Bittersweet is cynical, but this one has the Holy Spirit's love, forgiveness, insight, mercy and truth in it. He visits artists and raises them into transcendant mode, whether they know or not.

90's nostalgia, like frozen in the past, difficult to explain with words but I'm sure many others know exactly what I mean, I'd like to go back and relive those emotions, very sad those feelings won't come back again x

Yes yes! Like me i suffer from anxiety and i am a very serious/quiet person sometimes and my parents think that it's because i don't appreciate them but honestly i love everything i appreciate everything in my life and i am so thankful for what i have. it's so hard to show it because of my anxiety but when i have those moments where i feel good all of the sudden i just express all the happiness bottled up in me. but I'm getting better and this music is helping. thank you for bringing this up it helped me open up.

Tengo 26 años y me encanta la música de esta banda... ya nada es como antes. Ni siquiera los artistas de la actualidad.
Growing up in Canada, this is the video I remember being played here. I still remember it on the MuchMusic countdown. This song is so deep and relatable and means so much more listening to it as an adult but I've loved this song since I first heard it at 16
Still give me chills. They had two of the greatest songs of the modern era. Bittersweet and this. So much soul and reality in the lyrics...

Bittersweet was at least partly licensed (and famed for the label SUED for allegedly exceeding the license) from a Stones song. The opening part of the music from this song is "Lay, Lady, Lay" by Dylan with some extra guitar work (hopefully Bob's song was licensed or credited). I'm NOT impressed with the originality of "The Verve".

Memories of France '98 as this was used as the intro to England v. Tunisia. That was a great World Cup aside from Gazza not being in the team. Best players: Shearer, Owen, Scholes and Anderton. The Verve were brilliant thanks to Richard Ashcroft's excellent songwriting.

This is music..
'Happiness, more or less, is just a change in me, something in my liberty. Happiness, coming and going...' This remains one of my favorite modern rock groups. Refreshing to come back to this so often. Especially when we have a music industry where what constitutes rock music is very distorted, simplistic chordal progressions. Not to mention the 'indie' trend, which has really worn out its welcome...I don't consider these guys hipsters: their brand of rock is of a more atmospheric, ambient flavor; Ashcroft's vocals are folksy, unpretentious. They my have been the influence for these modern, cutesy indie acts you see popping up these days, but what they were doing at the time was novel and not geared towards a fad. True innovators with profound existential messages for those who really listen.
Wat a absolute fucking classic from bk in the day ... fucking great tune .....

Richard, The Verve, and the song itself are just the CONDUIT for the healing (which of course I feel too) ... which is not to take anything away from the band at all. But the mediation is by the Holy Spirit, and the healing comes from God. Who else? May God bless you and be with you, Helenka.

@@helenkahajossyova298 I have been discussing spirituality on KZread all the time, since being Born Again on 28-2-21 in a really remarkable and wonderful event that happened to me. I believe it is the means of communication the Holy Spirit wants me to use! I did not do such things before, but happily I am now changed, and it is a key part of my new life. Although I am really quite a busy man, I always feel secure in the idea that, when I am writing to people about Father, Son and Holy Spirit, it is the best possible use of my time, energy and talent. I like feeling convinced in that way, as everything else seems uncertain now.

Yeah I know what you mean..but if we look for a good spiritual path, we can go back very easily to that eagerness (no ipnosis, no drugs, no dogmas or things to believe...), we have only to cancel the bad side of our experience, not the memories, but the bad side. And then we can get in contact with the true side of ourself again...with a lot of happiness as a stable emotion! I did it ;-)

An anthem for all those who seek the true path of self betterment.
Years ago I was absent from the previous world of my memories, confusional state and spiritual transport, even the music seemed far away in the mists of time .. But then after a long time I found my 12 string in a basement .. and after having restored it being a little girl of the 70s .. she repaid me with a wonderful sound that brought me back to my adolescence ... and I immediately played these 4 chords as in ecstasy .. as a distant memory of my memory, ... and it was this wonderful story..Lucky Man..I got excited..but I didn't remember who wrote it..and looking on you tube..your sound finally appeared..Richard..and since then I always play almost every day .. to thank our mother Maria Madonna and pray to never forget these words that you have played and they are making me remember and help me to continue living .. and I pray to God that they help other brothers in the world .. But this is another story .. My .. thanks Richard !!
