lost it. Saw & met him & the others many times after that. Sad to say, they lost me after, Promised Land. DeGarmo split & the new music wasn't the same. I will always owe a huge part of my musical career to Tate, DeGarmo, QR & Mike Patton as well.

I love Geoff Tate in Queensryche, I had only heard the first 2 albumn's (CD's) MAYBE some songs on the 3rd CD. IF MYTH was a band Geoff was in BEFORE Queensryche, I never heard them before. I had the first 2 albumns back in the 80's BUT, sadly they fell victim to the great 80's "albumn burnings". Yes, My parents and I went to church regularly, and, back then "devil worship" BS was all the rage. I was about 13-14 years old then,so, my parents and the church we went to were saying all this mumbo jumbo about heavy metal bands being "devils music",so, I lost many great metal albumns. My Iron Maiden, Dio, Ozzy, Black Sabbath, Queensryche well, you get it, all my good metal, all were surrendered to burn. ANYWAY, I loved this video, when I saw it was 14 minutes plus, I was wondering IF I'd get bored, BUT, even though you posted snippets of the same song a few times, I remained interested through the whole video,so, I loved it. I am wondering WHY did Degarmo quit QR? Is it because Geoff is NO LONGER the vocalist? Did he pass away? I am thinking he just quit, BUT, DID he die?

DeGarmo had accomplished everything he had ever wanted to in music so he left it behind, mostly. He is still friends with his former band mates and has collaborated writing a few songs. He's also worked with other acts and is mentoring his daughter in music. His gig these days is as a private pilot. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_DeGarmo

The reason I ask is that I'm in a debate, with my Son, who believes he knows everything. I tried to tell him, that Geoff once had an amazing 4 octave vocal range. Is this correct? Thank you.

  • 6 жыл бұрын

Well those 4 octaves are throughout his entire career. However, there wasn't a single point where he had a full 4 octave range. It has moved around throughout the years, and counting the earliest and latest releases, it does cover 4 octaves. I guess it depends on how you count the range :)

+Queensrÿche Bootlegs - Ive created them in the studio for various projects over the years so I know what to listen for. You can hear the processed sound of them. From what I understand they were added by the mixing engineer without the band's approval because they weren't there during the mixing process. The band hates the mix of that album.

  • 8 жыл бұрын

I'm sure the processed sound is due to the effect put on the vocal, especially the "computer" voice in NM 156. I wish the band members would transfer their personal casette tapes with the originally intended mix, and then release that - sadly, I doubt it'll ever happen.

Lost most of his high notes after Operation Mindcrime. Altough that factor his low notes matured well in Empire Era. Nowadays he is shadow of his former self. But main factor is he doesn't care sing properly.

  • 8 жыл бұрын

While it's true he didn't go as high on Empire, Promised Land, and Hear in the Now Frontier albums, he was still capable of singing well into the 5th octave, and actually on the '97 tour I'd say his voice recovered its cleaner tone (although deeper due to age). On the '97 tour his live range is pretty much exactly the same as it was on the '88/'89 tour. Check out the video for Walk in the Shadows from Indianapolis, he nails the song (even the F#5 after the guitar solo!) kzread.info/dash/bejne/Za6KrK2ukq7UnZM.html - and his tone is better than the '88/'89 versions (that also feature the F#5). I partly agree with Daniel. Tate sounds good on most of the songs during his current North American tour.
