The Ultimate Spray Paint Can Shaker - Homemade DIY Tool

This is a homemade spray can paint shaker that I built using scrap materials that I had laying around the shop. It has saved me so much time and money over the last couple years. I show how I made this tool, why it was needed, and how it is used. I also give some paint tips and talk about other designs of automatic aerosol paint can shakers.

Nicely done! Sounds like the shaker has proven itself to be worthy of the time it took to fabricate. Thanks for posting.

@06:15 an Irwin Quick-Grip Micro Bar Clamp clamp works very well as a variable trigger holder.

I really like your can shaker design- efficient to use and inexpensive to make. I intend to make one similar to yours but I will make it so it can be mounted in a bench vice. That way it can be maybe a bit lighter and be put it away when not needed.

I come in search of such things since the cheaper aerosols I can get are probably very well settled old stock. This stuff is not cheap. The retailer wont refund if it;s not shaken so vigorously that the lump inside has dented the crap out of the base of the can. If I could even shake it that hard it might spray just fine? This is a pretty decent creation Rich. Thanks for sharing your intellectual property. Very decent of a man to share knowledge

I have found warming clear coat finishes helps prevent spray splatter. I set the can on my Delongi space heater for 10-15 minutes.

I like your paint shaker. I also use a lot of spray paint. I solved many of my spray paint problems a few years ago by not buying Rustoleum spray paint. Out of all the brands of paint, Rustoleum is the brand that has the most trouble. I also take the spray nozzles off to clean them when I am finished. Thanks for posting.

Thanks, just curious, which brand have you liked the best? I forgot to mention cleaning the nozzles. I pull them off and use the air gun rather than turn the cans upside down, wasting the propellent. I also saved the best nozzles for future use. Some spray a little better than others.

@@projectswithrich22 I don't have much trouble with Krylon. The way I clean the tips is by spraying brake cleaner through the tip. I take the nozzle off the brake cleaner can and slide a 1/2" long plastic tube over the nipple coming out of the can. That way the paint can nozzle will fit into the tube. I got the tube from the inside of a spray can.

Excellent job. I'm thinking through a dedicated shaker without using a sawsall or a drill.

I used my sawsall for shaking spray paint, did a good job until the chuck broke. Having trouble finding repair parts now.

I haven't broken any sawzall parts, but I have broken some grinder parts. ereplacementparts.com has just about everything for fixing power tools.
