From the original artist's point of view, it's a no-brainer. If the new version is successful, they get a nice pay day. As a poor bedroom producer myself, I almost exclusively remix other people's songs because 1) The quality of the vocal recording is top notch and easy to work with 2) It's already a song I like - no one wants to work on terrible songs 3) You want to see if you can make something just as good as the original (or better) - but for a new audience
