@@evda4919from what I can tell, Americans do tend to emphasize the importance of straight white teeth as a status symbol more than other countries. combine that with the fact that dental insurance is separate from our already notoriously terrible healthcare industry, and you’ve got a perfect storm for ppl seeking out cheap alternatives to give the illusion of straight white teeth with veneers tbf though, it seems to be more popular in the UK to fly to another country to get cheaper dental work, like turkey.

In Hong Kong, there’s a law that spas and gyms have to have a 48 hr cool down period where you can cancel the contract because they’re so predatory and it’s such a widespread issue

Especially when the big celebrities getting even the most major and deadly surgeries like the Kardashian’s, just get it all undone a few years later when a different “aesthetic” becomes popular. Why would anyone take it seriously when for example they see people like Kim K getting dozens of procedures to get that unnatural hourglass, then a few years later she had basically every surgery reversed? Or how that entire family look completely different to when their show started/they turned 18.

Like that nude Joannah a few years ago that was doing literally everyone including tana mongeau and anyone in her circle. That shit went so far I was getting surprised by the people she was servicing. I understand her marketing technique that then increases her “value” so she can charge more by saying all those people go to her. The whole thing is wild to me.

​@@valerie-pinkpeach I think you're confusing BBLs with the gastric sleeve/gastric bypass surgery. BBL is a Brazilian butt lift. They take some far from elsewhere in the body and use it to give people an ass. It's not really for the purpose of weight loss or becoming skinny tho. The sleeve it's where they surgically remove like half or more of the stomach so people get full quicker and physically cannot eat as much as they used to. It's specifically for weight loss. BBLs are super common but also super dangerous. The fat can migrate and mess with your heart and lungs and has caused many deaths. It's the most risky cosmetic procedure you can do.

I got laser hair removal through laser away. It’s not scammy she seems to be misinformed about how the payment plans work. The total cost of my laser package was $4000. Unless you want to pay all that up front, you will need a payment plan. And yes, it’s a “loan”, just like a car that you make payments on if you don’t buy in cash up front. The employees are salespeople, so yes, they are very bubbly and want to sell you things. I personally didn’t get treated poorly due to being on the monthly payments but if that was her experience that’s unfortunate. The nurses performing the procedures are actually real licensed nurses so it is a legit company.

the thing ab plastic surgery is that it’s bodily taxing, like not only do you have to have money but the time for the surgery and recovery period as well. your body went through a traumatic experience, as is any surgery, where it was cut up and, depending on the surgery, could have been either filed down, had implants put on, skin removed, etc. that’s hard on the body, really hard actually. and it’s not a short recovery time either, it can be long and uncomfortable and you can absolutely be in pain for days after. it’s not easy at all, it’s not just something that’s started one day and done the next.

I wanted a cosmetic procedure for my ptosis as I'm really self conscious about my appearance. Because of scarring, the toll cosmetic procedures can take and because it doesn't last long, I decided to wait until the droop is affecting my daytime vision to do anything about it. I'm only 25, it's going to get worse with age (it affects my low light vision but didn't when I was younger) so the less surgeries I have, the better it will be for me

I work for a company that distributes fillers. People who come for training are trained by a plastic surgeon (not our sales rep) and they have to either be a doctor, nurse or dentist. “Filler tech” is not a thing.

Unfortunately in Texas, anyone can inject as long as they have a medical director. It’s so wild to see all of these scammy companies host 1 or 2 day Botox/ filler trainings to anyone who wakes up and decides they want to do it.

I had a consultation with ideal image when I was 17 telling them my age and birthdate and they sold me a cool sculpting procedure for $7,000. I quickly realized I made a mistake and got caught up in the idea of looking how I wanted instead of thinking about financial implications. The same day I emailed saying I was 17 and any contract I signed wasn’t legally binding. They refused to give me my money back. Fortunately my dad’s a lawyer and it took one call for him to get me out of the contract and all my money back.

Oh my god I almost got cool sculpting because a woman I worked with recommended it to me (she had her own business on the side doing it apparently which in hindsight major red flag lol) ! I was totally sold on it but did some more research on it and realized it wasn’t worth the risk of the possible side effect (like it creating lumps apparently). I’m glad your dad was able to get you out of that mess! It’s always good to have a trusted older adult with more life experience for advice and help! It is sickening that place tried to take advantage of you.

Yikes, scammers that have access to people's bodies and well-being are scary.

The thought of people without medical licenses giving veneers makes my teeth hurt.

My heart goes out to the people who have ruined their teeth AND had a huge expense to fix the work done. So sad.

i had a mole on my chin that i got removed, but only because i actually thought about it for YEARS. it’s improved my confidence tremendously. i also got bullied for my nose being big as a child. i thought about surgery as a child, but as an adult i don’t really care. i never really had an issue with my nose, it was them. DONT DO IT BECAUSE OF OTHERS… DO IT FOR YOU!!!

This may sound "ok boomer" of me, but as a 37 almost 38 year old woman, seeing all these young twenty somethings get so much done honestly makes me sad when people my age, including myself, did not look near as beautiful as these young women. It was the wild west in makeup and skincare in the late 2000's and we had no idea what we were doing. I also worry the state of their skin when they reach my age. The moral of this is do what you'd like ladies and gents, but be aware that you only get one face and body and no beauty standard is worth risking your one chance in life or regretting that you didn't leave well enough alone.

I’m 39 and agree with most what of what you said, except that I think our generation is aging much better and looked way better at that age. I think that all of these procedures age young people so much! I always think these people are much older than they actually are. And I also wonder, as you mentioned, what the consequences off all this work will do to their skin and looks as they age? 😩

I cannot imagine the stress that social media is putting on young women … not just the image problems and money, but the constant time commitment … laser appointment, teeth whitening appointment, hair extensions appointment, nail appointment, Botox, appointment, lip filler appointment, face filler appointment … it must be EXHAUSTING

I have started asking these folks if they are overseen by a board certified doctor. Ideal Image dodges the question every time. A lot of dermatologists will perform the same procedures and purchase their injectables through proper channels. Always ask these places what medical training they have! You will be shocked at how many do not! I know it mah be unfeasible for someone to go to a medical doctor to get this work done, but I promise you and your gorgeous skin are worth it!!

Laseraway literally had the exact same script as the first girl, like identical. I was going to do lip fillers and the lady was like oh my goodness my nurses asked if you’ve already had filler, your lips look so perfect! You’re the perfect candidate blah blah blah, they did the monthly payments but as soon as they sent me the link for the loan I was like nope. It’s sad that these companies are preying on people’s insecurities.

On the topic of veneers... my mom got hers, when she was around 20. Due to horrible genetics, she needed them (teeth rotting from inside while looking perfect from outside, so doctors didn't notice) so growing up, I saw her struggling. The cost being so high,she couldn't always afford new ones and it was very visible. Her teeth didn't look clean anymore, no matter how much she brushed and so she hid her smile most of the time. It was really sad and when she got a set of removable teeth a few years back, the dentist really struggled, to fit them to her, as those stubs provided no hold. So they drilled into her gum to make new anchors and the whole process left her unable to eat properly for around 4 month. The suffering those people will have to endure in a few decades is no joke at all :/

To be fair, nearly everything in the US requires a third party loan service. Car broke down? Monthly payments. Tooth chipped? Monthly payments. Can’t afford Christmas presents this year? Monthly payments. It’s easy to sign off on these types of loans when it’s become normalized across the board.

my country, finland, i think is the only country in europe where you dont need to have any training and/or certification to give fillers. like legally nothing stands in your way; anyone with any bussiness can offer them. it’s so dangerous and crazy, we desperately need some laws here to change it. it’s especially harmful because these places will give fillers to minors, there was a big investigation into it by the state media YLE. my lip fillers were done by a literal doctor, and i love them, no complaints, but most people who offer fillers here are absolutely not doctors 😅😅

Truth! Plastic surgery is often used to restore function and form. For example someone could get plastic surgery on their lips/mouth for cleft lip. Or a “nose job” that actually corrects the sinuses and makes it easier to breathe. Or skin grafts to improve the skin barrier after a severe burn. Aesthetics are just one part of plastic surgery. The other is function.

Scammers are always coming up with new schemes, some which are not even up on the internet that you can research about. Some even do the clever trick of manipulating reviews online or giving mixed services. Plus, everyone has been a novice at something, Everyone has been in a situation where they have been so desperate that they would take a chance. It's awful that people blame the victims more that the scammers. Stealing is stealing even if it's neatly packaged with a bow.

As someone who is Turkish, born and raised in Istanbul, i can fully say that even for people who are from Turkey it's sometimes tricky to find a good surgeon. From what I have observed is that usually surgeons that are recommended by doctors I know are all on the pricier side, and might be even close to the pricesEuropen eu at times. The surgeons that have a customer base from abroad are usually known but honestly considering some even offer to pay for the flight and hotels and still be a more affordable option I think shows that although not all are bad , its still questionable in my opinion.

As a nurse injector not in the wild west (the UK) it’s absolutely insane to think a beauty therapist is doing dermal fillers

It's not legal in the US to get filler done by anyone other than a specialist nurse, nurse practitioner or doctor.

My dad got veneers when he was done with braces because his jaw was larger than his teeth and he would have had gaps between them. He got them done professionally and they’ve held up for 35 years and look amazing. THE INVESTMENT IS WORTH IT. You really do get what you pay for.

38:04 at my dentists office they take a picture of you as a new patient. Like, not of your teeth at different angles, but just a picture of you, smiling big for the camera. And everytime i sit in the chair and stare into their computer monitor, i see that picture staring back at me. They are definitely not trained in the art of photography. Maybe they should take this course..

How do these people even do taxes? What do they file their profession as? If they’re not legit dentists,and tech veneers isn’t a thing,what do they file their earnings as? They’re going to get caught like Al Capone. 😂

The funny not so funny part about all this is that in 10-20 years we’re going to see all these people having serious medical problems because of these cheap clandestine plastic surgeries.

I am actually ill at the thought of a veneer tech. I hate the dentist and those are real, medically trained professionals that went to actual dentistry schools for years.....I cannot ever IMAGINE letting some random person who took a virtual course put metal tools in my mouth that is INSANE to me

My parents are dentists and they are horrified by the veneer boom. Pretty looking teeth are not better than your own teeth. Just… destroying healthy teeth for veneers is so horrifying

My dad (who is almost 60 now) recently had to get veneers due to his poor teeth health. They removed all of his teeth and then put in the veneers. This wasn't an aesthetic choice it was literally either that or dentures or no teeth. They told him they will have to redo them every 10-15 years because of the wear the veneers can experience. He had no teeth for 8 months because for full removal they had to wait for his gums to heal and he is genuinely dreading having to go through the process of getting new ones put in again cause of how much it hurt and how hard it was to eat for the month following the implants. Also i had braces for 4 years ( as pre-teen to early teen) and before that i had to see my dentist who determined i had to get surgery to get 5 teeth removed due to cavities and had to have a bridge in my mouth for 6 months prior to widen the roof of my mouth so there was actually room for my teeth to straighten out properly. PLEASE DO NOT SEE BASEMENT BRACES OR VENEER TECHS THEY AREN"T PROPERLY TRAINED SO THEY DON"T ACTUALLY KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING!

I worked for a "med spa" when I was in HS as the patient coordinator/receptionist. All the sales people there would tell clients it took 3-6 treatments for laser when it really took 12+ for most people. They absolutely knew it took more than 6 but lied to get them started and then hooked enough to keep coming. The real scam was the product they pushed along with it that promised better results....which never happened. While I know it can work for people....its not a "one size fits all" and people should go to an actual esthetician or RN/MD for these types of things and not a "med spa" which are often full on untrained people working beyond the scope of their certification/license.

I worked at Milan, the other big place, they absolutely break you down and make sure you do. not. leave. until you sign that paper. their practices are absolutely horrible and predatory. I hated this job so much. I refused to push people that said they couldnt afford it and i was constantly getting in trouble for not forcing people to upgrade when they couldnt afford too.

In my town we have a "Med spa" but they only offer vitamin IV's and and saline/ hydration IV's is that even safe or legal? I have not personally gone but i have been wondering about the legitimacy of such products and services.

I'm watching this on day 3 post-op after a pretty extensive rhinoplasty. Between the bruising, swelling, mouth-breathing, pain and inability to sleep for more than 1 hour at a time it's been okay-ish. What I'm saying is: there is a LOT of discomfort and risk between the before and after pictures. This isn't my first and probably not my last plastic surgery operation, but I advise everyone to weigh these decisions with extreme care.

To add to what you said in the beginning, whilst it may be normalized to a lot of the influencers creating this content to have had cosmetic procedures done, the average viewer is NOT going to have had any cosmetic procedures done. Idk, especially considering the economic climate rn, where the average household is worried they won't be able to afford groceries soon (at least in my country.) It seems so insensitive to recommend expensive products without any kind of disclaimer to the procedures they've had done when it might affect the products outcome, especially when the people you're recommending them to likely can barely afford them. this ended up being a rant but i have a lot of thoughts about the beauty industry lmao

Luckily she doesn’t need your “grace”, as she just made an obvious mistake! She’s been working ridiculously hard recently, yet there’s been what this one mistake in this singular video and even then it was because she tripped up on her words and not due to lack or research or something? Maybe next time think about how your comment might come off rude before posting it? 9:49 I feel so sorry for people who get sold and fall under the narrative of "getting rid of the skin's texture" the only way to do that is with foundation and photoshop and even foundation has texture. A lot of people forget that the skin is an organ, it is alive, it has pores and is composed by cells, its constantly renewing itself! You cant have textureless skin you are not a porcelain doll!

😁 In no way trying to be rude. Mexican -> Spanish. And one of the biggest problems is that these people are not getting veneers. When you shave down the teeth they are technically being crowns. That's why the need to be replaced. Also, true veneers will end up being Cheaper! Even in the US. Like you said it's just a bonding overlay. Btw: So glad to find your video! I was looking into laser treatments.

I feel so bad for the girl who got scammed on the laser treatment. People are so harsh. Being naive or trusting medical professionals isn’t a damn crime like come on. Yes most of us wouldn’t “fall” for that, BUT being naive and being stupid are two different things. This woman was clearly manipulated to the max and I know how hard it is to say no in those situations. They are trained to scam, so it’s not that strange that she, as a more naive or trusting person, will give them a chance.

What blows my mind is if you asked any of these people getting these dangerous procedures done on their teeth, "Hey, would you get a bone reset or have surgery in a house by someone who had a 2 day course?" They would immediately say no. But somehow getting their teeth permanently altered is A-OK because it isn't seen as medical work and it is!

these things have become as common as a manicure, it’s out of control & people end up looking like a caricature of their former self.

Dentists need to be available for all people of all income levels, then people will stop seeking basement braces. It’s actually sad how screwed up our health system is.

A big problem with the veneer and braces, at least in the US, is also majorly impacted by our insurance programs. Most insurance companies consider even fillings or pulling a rotten tooth to be cosmetic. Stuff that can actually KILL you. So people don't go to the dentist because it's hard to even get coverage. I don’t have any coverage for dental and my city only has one dental office that actually works with people of lower income, though even they can be kind of sketchy. They work with a loan company rather than doing payment plans, though there's a time limit that if they don't do all the work you're taking the loan out for they have to pay the remaining to the company themselves. I ended up not getting everything done because they have so many people coming to them I literally couldn't get them booked in time. So now I've got several cavities (luckily they don't hurt) that I had to wait a year to get filled, the time comes around and I'm going to have to cancel simply because I can't afford it.

Where I live you need to be a Nurse or Doctor to be able to do injections. The course to be certified cost about $4000, you have to pass exams and re certify yearly. It’s sad that there are scammers out there using people’s insecurities to make money.

My dad had 2 veneers done when he was a teenager after a football accident irreparably damaged his front teeth, fast forward to last year and one of the "nubs" that was left behind finally fell out and he's just had moulds taken to have a bridge fitted to fill the gap

What’s sad is that it targets all ages. My mother in law who is in her late 40s spent $40k after getting her veneers redone and many of her teeth have to get replaced with implants. It makes me sad because she is beautiful, but follows beauty trends like no other. From Ozempic, to fillers, to veneers.

To your very last point: If a dentist put veneers over cavities, yes, I would expect them to get sued because THEY KNOW BETTER.

Perhaps saying "the banalization of plastic surgery" could be a good term. Because normalization is okay, no-one should be stigmatized for that, but it shouldn't be a banal thing you do one random Wednesday afternoon because you were bored.

I think there are many people who don't consider the effects of e.g. botox and filler when they think about how a certain product looks one someone or is said to make the skin look glowy, smooth, whatever. Obviously, one knows what those "substances" do, but I don't think I am the only one, forgetting to think about that. When I watch a video from an to me unknown creator I don't know what procedures they might have done with their face and think that e.g. a cream they shout out made this effect. But I don't see any creator mention what they did in the beginning of every video. Then it is on us to dig and find out if we really wanna know if a certain product might work.
