Thanks for this video! I recently planted a venus flytrap in part of a pot where I'm growing a tomato plant. I wanted it to be the tomato plant's "bodyguard" for the spring/summer. It's interesting that you said to just feed one head instead of all of them. I wouldn't have thought to do that. Also, I remember reading somewhere long ago that the venus fly trap likes live food, but now it makes more sense after watching this video. I now understand that as a bug keeps on tripping the hairs, the venus fly trap can confirm that it really has prey, which makes sense.

I am a praying mantis keeper so I always have live blue bottle flies on hand since that is the primary food for the mantis's. I thought it would be fun & easy to get a venus fly trap. I got one & I absolutely love it! I have it next to my mantis enclosure under the large grow light for my vivariums. It has been thriving. it is so fun to feed it & watch it snap closed. The mantis's also require distilled water so I have that on hand also. I love this little plant.

I have two Venus Flytraps and both have a flower shoot growing from them. I’am new to growing them and I’am fortunately (I feel) having great success with them but not sure what a flower shoot means to the plant or what I should do about/with it. The flowers have not yet opened or bloomed. Any help is greatly appreciated and I’d like to thank you for helping me with the success of my two plants, your videos are very informative and make caring for them a breeze! 😊

Thanks for the great video! I am wondering, after watching this and many other videos, how does a Venus Fly Trap grow without nutrients? They are supposed to be grown in medium with no nutrients, like peat moss, and watered only with distilled water. Besides the CO2 + Light, where do they get nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium, among others, to grow, and produce plant mass?
Thank you! I just got one last night. I have a mantis and I have mealworms and nubia roaches. It's tiny so I assume Nubia would be too fast and big but do mealworms count as having too hard an exoskeleton? How big is too big?
Put the crickets in the fridge for ~10 minutes (or freezer for 3-5) to make them docile
I just ordered a Venus flytrap, and they suggested purchasing dehydrated mealworms, so I’m curious what you think about that? They did say to rehydrate them with a couple drops of water. I definitely will use the right kind of water for this.

Yup, that works. I sometimes use mealworms too, but I prefer live insects.
I learned a hard lesson about my trap and bugs. The fly trap does not like hardshell bugs like beetles. I guess the shell presents a problem.
Hello, I have recently bought a Venus Flytrap from amazon and I'm awaiting its arrival. I have bought some venus flytrap special soil for when I need to repot it. I have also bought a pot of bloodworms for the winter to feed it. What I wanted to know is how many of the traps do you feed the worms to? All of them or only one of the traps for the whole plant.
@sockmcsockston4308

Feed one trap at a time! Each individual trap can only close a few times before it dies off, so you'll run out of traps if you feed too many too often!
How much do you have to water them
Do you have any Pitcher Plants?
I think one of the other flytrap channels (Was it Flytrap Garden or someone else?) actually did find 1 type of human meat the plant can actually digest, though I forget what it was. But yeah in the vast majority of these experiments the traps end up rotting. So it definitely is safer to just not try human food at all.
Hi there! I was wondering what your thoughts are on liquid venus fly trap food?
Cam you feed Venus flytraps waxworms?
Are wasps (and similiar bugs) a food source too? I fed my trap once with a wasp and noticed that it took her longer to diguest. It was also pretty sticky and started to molt. It was glued in one side of my trap so i had to remove the entire head. Was that only a coinsidence?

@@venusflytrapworld Ok. Thx. May I have another Q: I noticed that sometimes when a bug gets diguested it sometimes leaves a black mark (happend with a wasp but also a normal house fly sometimes) The bug sticks on the leafe too. What does it mean? Have searched on the web but with no luck
Hi. I think I may know why the heads whither from feeding each head. It requires energy for each head to close, so making every head close will nearly kill the plant as well. Digesting multiple bugs simultaneously is likely far too resource intensive for the venus flytrap - hence why the heads whither... likely its trying to protect itself by doing this. (this is just a theory - I have had venus flytraps for many years)

hey, quick question about Venus flytrap dormancy, if you grow / keep Venus flytrap indoors at all times, do they need to go into dormancy?
@venusflytrapworld
3 жыл бұрын
Venus flytraps always need dormancy. If you grow them indoors, sometimes a cold basement, porch or garage works for dormancy. Also, refrigerator dormancy is an option, but it is more involved.
@venusflytrapworld
3 жыл бұрын
@Alison Holme Hi! The reason a basement and a garage work sometimes, is because they often get cold. Venus flytraps need to be exposed to temperatures below 45F for several months to complete dormancy. This article contains more details : venusflytrapworld.com/can-you-skip-venus-flytrap-dormancy-best-strategies/#:~:text=Dormancy%20is%20essential%20for%20the,rise%2C%20Venus%20flytraps%20exit%20dormancy.

Not 100% sure, but here are some ideas... Sometimes the leaves are healthy, but if they are older, they might be exhausted and do not need bugs. Dormancy can also generate some changes in the behavior. Btw I wouldn't worry too much when your plants are looking happy and healthy 😉
this might be a obvious question D: if you feed 1 ''mouth'' something does it feed the whole plant or is it per ''mouth''?

Wah.. that’s means it’s not practical at all to grow VFT in lowlands of tropical/equatorial regions like Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia or practically any country that does not winter season.These plants are slowly growing and will take many years & also many dormancy periods to become fully grown & reproduce. But according to the reports/ findings.. without going through dormancy , the VFT’s life expectancy is only 2 years.. that’s very sad ya. But many many thanks for the information/ links provided. 🙏🙏
Just bought this plant and repotted it. Most the traps were closed . Also i got lucky as there was a stalk already grown :) . Yet the open trap i fed some Blood worms and the trap refuses to close ?! Ive applied slght pressure and it close some then it sprung back open ?! Again i applied pressure also the blood worm chunk was mixed with water. Yet i left it overnight and the trap is still rather open. Thinking of removing the blood worm from the trap to avoid mold. This plant appears to be acting slow. Ive given it 14 hrs light and it still sluggish ?! Peat Mose in the pot, edges of pot bordered with Spagnam Moss and Distilled water in a pot underneath ( 3 ins' in a 6' pot )... Beginner here ?!
