With all cars coming out with larger and larger infotainment screens a feature I’d like to see mentioned would be how easy it is to shutoff the display for night driving. Maybe this is a me only problem but the bright screens are very distracting in certain vehicles and can take 5 button presses to turn it black. Thanks for your great videos.

Decided on a 22 forester convenience for us. Headroom is massive, I am 6'9" and comfortable with extra headroom sitting straight up, and not all the way down on the seat. You guys missed features like steering responsive headlights, the app for the cars comes free for 3 years after which its $75/yr, the lane keep and collision systems are up by the sunroof so people dont turn them off by accident and crash expecting them to be on. The lane keep with active cruise will work to a stop, and in stop and go traffic, its incredible for commuting. Little things like a rearview camera washer, auto highbeams, eyesight that will literally drive for you, and the massive amount of space inside were all winners for us. There are too many companies like kia that are selling on bells and whistles that become dated quickly. Subaru has been and still is a brand that has what you need, and nothing more. Its a great vehicle for canada and is one of the safest vehicles on the road for 2022 in this segment. Oh and ive heard people complain about halogen tail lights, its a little known fact that its used to help keep the taillights clear of snow from the bulbs heat during winter driving. All those LED lights get snow covered quickly with no heat output. Its a smaller brand and segment, and I enjoy that about it. The owners buy them with a purpose in mind, not because of the deals they have going or the one or two fancy features. The biggest thing i noticed is the obvious feel of Japanese quality over cars like Kia/Hyundai, and most domestics like Ford.

Don’t forget insurance cost. I’m going from a 2016 Honda CR-V to a 2022 Forester Wilderness. I’m adding replacement value to my insurance and my premium will increase by only $24/year. My insurance broker said it’s because Subaru are extremely safe. Can’t beat that!

kia has superior tech and interior though buddy.. that's just called stop and go/adaptive cruise control, super basic feature.. also putting them up by the sunroof still doesn't make sense, provide proof about the halogen heat output being a significant difference, that's the biggest load of BS I've heard in a while, completely unfounded dummy.

This is a realistic offroader for many people I think. For those who go camping semi-regularly but you're not trying to break your car on crazy tracks, have a job, family, and lifestyle that means most of the time you are on paved roads. Really wish Subaru would bring this trim down under.

I thought the same also! Make this a signature segment for your channel. Never have I seen anything as dynamic and flowed perfectly.

One of the reasons they specifically mentioned hanging wetsuits was for whitewater kayakers. We may have to drive miles up a dirt road in the wilderness to get to a certain section of river we want to run. When you get back to the car it’s nice to have a place to hang wet gear to drip off a little before putting everything into a bucket or laying it on the rubber cargo liner for the drive home.

We’ve had our Forester Wilderness for about a week and love it! I never thought I’d say a naturally aspirated Subaru would feel quick but the new ratio is awesome! It moves the car with authority. Mind you the car isn’t fast but it responds! Such a nice overall package made in Japan.

Im so glad you mentioned when you're on a phone call it blocks the digital speed lol Its one of my least favorite things on my crosstrek sport. Another horrible thing about it is when you change volume, it covers the entire infotainment for like three seconds.

On my 2021 Outback XT, you press the up or down menu arrows on the steering wheel and the call pop up goes away.

What I like most about Subarus is that it's very easy to see out of them. This really helps and it makes it so even if you don't have a Subaru with a BSM system, there is still barely any blind zones. I have a 2012 Outback without Eyesight but honestly, I found that I don't really need it just because of the ride hight and the windows being quite large and open.

I agree -- I've been driving Foresters for 6 or 7 years. Traded a 2010 for a 2017 a couple of years ago. Also, I don't go offroad but the AWD gives a lot of confidence in any weather I'm likely to drive through.

I don't understand why Subaru's have had excellent visibility for well over 20 years, and American manufacturers STILL can't match that.. I have an 2019 crosstrek, and my mom has a 2018 Ford escape. I feel like I can barely see anything in the rear view mirror of the escape, back window feels smaller (probably is and I'm too lazy to look that up to confirm lol) due to bulkier body design and also the backup camera screen is smaller, farther away from you AND lower resolution.

Driver visibility has been a priority of subaru vehicles since they started making cars. They are not as great about it today but still better than most manufacturers

@@ianholmquist8492 Interesting. My first Forester previously belonged to my mother, who had trouble with her car's visibility and ease of entry/exit. I googled cars for seniors and the Forester came up. She liked it and drove it until she stopped driving, at which point she gave it to me. Fast forward to 2022, and as a newly-minted senior myself I appreciate those same qualities -- so much so that I bought another Forester.

Camera work around cliche corner was a beauty. Keep it up!

4:17 I rented an Impreza for a road trip and discovered that it had lane keep and it was a magical experience. The adaptive cruise control was great through Washington DC traffic because it worked to speeds as slow as 15 miles an hour so I was just steering it lol. But it would disengage after a full stop more than a minute or something. Cruise control would get disabled in inclement weather too because of the sensor thing in the front I'm guessing. Good driving car, handled like my Audi on the roads especially when it got wet out

Once you stop and it disengages you just need to barely tap the accelerator and it will start again

@@Cozmo85 yes i think it did something like that. It was a cool thing to experience. The steering wheel would vibrate and pull you back to the center of the lane and stuff too. I was on a road trip so all that stuff helped. Had paddle shifters but I was trying to save gas and didn't really fiddle with them but they worked

I have a '17 outback and am always changing the adaptive to standard cruise control because the adaptive always seems to gas or break, rarely coasts. Like if the car sees brake lights why does it automatically start braking? I feel likw it should just cut the throttle and brake when needed. I tested adaptive cruise at 60mph highway and got 24mpg and if i controlled the cruise i got 26mpg on same road and similar conditions.

@@Hallowsaw i have a 2019 legacy and seems pretty good at following and doing engine brake before actually applying brakes, mostly measured in stop and go traffic i would say. my wifes old mb glc seemed to read red brake lights for the collision prevention and would beep more when driven aggressively :P but this one seems to read distance more than light in my opinion. have you researched if there is any sort of software update to their system as my car is teh same gen as yours just newer my? now itching to try regular cruise and see the revholding/mpg/etc.

The segment where you proposed subaru build an "all plastic cladding vehicle" had me rolling! 🤣

We’ve had our 23 Forester Wilderness 2 weeks now & love it. It handles very well and quite peppy considering it’s a CVT. We traded in a 14 Rogue (no engine issues with it) and it was not as quick. I’m so glad we went the Subaru way.

Just ordered a 2024 Forester Wilderness edition and selected it over the RAV4 TRD edition because the AWD is more capable. New finance rates in Ontario with Subaru loyalty discount was waaaaaay cheaper than a used RAV4 TRD rate. I watched other videos and the Subaru AWD system beats the RAV4 TRD in some tests. Overall, Forester has best value and better AWD. RAV4 TRD has legendary Toyota reliability. Jeep is crap if you're keeping it long-term, would never drive one. Great videos guys for daily comments. I like this video mixed with actual off road testing sites.

Just want to throw some recognition out there for that sweet 360 one-take. Sometimes when watching KZread videos it’s hard to get a good idea of what the car actually looks like, since many videos are just cut to still frames of a designated angle. This view allowed me to see more precisely all of the angles and get a better idea of what this car would actually look like in person. Props for that effort

Seemed like a really cool way to shoot this car. You both looked comfortable in the car . The performance seemed good for what it is. I like that you covered that it’s a rugged edition with the changes, and I’m convinced they’ll sell but man, they’re expensive. There’s no real comp in that range though . Subaru is still offering the adventure, no surprises here. Great video

Matt Farha has been praising this thing...Seems nice. Love the color. Still think the first gen Forester was the best. Small. Boxy. Wagon-ish. Fun to drive.

@@kimcloud8995 Exactly. It's also worth noting that the Wilderness Outback has the turbocharged engine with 260hp. What the Smoking Tire folks especially liked about the Outback, is that on gravel roads it felt like a rally vehicle. Not sure they'd get the same positive sensations driving something with Forester proportions (2 inches higher roofline, shorter overall length) and 71 less horsepower. But maybe?

Thanks for the review. For what it’s worth, the reason I’m looking at the Forester Wilderness is that I like hiking in the Rockies, especially Colorado 14ers. All of the 14er trailheads are on some sort of road, but many are listed as 4WD. Commenters occasionally discuss “after getting past where the Subarus stop, …”, so I’ve been considering a Jeep Wrangler or a Bronco so that I can tackle any of them. However, they cost $40000 with basic amenities and I have a tough time justifying such an expensive solution to probable overkill on a once-a-year trip up a mountain road. To me, the intentional design choices of the Subaru Wilderness line - better obstacle angles, lower gearing options, front camera - provide the functionality that I need while not requiring me to pay for a rock climber. I think these cars are first movers into a true gap between Sport (I.e., soccer mom) utility vehicles for carrying people and equipment on a road and 4WDs that are clunky but can go absolutely anywhere.

We have two 2021 Crosstrek Outdoor with the new 2.5 …. Great cars for our Canadian winter and with 182 HP ..they move along fine thank you very much …

1. The 2.5 is not new by any stretch of the imagination. (I love the 2.5 and own a vehicle that has one but it is basically the same old ej from the 90's) check out the VIN or the numbers on the engine block and you'll see. 2. You have to work pretty hard to find a car this size with less power. My first car, a 1989 mercury Sable wagon, had about the same power to weight ratio as the forester wilderness. And that did 0-60 in over 10 seconds. (Which is not good)

The STI has limited slip differentials. The forester has open diffs. The only way the forester will outperform the STI is with ground clearance.

ground clearance matters more than you think. Thats probably the biggest problem with the wrx and sti. Best awd in the business but since they're pretty expensive for 2014+ , not many will plow through heavy snow due to bumper or undercarriage damage , or at least i wouldn't.

I concur here. It needs better front and rear differentials. A factory locking rear diff would do it for me - these are terrible at driving up dirt hills (read that as forest roads).

Lift the manual WRX/sti

In Canada, this car has identical interior with Crosstrek (bigger obvi)+ same drive train+ same number. Crosstrek sell at around 32000-35000, Froester did a few exterior change and a lift, now the “Wilderness” sell at 43000….. It’s a ripe off, buy Ourback instead which has 280hp and way better interior and everything else

The 2022 Forester is amazing. The engine feels much powered than it is, feels like 200+HP. The CVT downshifts imitation is done so smoothly, better than Mazda regular automatic, for example. The higher trims don’t have the huge screen and still get bunch of buttons. Upgraded stereo sounds amazing. Space is awesome, the hood design from the driver side is a nice to look at. The blacked out front makes it look much better. Seats are great and the car feels solid. Overall, this is an amazing car. I never understood why it sells so well until I drove the 2022 model. Absolutely amazing car.

Do what you will with this information: I have had a 2019 Forester Sport that I bought used with 10,000 miles on it. 3 years and 20,000 miles later, I'm still driving it and loving it every day. The real story is, though, that this is the only vehicle I've kept for more than a year in the last 5 or 6 years. I've had the Honda Civic, TWO Honda CR-Vs, a Honda Accord, and another Civic. The Forester is the only one that has stayed consistent through all that. Now, I see this Wilderness edition, and I feel like I just need to get rid of my Civic and have two Foresters in the driveway. For so many intangible reasons, I really do love this vehicle!

I like your contents guys. Especially the enthusiasm that you have during the shots is impressive. It is obvious that you love what you do and always look for ways to improve the quality of your work. In this video though, rotating the camera around the car made me dizzy :) It was too fast and way far away from the interest point (the car and Jacob) It felt like Jacob was running around the car to be able to stay with the camera. Good thing he did not fall and injure himself. I think this was the first time you have tried the technique. Good idea but needs a bit more finesse. I am sure you will find a way to make it much better. Good luck.

@@nathansofparadise There is an extra $5k price point for the turbo. But yeah, this should have definitely come with the turbo option. Next generation they’ll probably scrap the turbo in both models and go with a hybrid electric “power on demand” type thing

I have a 2021 Crosstrek Sport Wilderness! Yup! Same engine and a 2" lift, Toyo All Terrain III's one size larger .. aluminium skid plate, all of which gives me 12" of clearance at the pumpkin. The Outback is 578 lbs heavier, 15.5" longer and 3.2" longer WB. The Crosstrek works well for one person .. for two you need an Outback.. My son just bought a 2022 Wilderness for him and the wife because he liked the way I had set up the Crosstrek. 🤠

6:05 Gold on blue is traditional Subaru competition colors back from WRC days with Blue WRX on gold wheels. Need Prodrive STi Forester to take on x3 m340i and Bronco Raptor.

I've owned a 2011 2.5 Outback for nearly a decade. It's a good (but not exciting) daily driver with impressive all-weather traction and utility. I don't care for the CVT -- which required a $2500 servicing -- or the cooling system, which required a radiator replacement.

I've had a 2017 wrx for a couple years and spent $2500 on a clutch replacement. Tradeoffs I suppose.

My wife has the 21 Forester Sport. I do agree that when a phone call comes in, and blocks the digital speed is quiet annoying. In my 21 WRX manual, when a call comes I still can see my digital speed. Regardless of which trim you choose in the Forester, it’s a great vehicle!

Nice, I like the forester sport and it is a better deal than the wilderness for what you get. If I bought another subaru it would be a forester. But yea same deal as your wrx with my 21 sti in terms of calls, except no one can hear me on the phone in car since I put a ridiculously loud catback exhaust on.. which makes me love it even more.

I have a 2021 Outback touring XT .. I love it’s all round capability and with the 2.4 turbo a really fun drive too… The fully loaded tech and luxury / ride quality provides the best value of any brand IMHO. Very impressed so far 12,000 miles of untroubled motoring and my dog loves it too :-)

Oh that music in the intro brings back so many memories 😭

I think the phone blocking speedo thing is fixed with the Outback. Also the paddles are nice when diving up down mountain roads to keep you in "gear".

Everything about your reviews is perfect but I have one request….can you please show the key fob for each vehicle? That’s something I always enjoy and I’m sure others would also. Would take no time at all

I bought a forester wilderness in January really like it. My first SUV last car was a WRX.

Just a point, a lot of us DO SCUBA diver in the forest. Mostly us cave divers. And the roads (if you can call them that) to get back to them mean we usually need trucks or SUVs. So this is actually really useful for a lot of us.

They showed us the wilderness Crosstrek already…but they called it the WRX for some reason.

The buttons to turn off lane keep and collision stuff are in the same place as the Ascent. First thing I do when I get in my wife's Ascent is turn ALL that eyesight safety stuff off. I can't over emphasize how annoying it is to have your car constantly beeping and dinging at you when you're just driving the car......

If your car is constantly warning you that you’re about to crash, you may want to re-evaluate your driving. I have 2 cars with a full suite of driver assistance and I have 0 issues with them “constantly beeping and dinging”

Love the videos guys, keep them coming. But please stop comparing these launch controls or brake boost with super cars. Compare them to the CR-V or Rav4 and so on

The phone call/digital speedo thing is a non-issue imo, and somehow Subarus just always manage to look and feel like Subarus, every facelift and new release has a similar vibe They're like auto-maker auteurs in that sense

I have Subaru Outback 2021 on that you can get rid of the phone call blocking the digital speedometer. The up and down arrow on steering helps you get rid of it.

You can actually drive with the rear view camera on! (Useful if you are carrying something big in the back and your rear view mirror is blocked. Hold Home button and double tap volume knob, you'll enter factory mode. Go to camera settings and you'll have a love feed to the back up cam that can stay on while driving.

That 360 around the Forester was fantastic. It's great to hear the handling is pretty good. I drive a 2017 Forester XT and I really like the handling, so it's good to know the wilderness still preserves some of that. The new versions of EyeSight and X-mode are also a big improvement! The lane centering and additional X-modes are a nice touch.

The camera was non-stop moving around the vehicle while you introduce the car was so cool

Just got one a week ago. We’re in love!

Got a 2019 Crosstrek Sport here north of Montréal and I have used X-Mode 3 times only over the past few years, standard AWD system will get you 99% of the places you want in winter conditions without the additional settings. Now just waiting for my 2023 Subaru Touring arriving next December.

I love the vapour coming out the back end. So cool. And it’s loud too so an attention grabber. Plus I really enjoy the smell of petro mixed with mint pine nut fragrance. It helps me relax.

LOVE the way you guys are doing the interior segment with the Segway etc!

One thing big feature they left out which is why i bought this over other crossover adventure vehicles is that the wilderness gets not only a revised gearing but the transmission is from the Subaru Ascent and comes with a transmission cooler making it better for low speed crawling off road. Most automatic transmissions like Toyota and Honda or other Subarus will overheat under stressful crawling or excessive use of the AWD where one or more tires are spinning. Subaru not only gave it the looks but also gave it good off road upgrades

My current vehicle is a Subaru! Love it and I’m definitely considering another one next.

Dude- So Comfortable. I just traded in a 2 week old CX5 Carbon Turbo because the seats killed me- Night and day with the Forester

@@Chadwicky35 Wow, really? Mazda gets lots of praise for their luxurious interiors, but I guess in your case the seats just didn't fit right. Interesting info, thanks for sharing!

I just bought a Touring (US) model. The only thing I wish my car had compared to the Wilderness Edition is the capability to 3000 pounds. Other than that it’s a good weekend adventure, family, daily driver. Triple 👍 shout out to the Philippines!

I have watched a lot of your videos, nice work on the editing on this one and the whole walk around.

Researched this car segment for the last 2 months, my findings, - 5th gen forester rated #1 in safety and readability over all others including RAV, trial hawk, honda and bronco. That said, it has been a long road for Subaru from the CVT tranny , oil consumption, head gasket issues of past generation vehicles. At 6'3, CR just announced the Forester is #1 with tall drivers as well, no surprise as the "green house" visibility is very attractive. All the safety dings can be disabled permanently, with the exception of engine on/off at stop. After market solution will solve that as well. So, I will be picking up my Subaru Forester Wilderness / pearl white next week. Comfortable driving on and off road, safety and readability, looks, honest service advisors that I have visited with during this time, all have pushed me this direction. And finally driving my daughters 2017 Forester premium, sold me on being a Subie owner. Suggested maintenance to ensure long life; 30k diff (F/R) service, 40k CVT Transmission service, and oil changes every 4k. HAPPY TRAILS

So with the way you show the interior/exterior while circling, maybe be closer to the car itself? It felt a little far to really analyze the lines and design. Cheers ❤️

I loved my ‘15 Forester XT but after 5 years it had some mysterious starting issues and I dumped it. Also developed a roof leak not related to the sunroof. Wilderness edition makes me want to try again.

Great video! I had seen the regular Forester at a dealer but had only seen the Wilderness online. I was out walking the other day and saw a Wilderness in the driveway of a neighbor. He was nice enough to give me a thorough look see. He said he loves it. I hope the 2023 Foresters will be added to the Subaru website soon so I can get my order placed. The blue in your video is my preference. Thank you!

@@Chadwicky35 i hear you mate but I couldn’t unhear the high revs when I drove my friends 2019 Forester. It’s just that sense of pushing to change gears on the highway that drives me nuts.

Love it, wish they'd bring them to the UK. We only get the hybrid version with loads of hideous chrome which nobody wants! They should just sell this and the Sport and they'd sell loads more.

Living in Arizona and looking for something with more off road ability than my Miata, but still gets good mileage. Thinking of buying one of these as my next car but will probably wait to see what the Crosstrek wilderness looks like and is priced.

Picking up my Outback Wilderness in a week or two, have you done that one yet? Love the channel!!
