Look at Bhagavadgita shloka 7.3

The Chandokhya upanishad says that " Sarvam khalu Idam Bhrahma ". If the world is unreal, Brahman also must be unreal! How can this paradox be explained ?

Scriptural statements could either be taken in their literal sense (vakyartha) or in their indicative meaning (laksyartha). As per my limited level of understanding, the Mahavakyas should be taken in their laksyartha only. According to the Mimamsakas the negation of an object necessarily reveals its substratum. The absence of the ball on this table is always with reference to the table. Similarly the negation of jagat is always with reference to its adhisthanam which is Brahman. This is my understanding. I may as well be wrong. 🙏

It is unreal as the World. It is real as Brahman. -this is the meaning of Brahma satyam jagat mithya. Mithya means 'appearing as something else.'

The speaker has a thorough grasp of advaita vedanta. However, in her exposition she depends more on Prkarana granthas than on sastra granthas. Exposition of advaita vedanta based on sastra granthas like Prastana trayas would have been more beneficial to her listeners. It will be of great benefit to the layman as well as the pundit, if she can reconcile seeming contradictions in certain sastra vakyas. To suggest a few such vakyas------- (1) Neti Neti of the Br. Up. and Sarvang khalu Idam Bhrahma of the Chandokhya upanishad needs a reconciliation. (2) In the Gita chapter 9 sloka 4&5----- Matstani sarva bhoothani, na chaham teshu avasthithah and Na cha Matstani bhoothani need reconciliation. Hope that when time permits the speaker may help us on this subject.

@@muralidharankv169 Reality of world in nothing more than mere perception with no substantive reality, while only substantive reality is that which enables, illumines and comprehends the rising and resolving perceptions. No more no less. (FYI)
