The Uriezzo Canyon (Orrido di Uriezzo) and Potholes of the Giants - ITALY

As always, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the friendship and affection you always show me through your visits and comments.
With this video I take you with me to discover two very special places of great importance and particularity from a geological and morphological point of view, located in the Piedmont Region, in Northern Italy.
These are two splendid natural wonders one next to the other, which have in common their same geological formation and which surely will amaze you.
They are located precisely in the beautiful Valle Antigorio, an alpine valley not far from Switzerland where the rugged and mountainous landscape is absolutely priceless.
Here we find the Canyon of Uriezzo (Orrido di Uriezzo) and the so-called Potholes of the Giants of Maiesso (Marmitte dei Giganti), which I will take you to visit.
This valley hosted the Toce Glacier, an imposing and massive expanse that fed an articulated complex of streams and waterways that over the millennia have operated a continuous erosion of the rock leaving, following the retreat of the glacier, impressive gorges which today can be covered on foot.
Those we know today with the name of Canyon di Uriezzo.
There are 3 canyons, but I visited the South Canyon, the most important and spectacular, as well as the longest, with its 200 m and up to 30 m deep.
The Canyon is made up of very narrow cavities, tunnels and fissures that alternate, in a continuous visual suggestion, with enormous "rooms" connected with passages that are often extremely tortuous and narrow.
In some moments the darkness is almost total and the sun really struggles to make its way, while in the rooms, much more open, the light penetrates giving incredible glimpses of colors and shades of the rock.
The grooves produced by the swirling and circular motion of the water are also clearly visible, which has eroded the rock almost like the hands of a sculptor.
The particular conditions of humidity and low light have allowed the formation of a complex and varied ecosystem made up of mosses, lichens, ferns and other species that have found an almost perfect habitat here.
Walking in the bed formed as a result of the erosion produced by the retreat of the glacier and being able to admire what the violent action of the water has operated in the rock over the course of the millennia really leaves you breathless.
The second natural wonder that I take you to visit is that of the Potholes of the Giants of Maiesso.
After the visit to the South Canyon, which ends with the view of a small, unexpected waterfall, we take a short uphill walk in the middle of nature, to finally reach this other extraordinary creation of nature.
Precisely in this particular area, the erosion operated by the power of the meltwater of the glacier, has even engraved the first part of the rock layer bringing to light the one below, white and microcrystalline, called "Element Zero", that is the tectonic element deepest known in the Alps.
An aspect of enormous geological importance.
And the Potholes of the Giants are just part of this evolution process.
The Potholes, already visible from the iron bridge of Maiesso, are made up of impressive cylindrical or hemispherical cavities in which the Toce river still flows impetuously still today.
One is truly fascinated by the spectacle of these white rock formations with incredible shapes, within which pools of crystalline water are also formed.
An absolutely wonderful natural spectacle.
I felt really lucky to have visited these wonderful places, where the work of nature over the millennia has created something absolutely extraordinary.

Hello, my dearest Lou. Here to say Thank you once again for being here and giving me your friendship and warm support. Not an easy moment in my life. I'm away from YT for a while due to my beloved Dad's health. He has been at the hospital for a month and a half and Now he's here at my house with my Mom too. He's feel better but the situation is dufficult. He's 93 and the recovering is not easy. I take care of him in the best possible way with all my heart and my love. My dearest friends! Oh, You don't know how happy you make me with your comment and your words! You know how much I care about your opinion and your appreciation! These two places are truly wonderful, impressive and incredibly fascinating. Walking inside the Canyon was a very exciting experience. In some moments it was so dark that I was afraid you wouldn't see anything! A unique experience, really! And then get to the Potholes ... An explosion of almost blinding white in certain points and the intense blue of the river that rushed through them ... Magic!
