The extension plastic in the front was originally for the reciever and a 4 cell battery pack went towards the back and the battery went across the tub. A 2s 7.4v 1500mah lipo is the ticket. Front bumper is a necessity, it takes next to nothing to bend the front tubes

Your tub , I replaced mine by using an old stop sign , road signs are made of t6 aluminum alloy , they are rated for 200 mile beer hour winds ..plus you can make shock towers , a arms just by laminating them , I've been a modeler builder for 48 years ..ready to run was none existence way back , so I had to use my imagination a lot . I've made some really bullet proof chassis.. I was amazed when you could buy an rtr ..I felt obsolete .

You and the other drivers put on a great show. Those vintage buggies are so cool.

It was blast the few laps I got in before it broke lol. But now I have a year to work out the bugs. I hope you had as much fun out there as I did my friend.

I had one of those way back , it had a manual speed control .. I used a Tyco 9.6 volt battery pack , it was like tossing. A big block in a s-10 ..the run time was really good . Im fairly certain I like manual speed controls better .. because you can isolate the amount of power you put to the motor from the radio ..im currently making my own out of a cordless drill ..18 volt ..the potentiometer is variable speed and the motor is brushed .. it keeps a charge for hours ..instead of minuets at a pop .. plus it onlky cost me about 20 bucks for a motor speed control and battery pack..the bonus is the drill Chuck makes for a great that connection in a boat ..

The receiver goes in the front of the box. Put the bumper on, if you hit anything it destroys the front suspension. Looking at it running you were experiencing the real, original driving experience, never entirely in control. With a loose bouncy bum. I was pretty sure that was due to the springs. Replacing them with coil overs makes a huge difference especially on the back. With the front I had really soft springs with a secondary harder spring to act as a bump stop. There is a guy on eBay paulhumgf who does nice original style coil overs. The rear shocks are always too short for really effective damping, thus the super champ rear end, the best.i upgraded my SS as soon as it came out. Gravel is ok but dust and sand are the most fun.😎 For further improvement get the ball diferential, still available. Stiffening up the chassis helps. Also get hold of some super champ front suspension rods, they are toughened steel and don’t bend so easily. Re the motor not fitting , I seem to remember that they repositioned the screw holes on the front can so that the pegs in the gearbox don’t fit.

Used to do some janky stuff to keep em running back in the day. Twisted wire's together on my Midnight Pumpkin!! I think that was around '88.. Man I'm getting old lol. Good luck at the show buddy, I might be there next year!!

I believe those red shocks are for a kyosho buggy of the same era, or after market for Tamiya,. I used springs from clicker type ink pens in those old style shocks for added support, you can also screw them over the dampener piston to adjust the ride height and it helps soften the bottom out over jumps.

Awesome project I’m currently doing a vintage rough rider on my rc channel. Same issue I have with the shocks. Bought the repair kit for the shocks. 👍 subscribed

Those paddle tires n wheels look alot better than the originals. The net was a great added touch, nice job. Sorry to hear bout all the bad luck on the build, but it turned out nice for wat u had to work with considering the issues u ran into. Good luck in FL, have fun n b safe my friend!

That pretty damn cool, I have a Tamiya plasma edge but I don’t know where to get parts for it so it’s been sitting for a while, I actually rescued it from some tall grass near my house where it had been in the rain and aside from the battery and receiver everything else was in good condition but since then I broke the steering arms and haven’t been able to figure out where to get new ones

I have some original shock parts, motor, as well as front towers and springs. If you want to trade me something for the shock parts to make it original again, hit me up. My next upgrade is the rear ball diff which is being released 03/21, the ones on e-bay are the old design and apparently come loose. (not to mention the ridiculous prices)
