I think Diego has that, as there’s a scene in s1 where he searches a large lake for his Reggie’s monocle. But that could just be little bit of foreshadowing of him unlocking his powers later.

Diego’s ability isn’t knife throwing- he can manipulate the trajectory of objects. Yes this skill lends well to knife throwing but it’s this ability that allowed him to stop and redirect the bullets last season

it really amazes me how most people miss this. i've seen quite a few videos and essays on the show and diego's abilities are always "knife throwing". like even without the scene of him redirecting the bullets last season, all the scenes where he throws the knives and they CHANGE TRAJECTORY should be enough of a clue to properly name his powers.

I always thought his ability is to control metal. This make him have a limitation that he cant control static objects, but also widens it cuz he can control whatever that has a trajectory

So ppl assumed his special gift was that he was an expert marksman. When he deflected all those bullets everyone was confused bc it conflicted with what we were shown

@@ndo533 yeah, but during the second season they slowly show his true powers; they shown how he made knives just bend their trajectory mid air and even the first scene of season 2 was him evoiding and redirecting the bullets the soldiers shot at him back to the soldiers. If we want shows that don't carry us by the hand, we have to pay more attention to when this type of worldbuilding is done subtibly.

@@triccele but that's what I'm saying. All he really did in Season 1 was throw knives. They didn't explain his powers at all. So ppl were confused when he deflected those bullets. Thats no one else's fault but the writers if ppl were confused at first bc again, it wasn't really hinted at until season 2

to be fair I think the first umbrella comics were published before misfits so it might be Nathan from Misfits was somewhat based on Klaus or it could just be an accident. Though both of them played by the same actor is most likely just producers being a bit lazy and going for an actor that they knew would do great as a goofy immortal playing with ghosts

My biggest gripe from season 3 was not showing enough of the characters powers.. especially Diego and his recently learned telekinetic trajectory manipulation at the end of season 2! Hope he gets that underwater breathing power up in the next season

Lila being a show exclusive character and one of the best characters makes it even better. (And Ben is named the horror because of the Cthulhu abomination that he uses, horror, abomination, makes sense)

I normally hate the snide kid or the whiny one in shows, but for some reason Klaus and 5 are my favourite characters

While I typically hate changes from the book to show/movie. I like that the umbrella academy doesnt use the traditional villains. Its like heroes with real personality. And real flaws. Meaning that villains would be just the same. heroes, with flaws, that like to work alone. Viktor easily jumped between being a hero and villain. And for anyone whos finished season 3 we know someone else in the family kinda went dark too.

I hope they do more with Diego’s ability. He can curve projectiles at his will. Whether he’s thrown them or not. That’s why I can curve bullets in season 2. But he’s throwing cans in this season and is missing 😂 still love this show so much. Just felt like his ability was a little nerfed this season.

It kinda pissed me off he didn't use his power against Jayme, the spitting one. When they showed her spitting ins slow motion, I asumed Diego was just make the spit went another direction and they would notice what Diego's powers actually were.

for the people still confused about diego's powers, he has trajectory manipulation. he can control things when thrown. or is in the air moving. such as bullets or previously thrown knives.

That Klaus 'spoiler alert' is gonna be the thing from now on, isn't it? I bet not even just with umbrella academy. but can we blame him. he did it so perfectly

I really enjoyed Season 3 and I hope the series gets at least 1 more Season. If so, Season 4 needs to have more scenes of the Umbrellas and the Sparrows fighting alongside each other, as well as give us more information on the other 29 children born with superpowers.

I’d consider Allison the “villain” of this season and there was no resolution to this. It was like watching the villain get everything they want and win in the end and I love klaus’s character development this season, he is my favourite character by far. Him just being like “whatever” when he and luther died was so funny to me. And I would like to know what his spirit barrage, or whatever it was, was.

8:00 actually, Harlen seems to have killed 27 woman. While it’s not 100% confirmed if he actually did, episode 1 of season 3 starts by dropping the 43 kids born to only 16. Since Hargreaves never made any comment about causing less Children to be born in S3, it’s probably more fair to assume they all died like the 6 main character’s mothers

I wanted to comment this too. The commentator for this video is a little naive.

the umbrella academy is the greatest example of not all changes from source material are bad. like i don't mind the plot straying from the original book or in this case comic, as long as it's just good and it works.

Kinda weird the main marketing for this season revolved around the Sparrows but they gave us almost nothing of any substance with them. It was like they were just plot devices to shoehorn in Sloan and the new Ben.

Yeah, most of the Sparrows had so much potential that could have been explored more, but I think marketing-wise it was a clever decision. I don't think they would have gone away with the "ahhh another apocalypse again🙄" strategy, it gets old after sometime. And Sparrows were the only plot point that was known to the audience after S2 that alluded to S3. So why not make hype around it? They couldn't have revealed the Kugelblitz, or Reggie's plans or the Seven Bells so early- it would have taken away the suspense of it.

I wonder if Diego's power fully realized could be similar to accelerator...like imagine diego having an automotic trajectory manipulation field around him that protects him from all bullets and other vectors

No mention of Allison's powers? In the show she just mind controls people. In the comic literally anything she says can come true.

Something I've noticed is that only 5 and now Klaus really know their powers very well at all in the show. Everyone else never had the chance to fully explore what they could do since their father never pushed them beyond their current capabilities (like the crash course Klaus went through). Even 5 struggles to control his time jumping ability. The rest of them had no reason to improve their abilities and hated their father as well, so they stuck to just staying where they were.

Actually in the comics five's cells didn't stop aging because of his time traveling but because of the commission's augmentation surgeries on him to make him the perfect weapon, giving him the dna of the finests assassins and serial killers

I believe in season 3 it was hinted that 5 is (canonically) not aging. I think he mentioned something about eternally being in a state of hormones going wild, or something like that. Of course more difficult to keep it that way with an actually aging actor. However! They could make him age now I'm the new universe.

The ending of the comics is universally bad and predictable ASF SPOILERS Billy butcher loses his mind & kills his teammates and then sets it up so Huey kills him. All of the horrible stuff that you were meant to think was committed by a clone who is really black noir

I just wanted to say... Diego's power is not just throwing knives, he can manipulate the trajectory of any projectile, as it was shown during the intro and final episode of season 2, when he manipulated the bullets.

"rebuked by Allison" *shows the actual scene where she's rebuked by diego* also the match against the space squid was in 1950, not 89, same for the births

it may be depending on the S3 went with viewership. it seemed like S3 didnt have the budget for a lot of the CGI they were going for. Makes me think Netflix didnt have as much faith in it.. Also releasing it the same month as Stranger Things instead of a a different month to retain viewers.

I personally think it'd be fine with just one more season, as much as I love the characters, running for too long can be a problem. I can see the plot lines left being closed in one more season, two if you want to be more generous. Any more than that could ruin the characters imo

The showrunner specifically said he always planned the show to be 4 Seasons, I remember him saying that when promoting Season 2. When Season 1 was being promoted, he said (paraphrased) "Gerard told me the comic is gonna be, I think, 8 volumes? So ideally we'd do 8 Seasons of the show, but I don't know if Netflix will keep us around that long. *laughs*"

They didn't mention the VAST difference between Luther's "ape" body in the show vs comic? Sorry, I thought that was a huge difference.

I really enjoy this kind of adaptation, where it isn't a 1-to-1 or a summary of the original but a remix of it. It would still feel fresh if you only experienced one version yet still be familiar

I think they changed it to make it more obvious for the viewer of the show that vanya/victor is a boy. Also it's pretty rare for transpeople to keep their names since in their mind and in the mind of everyone around them the name is kind of bound to the other gender and it is just a clean cut and the begin of something new ^-^

I think I read something about Elliot Page said he would play Vanya as female and it was the producers choice to match the character to be trans as well. Also its pretty cool to have some positive visibility for trans people.

Diego telekinetically curves things he throws i.e. the knives, it's why he is such a sharpshooter with them

I'm a fan of both. I like very much how the show has become its own thing because you get a lot more characterization and surprise in the plots. Though I do hope to see a more faithful adaptation one day, because the comics setting brings a lot of personality.

Klaus is immortal in the comics too and does also have that same scene in the black and white heaven/afterwolrd(?) meeting who is suggested to be god, tho in the comics its an old cowboy on his horse and not a young girl on a bike

Changes to Klaus are great in my opinion. He's one of my favorites in the show.

Im pretty sure in the comic Diego's only power is holding his breath whilst knife throwing is a skill he practiced to compensate for the fact he doesnt really have a useful power. In the TV show his power is trajectory manipulation though I think

Ben is called the horror because (in the comics at least, I can't remember if they say anything about this in the show) his stomach opens a portal to another dimension full of monsters. It's supposed to be referencing cosmic horror, unspeakable gods, unknowable terrors, the horrors.

Also in the comics klaus isn't always followed around by Ben and only sees his ghost once, and Ben's ghost looks like an actual corpse

Can't believe they forgot one of the best scenes in season 2, his power isn't knife throwing either, it's projectile manipulation, that's why he was able to redirect the bullets twice last season, in the opening and finale.

In the encyclopedia Viktor opens showing the Texas 6 shows Diego with an eye patch.

Luther and five could both technically be related in the show since Lyla was present around Harland even if they never met they were in close enough proximity for him to “feel” her presence so her mother could be the 6th mother to be killed

Ben is The Horror because of his Cthulhu stomach, and Diego is The Kraken because he can hold his breath underwater forever. (Diego's power is holding his breath forever, not water breathing, he uses it to escape gas traps a few times in the comic)

Vanya was my favorite character and they ruined her in season 2 and 3

After watching most of the first two seasons, Vanya is such a genuinely terrible person. I mean, of course she ended the world in season one, but she was manipulated, so she was still a bit of a sympathetic character for me. Then in season 2, she committed adultery and felt no shame, she kidnapped a child, she killed people for no reason after they tried to stop her from kidnapping the child... and I'm sure the rest is just as bad.

I don't understand why we don't call Vanya Vanya in the first 2 seasons. She becomes Viktor in season three, an not earlier. It's cool the worked it in like they did, but come on, don't rewrite the first two seasons. She was called Vanya.

He was always Viktor and deadnaming is never cool even with fictional characters. That’s why they also changed the credits of the first seasons to Elliot Page. It’s not that hard.

@@curlycrown3494 but know we are stuck with confusing descriptions for the sake of political correctness. When I was S02E03, that personage is called Vanya. In S03 it becomes Viktor. Clarity is more important than the feels in this case, is my opinion.

@@DavidHardyNL it's not that difficult to understand (tough sell in a series as complicated as this - if you can understand the time travel, surely you can keep track of one person with a former and an actual name. But your dismissive use of 'feels' and the term 'political correctness' leads me to believe you have no interest in the implications for real live people that are facing active discrimination and hate on a daily basis. While THAT is more important than your 'feels' about clarity.

Leave it to hollywood to add gay, lesbian and trans characters to a story that rocked on it's own.

Surprised that Diego and Viktor’s romantic relationship in the comic isn’t mentioned here but otherwise great vid!

That was her making a quip about Diego’s sperm (how fast she supposedly got pregnant).

I hate some of the changes, it makes it kinda unwatchable, but I do enjoy the addition of Ben being around as a dead ghost.

Only 12? You could make a series with the amount of things that changed

Trajectory manipulation in the show Ability to hold his breath in the comics, his power is definitely better in the show.

The narrator kind of sounds like HCbailey. A lesser known let's player on here

I get so mad that Diego's powers were limited again 🙄,or anyone else's. Is it so hard to follow the source,but happens to every adapted book/comic.

It's SO funny to me that a certain part of tua fandom either likes to headcannon five as ace or ship him with vanya when actually in the comics he coldly shoots her in the head, states outloud he never liked her much, and brags about being a womaniser during his time in the commission. Also there's a weird scene of the comics suggeting he may be somewhat of a creepy pervert

Adding onto that, the comics only shows him once with dolores when he's old in the apocalypse and he never gets back to her/try to find her/even just mentions her anymore after he travels back in time. And on the other hand, comics vanya states the only one she actually loves and considers her family is diego, and they have a couple of scenes suggesting they almost have another sort of Luther-Allison going on so... Eh

All the people saying this make me feel so sad😭😭I’m just gonna ignore that the comics even existed and just go along with the show at this point😭 Ik I said that but I’m intrigued. So she never had any other nice relationship with any other of her siblings? Did they never like make up or anything? I think I saw someone say that comic five and vanya had a thing?? Also what did he do to coke across as a pervert
