Not ALL Black people drink Hennessy. Just a pseudo-culture marketing scheme to me. On the rare occasions I do drink, I limit myself to a couple of beers or wine with a meal and good company.

Black people like cognac, especially certain brands, simply because it was heavily marketed in the black community. Like many Americans, we are susceptible to marketing of products that are meant to imply status. And possibly we are just a little bit more susceptible to status marketing

Its interesting how a lot of us did that in our younger days now we only drink the scotches. Although I agree with you that I like it more, but wonder if that is just because what we are marketed to drink at this age and time of our lives (older more money etc).
If Black people had stock in Hennessy maybe this information would be more worthy of a standing ovation! Better yet, it would be worth applauds if we were supporting our own multibillion dollar liquor corporations. What a sobering thought.😒

My dad worked with a lot of African Americans. He loved going on cruises and when he told his coworkers they always asked him to buy bottles of White Hennessey. All they told us was it wasn't sold stateside (which is true) -so we never knew the history behind it, just thought they wanted it because it was not sold in this country. He always brought back whatever the limit for duty free purchases was (also probably what you could reasonably carry on your person with luggage and stuff. Interesting to know the reasoning behind it.

I would say it depends on the type of woke. If it's actually awareness, then yeah, more should be. But there is this whole other type of woke. The type that make EVERYTHING about race, or gender, or sexuality, etc. and are hostile about it, treating everybody who doesn't believe exactly like them with contempt. You know the type. These are the type that take offense for others, and then get mad when none was taken by the others. They tend to scold people for not being "woke" enough. I would note that in the 1990's some Black social leaders spoke out about the marketing in Black communities of alcoholic beverages like malt liquor and brandy/cognac as well as menthol flavored tobacco products on billboards and Black media. Some believed it encouraged young people to seek such products to look 'cool'. The protests led to a significant decline in such marketing directed to mainly Black persons.

I can help out with Pepsi. Pepsi heavily marketed towards the African American community relatively early on (I think since the 20s) but it exploded after the coke vs pepsi "wars". Pepsi also used positive characters in their adverts, like black doctors and professionals - so maybe not directly targeted at Black people, but the comparable novelty of black people being shown in a positive light in US marketing, would probably make it seem that way to both black and white people. I think it might also have been slightly cheaper in price too, which may or may not have been a factor - but don't quote me on that. As far as Disney and Twitter, those are popular with every community. Well, except the Amish.

Tupac turned me onto that . I loved it . I was a foool so I don’t know anything. But keep up the good work. It appears that money is behind every campaign. From colas to sneakers. From underwear to overcoats. I just wanted to look cool . While cool people got paid to drink , smoke , wear something and the rest of us just danced to the music. I’d like to know why folks switched from kools to newports ? Suddenly ppl were saying: yo man I don’t want one of them chest busters! Anybody got a Newport? And I swear , within a few weeks from nyc to Detroit , 77 people were now smoking Newport after a joint in the parking lot ! 0:42 absolute nonsense. Even though we export 97% to the states doesn't mean we don't consume cognac. Cognac is a part of our culture and heritage, on Christmas after dinner almost every French family will go for a digestif and usually it's cognac. I mean it's literally the name of a whole region, saying we "rarely" consume it is just false. What's true though is that Americans just over do it, like pretty much everything else.

Here save 7 mins of your life here's the answer as black soldiers fought for the protection of America's democracy in World War II, French communities thanked Black units through the distribution of French cognac as a sign of appreciation, and began Hennessy's role as a trophy in Black culture. Woke is an adjective derived from African-American Vernacular English (AAVE) meaning "alert to racial prejudice and discrimination" YW
Whenever someone say “all”, it’s a turn off because it’s not true.

Cognac is heavily regulated to the point where even cheaper ones will give you a decent product if you go by the age like XO etc. So much of the brand preference comes purely down to marketing, like ads and packaging.
Came from ww2 when black marines was thanked by the french and was given bottles of cognac
This sh.t kills!
Reason - perceived prestige (and hopes this transfers): cognac, Cadillac, Loius Vitton, etc., etc.
Because the rappers said so every time a corporation wants to promote something they use a celebrity rapper or rnb singer and the black people go running.
