    Sony was growing into other markets. They started to enter the movie and music (label) industry. Nintendo felt that Sony would take over Nintendo and absorb them into Sony. That's why. Not this rehashed myth.

    That was a really fun watch my friend. I never knew until much later that Nintendo and Sony had made any deal of this sort so I don't remember the great betrayal that was Nintendo's 11th Hour coup de gras but I definitely remember the launch of the Playstation. What a great time that was! You had the emergence of 3d with SEGA Saturn and then there was the new kid on the block Sonys Playstation (then Nintendo 64 later) it was a true evolution happening right befor our eyes.

    @@TheObsessiveGamer It is to bad, isn't it? Idk I mean as time goes on of course graphical fidelity continues to reach new heights, but I really don't think (even with and advent of virtual reality ) that we will ever see the likes of another revolution quite like what happened in the mid to late 90s. What do I know though lol only time will tell what magic we might witness in the coming decades.

Do elusive that ben heck figures he found a retirement investment that ended up underperforming. This is why seeing smb sealed carts selling for a million bucks pisses me off to this day. There was never going to be a "Nintendo PlayStation". The PlayStation was always going to be a Sony product. Look at the prototype. Do you see a Nintendo logo anywhere on it? This myth that Nintendo "created" their greatest rival is just that. A myth. Once Sony decided they wanted to get into the video game industry, they became Nintendo's greatest rival, because they were willing to do anything (including lose money for well over a decade) to succeed. Nintendo very wisely extricated themselves from a deal that would have seen them become, essentially, a second party working for Sony and the entire industry would have been worse off for it.

  • @TheObsessiveGamer

    @TheObsessiveGamer

    2 ай бұрын

    Course it wasn't going to be called that, it's just a fan name to refer to the collaboration. However it was still a collaboration between the two, thus they both had a stake in it and share. It required the SNES to run afterall. So yes they still did create their greatest rival with that betrayal, but as you stated it still could have happened anyways if Sony built themselves up using this and went independent after. Basically Yamauchi's worry. Eitherways they may have been damned if they did, damned if they didn't
