The village at the end of the world 🇦🇿
Follow the stony steel-grey Qudyalchay river upstream out of drab Quba and into the mountains. The buildings become sparser and the mountains loom higher. This was a dirt track until it was sealed for a presidential visit in 2006. Follow it until the road runs out. There lies the village of Khinalug and the speakers of its eponymous language isolate. The colossal glowing south wall of Mount Shahdagh presides over it as a witness to the ancient rhythms of life in this lonely outpost, where, save for a few obvious signs of modernity like 4x4s and phone lines, life seems to proceed much as it has for centuries. Join me on a quest to Azerbaijan's highest and most isolated mountain village to find out what language they speak at the end of the world.

I saw you in Hasan's stream & being someone who LOVES travel videos, learning languages, seeing different cultures, & has a strong interest in geography, geopolitcs/politics, & cultural anthropology I'm definitely subscribing with the "all" notification bell. You sort of remind me of Indigo Traveller in terms of editing meets Bald & Bankrupt in terms of going to remote/widely unheard of locations the way you make videos. Keep up the great work!

At 19:50 when he asked how strong is the drink, the guy answered in Azerbaijani 60. He asked in English 50? The guy said yes. Lol
@JosephMorganYT

Haha it sure felt stronger than 50! I remember that he held up five fingers so I guessed 50%. Thanks for the translation.

Nice sharing. Great job. It looks nice😊.Godbless sub
Bloody brilliant mate, as an Azerbaijani meself, this video was indeed very informative, oh and it was 60% on the moonshine/samogon not the 50% (dude said "Altmış" which is sixty in Azerbaijani). I can also provide translations if you ever need some, just DM me. I wonder if you ever recovered from that drink :D

28:19 Armenian language has also 3 letters of K, Kh, K' as well T, Th, Td, and G, Gh, And, P, Ph, etc . ....
@JosephMorganYT
Жыл бұрын
Thanks for this info :) it looks like the Armenian letter transliterated as k’ is merely aspirated rather than ejective as in Khinalug language, but there could be some allophony. Interesting stuff anyway
