The Unwritten Rules of Dead by Daylight

Ойындар

Hey everyone, today we’re discussing the unwritten rules of Dead by Daylight. The rules that exist collectively across the player base but are not present in writing or by direct statement in game. Player made rules that people will respect.
At the time of this video's release Chapter 32 has been released - Dungeons & Dragons! The new killer is Vecna, the Survivor is a group of Bards with an elf and a human member. We also got a castle map!

Could we extend that rule to the survivors who lead you directly to another survivor via pointing and waving? I hate being lead to other survivors to hook em, half the fun in the game is hunting them.

I do this in matches where the first survivor hooked dies on the first hook because they just want out of the match. I will take the remaining hook stages and then let the three other survivors fix the gens and leave. The leading the killer to others by pointing I classify into sandbagging and it usually means the one who does it dies.

Another one is: Don't take your frustrations out on the next game. The Wraith who bled you out for four minutes isn't the same person as the Bubba you get in the next game, and has no idea what he did. The Nea who teabagged and clicked his flashlight at you isn't the same person as the Meg in the next game, and has no idea what she did.

As a Dredge main, I have one small rule of my own: If I'm hooking a surviours (or getting totally steamrolled) - then I'm getting into a locker by pressing Ctrl so the surviours could see this. And staying there for the rest of a match if I was destroyed during it and the exit gates are open with no chance on more hooks. Getting into a lockers by dredge manually is a rare thing (cause... there is no reason for that) so it's either looks like "Well, that's it, I don't want to play with you anymore" gesture or (as I hope) just slightly lifts the mood of the guy I've just hooked.

There is a good reason to get into locker as a Dredge, a very clever form of camping near a hook. Now you can't tp into those lockers, but you can still manually enter them. It's actually pretty good and I think unexpected. I'd just recommend to not tunnel afterwards and go for the unhooking person, it's a bit toxic tactic either way. Anyone got good rules for an 8-hook killer? I usually treat my role as a killer main like I'm the game's DM and that my job is to keep it fun, entertaining and engaging for everyone, but no one likes dying (ok, maybe a mori if they're TTV, because their viewers might get a kick out of it) My rules: 1. Count hook stages so I don't death hook someone on accident. Use icons on left to see which survivor it was if you're not sure. 2. Don't hook the same survivor twice in a row. Only exception is if they try to endurance-block, because they want attention and are not on death-hook. 3. If two survivors are present, chase the one with less hook progress. 4. "Warn" death-hook survivors that you're coming by using a non-damaging or missed projectile (if applicable to killer. Unknown, Trickster and Cenobite are especially great for this). 5. Window whiff or get pallette stunned by death-hook survivors. 6. Use perks that give lots of map info or aura to help track survivors and keep them from getting complacent while also helping you avoid them if they seem to need a break.

Hey, I do the same! Trying to make it more entertaining than a sweat fest. Additionally, my favorite thing to do lately is go undetectable, then break down a door where I know survivors are on the other side. Even if it's less advantageous for securing a hit and opens a path for the survivors to use now, it feels so cinematic and in character, and hopefully more thrilling for the survivors to get a jump scare.

I have a few unwritten rules for both sides. Survivor: 1) If the killer is camping on EG, and I'm on death hook and injured, I'm not saving the hooked until I'm healthy. 2) If I'm in chase and I see someone on a Gen nearby, I try to stir away the killer from that gen so that it can be completed. Killer: 1) If one person DCs, the bot gets tunneled out of the game. 2) If at least one person DCs, and I play well enough that only one survivor remains, last survivor gets hatch. 3) If you bring a flashlight, expect me to be harsher with you (I've been at the end of a bully squad before, and I have no respect for those)

Good rules. Can't tell you how many times a survivor has brought a killer to my gen, right when it's nearing completion too. (Can't always help it I know, and I have done the same accidently, but a great rule non the less.) And I too will often hard target a flashlight user, depending on the circumstance. If they are just trying to situationally save a teammate, that's fair. But if they are trying to follow me the entire game to ensure I never carry a single person ever, they have a metaphorical neon sign on them saying "target me," and I do.

But I like the challenge so whenever I see a ttv especially a toxic one I will sometimes even throw the game to kill them because I enjoy showing tryhard ttvs and their audience that they aren't as good as they think so the never tunnel a ttv rule is actually a always tunnel a ttv in my games

My unwritten rules: You may tunnel: Tea baggers, sand baggers and bots. If a player manages a near impossible play (ex: Drops a palette in a way that holes you, after having dropped a flashbang in the hole so it blinds you) let them reset. If a fellow survivor does something stupid, you also stare at them in disbelief. If a ghostface or pig crouches at you repeatedly, crouch back. You are now best friends. If you are a ghostface or pig, and a survivor drops everything they are doing just to crouch at you- You must release them, or even decide to bloodpoint farm instead of playing normally. You are now best friends. If you are myers, you must first chase laurie. If you are wesker or nemesis, you must chase Ada, Leon, Rebecca, or Chris. If you are pyramid head, you must chase cheryl. Etc. And lastly, if a survivor I slugged and left (I commonly do this when a survivor is stupid, gets sandbagged, gets map fucked, or anything else I take pity on) is left on the ground to die, I pick them up, let them wiggle off, and tunnel all other remaining survivors for being jerks.

Been seeing a lot more Leather Face campers and nurses forcing the map to be the Silent Hill school too just for an easy win. But there's nothing stopping them from doing it, and it's the risk you take when playing with people on the internet. Run into a lot of the selfish a-holes. I try my best to be the opposite of that as Killer, sparring at least 2, if not all 4 survivors during this event, especially if I see the event offering used. Even if there no TTV I'm just playing nice but fun for me and trying not to tunnel or camp, but that "nice guy" Mentality can be wiped out if you try boring strategies (like that one with boil over) or if it's a bully squad😊

I disagree with the cosmetic rule. It's super annoying from the killers perspective, because you have no idea who you are after until the chase started. Strategic decisions sometimes need to be make based on the whereabout of each survivor.

I'm going to push back a bit against the rule that if someone with endurance takes a hit then it's okay to tunnel them. Overall, I agree BUT one caveat: if you've JUST been unhooked by an injured teammate and the killer goes for them before you can even move away from the hook or try to heal, it's just polite to try to take the protection hit for them.

"Stop wiggling if the killer swings" has the same energy as "Congratulations! You are being rescued! Please do not resist" If I'm the killer and I'm carrying the last survivor to the hatch, I will show my intentions and I just want them to be carried there without struggle. If the survivor is stubborn enough to not stop wiggling a single second while I'm carrying them to the hatch, I'm just going to hook or mori them. I'm trying to save you and you still see me as the bad guy here, such disrespect.

I find it funny how there's so many "rules" that involve the killer sparing a survivor or being friendly and stuff like that, but there are none that involve the survivors giving the killer a kill at the end if he had a horrible match and got absolutly destroyed by a bad map, meta builds and items on survivors, and its mostly because of that that I never give survivors hatch, regardless of anything, because I know damn well that that same survivor would teebag me to death at the exit gates if I was the one that had a bad match

the "stop wiggling if they swing" one is so bullshit imo, every time a killer has swung or shaken their head to tell me to stop wiggling and i stop, they take the free hook and betray the trust. 90% of killers who do the shake/swing are doing it to trick you into giving them the hook or doing it to bm

Good rules about giving nods to other players, but there's also something especially fun about switching between fast nods and slow head shakes "no" between other players. Also, sometimes if my team all spawned around a fire barrel, we start the match having a fire barrel ritual of some kind until the killer shows up. (Crouching and/or pointing at it, everyone walks around in a circle, playing the Lute, etc.) Oh, and if you're on a map with stalls or store fronts and its a 1v1, I always play customer and clerk (E.g. Ormond, Knight's Map) if the other person seems like a good sport about the match. Just these small things to boost spirits when some matches can feel so harsh.

So I play a lot of hyper focused builds, but when I play killer and my lobby starts giving up, I chill with a less aggressive approach. No one likes to be snowballed, and as a killer you can tell when your lobby isn’t having fun.

My unwritten survivor rule: If I accidentally let a survivor reach second stage while on their first hook, I will protect them with my life until the next time I get hooked My killer rule: If the last survivor is healthy, and I find the hatch first, I wait beside the hatch, and when they approach it, I hit them and then let them escape through it.
