There's nothing wrong with projecting emotion and intention onto inanimate objects, especially if those objects are designed to appear to really have those emotions and intentions. That said, the fact that it was necessary to make friendly vending machines at all is a pretty stark indictment of the hustle grindset in Japan. As if it even needs to be said: "That's capitalism, baby."
