    The horizontal representation typically has some other stuff that's not books. Like coloring books will get coloring book and pencil packs or posters. If you're in a kid's niche where will be flash cards and the like.

    Chris!!! I came to give you your flowers because you deserve them. I haven’t been serious with KDP and so I fooled around with it and got lost looking for the best niches. Watching this video, my common sense took over and I paid attention to how you broke down keyword research, I then decided to give it a shot in an “over crowded niche”. I followed your common sense logic and luckily I found a glaring sub niche. I went ahead to fool around on Canva and designed a few catchy covers. I finally had time to upload the books last week and books were live by the weekend. I went ahead to run lottery ads on all 6, and now I have 3 orders on day 2 of my campaign! 😂 my hope is renewed 🤣 Before I gave up I said the only thing that would make me try seriously again is if I get the opportunity to work with you side by side, then I’d give it one last shot. Your last set of videos delivered on that. I’m now looking forward to my KDP adventure!

    I love that you encourage/teach publishers to develop the ability to find their own keywords, rather than to become tool dependent. Tools are great in the sense that they save time & they're a breeze to use. But at the end of the day, we want to understand why certain keywords work and some don't - and to have this understanding requires pairing our researching and decision-making skills. Thanks for the valuable info! :)

    I have noticed that the estimates that keyword tools give for number of searches/month is wildly off, based on the number of impressions I get on exact match manual ads. Half of the benefit of running Amazon ads is actually the data that you get from them. Totally agree with everything you've said here based on my 1 year of dabbling with KDP.

    I can't wait to watch. I just started publishing and decided to throw out advice that i received in kdp courses and just use amazon and my brain for research, and i got a number 1 new release somehow. Sold 44 books so far this month and just started, and it's mostly just a notebook in a very competitive niche (i tried microniche before as recommended and no sales!) Anyway... will watch tomorrow and looking forward to it

    Chris, first of all your videos are the most pragmatic and insightful KDP tutorials there are. Quick question, how long do leave Ad campaigns running before you get a handle on how well they are doing keyword wise? Amazon recommends 2 weeks. What's your experience?

  • @ChrisRaydog

    @ChrisRaydog

    Жыл бұрын

    Thanks! I find it will vary from book to book but the core function of the ad remains the same: the get books ranked. Whether that costs me $5 or $50, the goal is the same. And from there I do what I can to adjust the ads to a point where they are at a slight loss or breakeven. We have to keep in mind, most of us, are selling books between 5.99 and 8.99, for example. So to get a direct profit on these campaigns is mega hard, hence using ads for ranking purposes. So I guess I don't really have a time frame, I just keep monitoring my book ranking positions and making sure my ad spend doesn't go too wild. If that makes sense?

  • @roger4909

    So here’s a question. I started and tried this whole KDP deal. Did about 20-25 books over past 2 months. Some were coloring books rest were kids short stories. One book I did short stories has sold about 27 copies in a few weeks. Now that being said other stuff I did sold none or a copy here and there. I made no money on anything. By the time Amazon took their money for printing and royalties, then cost of advertising. I made nothing. I’m beginning to think this KDP is a joke or maybe Amazon is putting these videos out to get people lured in. I mean who is gaining from this the most? Amazon is, they invest nothing into this. The people working for free being told hey you can make money if you try hard enough. It’s an endless cycle of people making books that don’t sell unless they pay to advertise. Then in end they get nothing for their work and Amazon gets it all. I mean why would people who been successful be online offering advice to competitors on how to do the work etc? It’s like a gold miner hitting the jackpot and running to town telling all the people where the gold is. Just don’t happen. So either Amazon is putting it out there because it’s a goldmine for them to lure people in or the people making these videos are getting something in return. Since making no money on KDP they sell how to’s or make money another way. Idk just seems weird. Anyone else feel this way or is it just me?

For the time being, I believe I will use your method and not spend the $$ for a research tool. One question: when you state to implement the keywords in the book title & subtitle, do you mean the title actually on the live book cover, or the title/subtitle which we type into the KDP wizard ?

It happened to me with auto ads that I don’t receive impression so nether click…in this keyword there is interest, and many books has a good BSR and are using ads. I have used as main keyword the same as others. The ads is active in every section (it is not rejected or paused). I started the launch book with low price as you suggested in your previous ads video. I have use a bid of 0.5$ up & down but nothing happened for many days. 0 impressions. How do you explain that? I would like to ask if you might know why my books in the UK always start selling better than in the US. What I mean is that a new book in UK after 2-7 days will always sell, when in US it happens that it will never sell? I don't understand the mechanisms behind this, for example I had a book that was a best seller in the UK after 2 months in a very competitive niche, when in the US so far I haven't sold a single copy, despite including the same ads etc. I always set the US as the original marketplace, and 75% of my books despite the same actions sell in the UK, 15% in Canada and the rest in single copies in other countries including the US.

  • @ChrisRaydog

    @ChrisRaydog

    Жыл бұрын

    I've had this for a few books too, where the UK outperforms US - but very rarely now. I'm guessing it's much easier to get ranked on the UK store -- so it's possibly a case, if you're in competetive niches, that you're not getting enough sales to get a good ranking in the US? I will think about this further and reply later if any other thoughts come up regarding this though

    It’s almost impossible to make ad’s affordable. You have to be prepared to lose money. If you spend $40 on ad’s and get two sales your Revenue might be $16 but that’s not YOUR profit. Each book might get you $2 net profit so you have in fact spent $40 to earn $4. In the end YOU paid Amazon to help THEM make money. As is pointed out in this video you use ad’s to give your books a boost in sales so that they start ranking organically much quicker. For many months at the start I swore I would not pay Amazon to advertise. But I caved and now see the benefit. Still not making a profit but I will keep going.
