If they play their cards right and with luck I can see the UNSC having a future in the 40k galaxy it's very much possible.

    I find it funny how you want a human faction not like the imperium then immediately want the UNSC to be like the Imperium in terms of diplomacy. I think you’re more of a Imperial at heart than you care to admit, give in to your hate and ignorance. REJECT REASON KNOW ONLY WAR

    UNSC terms of diplomacy .. Parks the UNSC Infinity and her support fleet above your planet and then conducts diplomacy with the massive warship powered by Forerunner technology , upgraded by Huragok aka Engineers with shielding that can take hits from plasma weapons that fire at the speed of light while at the same time being armed with 4 large super MACs capable of launching 6,000 ton shells at 25% of the speed of light. Here are our terms . sign here. Or that giant ass warship turns your planet into a radioactive crater. That is UNSC diplomacy in a nutshell. See the UNSC wasn't the government originally. They were and are the military. And that's not counting Nova Bomb diplomacy where they give you the option of signing the agreement or they vaporize your planet. Yes the UNSC is a less religious nut job version of the Imperium except they are willing to tolerate Xenos existance. But the minute anything threatens them that tolerance goes out the window along with the rules of war. Yes the UNSC commits war crimes lots and lots of war crimes it's literally how they survived/won against the Covenant in their own universe. Yes in Halo at this point the Covenant has splintered and we can count on no hands how many actual Prophet lead Covenant's there are .

    If you’re curious about slipspace, it’d completely ignore the great rift because they do not use the warp. The great rift is essentially a very vertical warpstorm cutting the galaxy in half, psychic communication and warp travel is not doable not because its a physical wall but because of warp interference. There are factions in 40k who ignore this issue because they do not use warp tech. Tau, necrons, tyranids, and Eldar use more efficient and or faster methods of ftl. UNSC would also fall into this category of having superior and safer ftl travel, as much as I can see 40k fanboy foaming at the mouth seeing me say that the fact is even in universe 40k acknowledges warp travel is a nightmarish way to ftl travel. Going through space hell is not fun while slipspace is a breeze.

    The Tau do use the Warp for travel, they do it in safer way, but It's also slower, while the Webway also counts as a form of Warp travel.

    Fun fact everything including Halo Legends materials like the prototype suit are actually still existing as part of Halo canon. The power armor used in legends became the power armor Sgt. Maj. Johnson wears in the dlc for Halo Wars 2. Don't know how many suits they made. But it exist. Also fun fact the Gauss Cannons used in halo fire a 25x130mm tungsten round at Mach 40 and Spartans can carry these around and use them as heavy infantry weapons. Also they have the technology to make the M99/M99A2S3 Gauss sniper rifle. And can technologically speaking mass produce Spartans from their population. The last thing any factions in 40k other than the Necrons and maybe the Orkz really wants is to pick a fight with over 3 billion Spartans. If they augmented their military forces at least. Of course that would required them to do a smart thing and listen to Dr.Halsey. The same women they throw under the bus when the truth about the Spartan IIs came out. And yes so everyone is aware the UNSC by casualties rate basically wiped the floor with the Covenant from heavily fortified positions that required the Covenant to use their ships to glass their positions. Literally speaking the UNSC ground forces did their job. The navy on the other hand got their shit rocked repeatedly by the Covenant. Leaving the ground forces to basically die as slowly and begrudgingly as possible. Because the UNSC has a lot going for it on the ground from automated turrets to tanks and heavy artillery. Which caused most of the Covenant's deaths. Here's a whole list of small arms the UNSC has.. www.halopedia.org/Category:UNSC_infantry_weapons Here's a list of artillery and other shit they have on the ground.. www.halopedia.org/Category:UNSC_ground_weapons The "four-forty" on the list is an an artillery piece weapon used by the UNSC. In 2552 Spartan-III trainee Dante-G188 mistook a powerful, distant explosion on Onyx for the testing of a four-forty, which he claimed is a "big one". So they have massive artillery guns. Most of which are mobile as fits the UNSC's combined arms and mobility doctrine. As to the Spartan fighting a Space Marine . The Spartans are more or less assassin . So were talking active camouflage and using something like the M99A2S3 Gauss Rifle. Which is capable of vaporizing a human sized target. So an Imperial Guardsmen hole in a Space Marine will 100% kill said Space Marine. Also the UNSC Smart AI's are transhuman and the UNSC can override them with a code word.

    with your thing about if they go past the wall of the rift would it affect them in slipspace, I am tempted to say no, because slipspace is as said by "halopedia" "Slipspace is a tangle of intertwined non-spatial dimensions, comparably similar to a wadded up piece of paper; rather like taking the classic "flat sheet" used to represent gravity and crumpling it up into a ball, thereby creating extra dimensions and shorter spaces between points." so chances are no..

    When it comes to numbers, you also have to consider the area they are guarding. Sure, while there are likely many more space Marines then Spartans, they also are spread out among billions of imperial worlds guarding them, where as the smaller amount of Spartans only have about a thousand worlds. Amassing Space Marines to eliminate the Spartans is impossible as the numbers needed would just take space Marines away from much more important fronts making the exchange not worth it.

  • @John2r1

    @John2r1

    Um Ironically given that the Space Marines artificially keep their numbers around 1,000,000 ie 1000 chapters of 1000 each not counting recruits or staff. And the Spartans don't do that. And counting the babies of the Spartans aka Spartan IVs which are fully grown veterans before becoming Spartans and given the estimated population of around 35 Billion give or take since the post war population of the UNSC was estimated at around 58 billion and their official casualties report said's 23 billion from the human covenant war that would leave us with 35 billion of that approximately 10% possibly more of their population being full time military personal and given that rounghly 1% of that would be Spartans in general including surviving Spartan 2s and 3s but overwhelmingly Spartan IVs. We get approximately 3,500,000,000 overall UNSC personal of that only 35,000,000 or 35 million personal at maximum could be Spartans. We don't have a solid number for how many Spartans there are and since multiplayer in halo is part of the lore as a simulator war game system. Every Spartan created exists in the halo universe. So there are likely more Spartans than Space Marines. But most of them are Spartan IVs. Which are not as strong or as experienced as the older Spartan generations. The Spartan IVs armor bridges the strength gap. And yes to take out even an even number of Spartans would be such a waste of resources since the UNSC doesn't actually pose a threat to the Imperium directly that it's unlikely the Imperium would spare the resources. When they can be used elsewhere in more important area's. It's risk vs reward is 800 colonies 78 of which need terraforming plus some giant ring worlds and a shield world aka Dyson Sphere from millennia ago before the Imperium was a thing really worth the headache when the UNSC don't like Xenos either and are more likely to come to the aid of outer worlds near them anyways. After they find out the Imperium are humans too. Granted they expect to be paid but that's a small price to be able to move troops around more to deal with actual threats. And Spartans are more designed as assassins compared to Space Marines.

    @@John2r1 Thanks for the number. Didn't realize there would be so many. Even if many are spartan 4s, that's at least one thing they have I guess.

    @@initiative_general2227 Most people don't the reason I gave the percentages I did are two factors . 1. The UNSC just ended a war against the Covenant that cost them 23 Billion humans. And 78 worlds totally glassed plus roughly 500 that were attacked but not completely lost. Granted 23 billion humans is a large number to a population of just about 58 billion before the war . The resources loss is even more of a issue for them. But that also means that roughly 10% of their population had to be mobilized to defend themselves. 2. Spartans are Special Forces Operators. They don't just accept anyone who comes knocking asking to become a Spartan. The steps start with becoming a member of one of the other special forces units such as Rangers, Spetsnaz , Green Berets , etc. Then being the best at their job there and being selected / volunteering for ODST school then being the top of their class then spending years as an ODST excelling at the job which is shock infantry and special forces with a high death rate even before hitting the ground from orbit. After that they maybe invited to the Spartan 4 selection process . If they pass they get augmented. After that it's a matter of earning their armor before they can call themselves Spartans. 1% of the top 1% of ODSTs who recruit from the top 1% of all other special forces humanity's military's have. Manage to become Spartans. It's a long process . So by comparison the Spartan Branch is the smallest branch with the largest budget. Creating artificial demigods is not cheap. But the survival of the UNSC/UEG kind of depends on it. That and the metric crap ton of tech they managed to Strategically Transfer Equipment to Alternate Locations from both the Covenant and Forerunners and some from ancient humanity. The acronym for that is STEAL lol. The UNSC managed to steal everything that wasn't bolted down and brought cutting torches to steal anything that was, along with the bolts. Then proceeded to reverse engineer said acquired technology for their own use. They also got the Huragok aka Engineers kind of the same way. Except the Engineers recognized the Humans as friends in the same way a dog recognizes its owner sorta, and decided it was in their best interest to get away from the Covenant. They have been happily working with humanity ever since.

    The UNSC are squat level stubborn , have a massive amount of resources including archotech including Hard Light weapons capable of vaporizing a Space Marine as small arms. Mostly available to Spartans. So they have that kind of use to the Imperium. Resources from being larger than Ultramar segmentium, a large number of weapons , armor , ability to mass produce super soldiers, etc. Basically similar to the Squats they have to a lot of things the Imperium would like to have . Now the Huragok pets of theirs would be really strange pets to the Imperium. So in most cases the Imperium would want them to join and they would have to many things of value for them to just get exterminated without risking the technologies they have. And the Mechanicus is not going to allow that shit to happen. Fully functional STC level constracts being destroyed that's tech heresy.

    You talk a lot of about how shady the Tau are but you're also kinda overlooking the fact that the UNSC is almost as shady as they are, especially Oni which pulls stunts even the Inquisition would call madness. Frankly the Tau having ulterior motives shouldn't be a deal breaker because EVERY major faction aside from the Votaan wants to be the ones on top.

    ONI is literally the CIA , KGB and former East German goverment rolled into one. The UEG which is the actual government of humanity from Halo will likely reach out to them with a peaceful coexistence branch of absolute BS. And at the same time the UNSC and ONI will start Strategically Transfering Equipment to Alternative Locations from the Tau right under slit face hole thing in the place of noses. Until they have enough tech and fire power to unbalance the situation in their favor. If ONI offers you a piece of candy don't take it . If they offer to work with you on new projects they are stealing your shit. And if they offer you an option to take money in exchange for favors . Take the money the alternative is an assassin with a Hard Sound Rifle making your heart explode . ONI is a cruel and sadistic organization that is considered an intelligence organization. Which has an unlimited black budget and a whole lot of military hardware for an intelligence organization. So the UNSC also has ulterior motives.
