The USS Lexington CV-16 Museum Ship

What do you do when the wind is blowing sand everywhere and you can't play on the beach. You go to an aircraft carrier museum of course! We spent the day climbing through passages and experiencing what the sailors aboard the USS Lexington experienced in their everyday life as well as learned some really interesting facts about the ship. If you are ever in Corpus Christi, TX, this is a definite 5 star experience!
A special thanks to Wolf Rigs USA, Reed and Jenn for taking Mike on this adventure!

About Us:
Hi! We're Mike & Kerry, the proud owners of a 1992 Bluebird rear engine (pusher), 40' school bus! We named her Bussy McBusface in honor of the RRS Boaty McBoatface travesty!
We built a Tiny-Home-in-a-Bus for full-time living in the most adventure-friendly way possible. Bussy was never meant to be parked in a driveway, waiting for weekend trips or holiday getaways. After we finished the build, we packed everything we kept into the bus and drove away from our old house and into the world of off-grid living, aka boondocking, and endless travel adventures!
Since we planned to be boondocking the majority of the time, we made choices such as; a 100-gallon water tank, an Air Head composting toilet, a 1500w solar power system with 1000Ah in AGM batteries, etc. We'd love to have you stick around and follow us on our journey, from our Skoolie Build Series, to infinite buslife adventures beyond!
Mike & Kerry

What a great video Mike, my oldest brother, RIP, served on the USS Hornet until it was de-commissioned in 69' it has been opened as a museum in Alameda, Ca. since 1998. I have had the honor of touring it since I live in Sacramento. It was so awesome to walk the same decks and stairs that my long past brother tred on for seven years. He was going to make a career of the Navy until he was injured in Spain and said it was not for him. These ships hold a lot of history and are a valuable resource for our education. Thank you for sharing your tour of the Lexington.

Its a very cool museum. When we were there, prior to covid , kids groups would come and stay on the Lexington overnight. There was a group boarding as we toured the ship.

This video made me feel old. I served in the USN back in 1989 to 1991 on board the USS Carl Vinson CVN-70. I saw three or four aircraft on the flight deck that I handled as an ABH (Aviation boatswain's mate) blue Shirt, Aircraft handler, V-1. I sure do miss it.

Very cool Mike thanks for reminding us that freedom is something that we're born with but something we are taught something we hold dear to our hearts and something we are willing to die for to preserve that freedom for generations to come. God bless America and the many who paid that price for our freedom.

My husband, who is now 75 yrs old, was a Navy pilot from 1974- 1978. When he was going through jet training to earn his wings of gold, he had to land an A-4 Skyhawk on a carrier. You guessed it, he passed his qualification on the Lexington in 1975. He went on to fly A-7 Corsairs (Bomber) in VA-46 on the USS Kennedy for two years. He was, and still is, an officer and a gentleman. 🙂
