You are not an Nintendo fanboy, you would only own the switch. If you were I’m more Nintendo fanboy than you because I only own a switch and have no intention of owning a steam deck ever it is a new device designed to appeal to the superficial, shallow, narrowminded, spoilt, and entitled PC master race crowd, I accept the steam deck is going to win in graphics and performance over the switch, but that stuff don’t matter to me too much. It’s all about the games and Nintendo has the steam deck beat when it comes to the fun factor on games and exclusives ultimately, has more of a mass appeal for the mainstream done the steam deck.

@@Adamtendo_player_1 I own every Nintendo game console apart from Virtual Boy(which I would have no use for).I do like better quality graphics on Stem Deck,but will still use my Switch for N exclusives.I'm a big fan of portable gaming and love Nintendo but now on Deck I can play Elden Ring on the go.You can own multiple different systems and be a fanboy of one you know.I own more than 20 game consoles an over 400 games at the moment.Nintendo always have this magic in their exclusive games.But just exclusives

The Steam Deck has WAYYYYY more games and more capabilities and possibilities. And I think that some of its shortcoming are not very big obstacles. So, I'd get the Steam Deck.

Ya know…. I said the same thing myself. Come to find out the Switch is a goddamn headache to emulate and I’ve yet to get it up and running. Tried several Prod and Title Keys from many sites, firmware files so far haven’t worked and it’s hard as shit to even find ROMS…

The biggest difference I would say there is between the switch and deck isn’t what’s physically different (I mean yes but) it’s their target audience. Switch is mostly a family console that is simply just a ‘put in game, play’. The deck, while a streamlined pc device for gaming, it still carries some of the pc dna in it. It’s audience is more gamer focused then just ‘people who might dabble or want an entertainment with friends and family’. Like you said, not only does the switch come with 2 controllers, but also comes with a tv dock, while the deck, all of those are additional purchases. If I wanted to get a console for kid, I would go for the switch. Even for an adult, depending on their lifestyle and how much they play, I would recommend a switch. But someone who already has some sort of steam library and is willing to do some small extra steps to optimise the deck, it is one of the best options out right now. The only thing I would correct you on is while handheld, the deck is limited to its 720p resolution, you can pretty much make it any resolution once hooked up to an external display (obviously not recommended to do 4K). While the switch for some games can go above 720, none go to 1080 (I believe).

Listen up kid, switch is from 2017, high efficiency arm chip that is meant for, primarily for kids, and then for adults, and play as that. No surprise that Nintendo sells more because has a wider range of selling points, while PC users are usually more niche in comparison. Even tho, those two platforms got something for everyone, I like how convenient the switch could be, with the joycons, and I like how the deck can run almost everything, while maintaining a console-like experience, even tho is a PC.

Idk man I got a pretty massive steam collection on a very expensive rig that also has its own dedicated game room with all of my shelves of physical media for my consoles… I would say I am not just a ‘casual’ gamer, and I play the switch quite a lot.

I have both the oled model switch and the 256 gb model steam deck with an upgraded internal ssd, I frankly go for my steam deck more because i can continue my saves from my computer (so long as the game supports cloud save through steam) and not have to worry about restarting at all.. Switch your basically forced to restart unless its one of the ones that was brought into the fold of cross progression. Pc gamer98% of the way

I’ve been a Nintendo gamer for decades. Love my switch and it’s been my primary system. With that said, I’d recommend the average person to buy a steamdeck. I’m looking to get one myself since my laptop is up in age, then I’ll have the best of both.

My joycons actually broke preventing them from sitting in the rail properly so i was forced to use tabletop mode for a while and it wasnt that annoying, besides needing to bring the controller grip around

@1008md I'm guessing you've never used a Steam Deck. When you search for games in the Steam store, just like you would in Nintendo's digital store, you can scroll down to see if the game is Steam Deck verified. If you buy games that say they are verified, the game will work with no tinkering. They even have a section that is only verified games.

Not in battery life. No matter how you slice it, the switch offers better battery life out of the box in addition to better aftermarket battery solutions. For around 30-40 bucks you can get a battery case that will literally triple your battery life while keeping the switch around the same footprint/weight of a steam deck Mind you, I'm probably gonna sell my switch after I buy a small gaming laptop. The options and game selection as well as game costs beat out the switch handily. But as a handheld gaming device and all the perks that benefit portability? the switch is still the best That doesn't undercut what valve has achieved with the steam deck, though

Are you ok!? The deck emulates 90% of the switch library and in many cases at better framerate and resolutions. Also every console from the ps3 down throughout history. Oh ya and every PC game and streams Xbox game pass etc. Like dude, games and accessibility? LOL!@@Adamtendo_player_1

the switch is just a nostalgic thing for me at this point. I'm truly enjoying the physical games but I do enjoy the cross save abilities with some switch & steam games.

The joycon stick drift issue is reason enough for me to never recommend the Switch. Glossing over that problem in this video is irresponsible.

i just can't see these two actually being compared. one is your traditional console, and another is basically just a consolized gaming oriented linux laptop with complete freedom to do whatever. did enjoy the watch though. ill sub. like hearing peoples takes on products i enjoy. i love both systems and do use the deck more... until totk came out. you can get that legally running on sd though pretty well now if you own the game. dont want to go through the effort so switch it is.

The video didn't address the big elephant in the room. Even if the 'Switch mark 2' is backward compatible, I can guarantee you that the 'Switch 3,4,5...' will not play the games you currently paid for with your hard earned cash. Nintendo and Sony also have a habit of closing stores down (Wii U, 3DS, PSP). Although they do say that you can still download your purchases "for the foreseeable future". Its likely my Steam library will still be there long after Nintendo closes the Switch store. After all, I can still download and use all my games I've bought on Steam over the last 20 years. The 'Steamdeck 2' when released will also play my current library in better resolution, detail, effects and framerate than the current model as well, breathing new life into these games.

Great video, great editing and great pacing! One thing I've heard about the Switch is that unless you're a kid or have very small hands then it can be quite awkward to play for extended sessions. You can apparently remedy this by purchasing a controller grip peripheral but this ups the overall size of the device to something similar to the Steam Deck and eliminates the portability advantage that the Switch holds over the Deck. Another thing to note is that titles exclusive to the Switch (and older Nintendo consoles) are extremely easy to get running on the Deck via the emulation tool EmuDeck. As a Steam Deck owner and someone whose only previous experience of Nintendo titles was those released on the Game Boy Advance, it's been a joy to finally have access to the entire Nintendo catalogue on a portable device that also runs all my PC games.

Thanks for the heads up. I went to Best Buy today to test out the Nintendo Switch and realized how damn small it is. I feel like every handheld is directed toward children or people with small hands. I didn't want the steam deck because it was too big but I realize now that I would much rather play on a larger screen with more comfortable grips. I can also get all the Final Fantasy games that are on Switch on Steam as well.

It’s the steam deck, reason being that the steam deck has more games, exclusive if you will. The games are also cheaper and you get good deals on sales. The games run and look better. You get a better experience on the steam deck playing the Witcher than on switch.

also consider joycon is a defective design meant to force players to frequently buy replacement.

But in general I think the comparison with switch to deck is rather meh. One point I give to the switch is being child friendly

Here's my take: the Switch has a lot more flexibility and is easier and friendlier to use, but the steam deck has A LOT more accessibility and versatility. And this is where I think steam deck will win in the long run: the likelihood of your game being available on SD is higher than it being available on NS, meanwhile the likelihood of Valve making another version of the SD that can be taken apart like the switch is also very high considering it's much younger. As someone who never owned a console before, I'm scared of the idea of having to spend money on every game I already bought ON TOP of buying a console, but with Steam Deck, I don't have to worry about that.

I’m debating between the Switch and the Steam Deck, and honestly I’d probably end up getting both. The portability of the Switch is really appealing to me. I’ll probably end up getting the Switch first. Like you said, I agree that the possibility of Steam improving the Steam Deck is much more likely. So I’ll be sitting back and waiting for an improved (and hopefully more portable) version in the future

As an Xbox and Retroarch player it really boils down to do I want the arsenal of Nintendo 2d platformer or do I want to finally be able to play the Last of Us lol

I have both the oled Switch and the oled Steam Deck. I love them both. If a games comes on both the Deck and the Switch I’ll get the Deck version as it has better FPS performance, graphics, and draw distance. I have the Swich for the exclusives, but I hate the exorbitant Nintendo eshop prices that “never” comes down in price, the endless “cutesy” Nintendo games, and the endless Anime style games, I loathe the anime style, I find it immersion killing.

Yeah the same game on switch is cheaper on steam deck, sometimes by $20 less. It also plays and looks better on the deck.

I don't own either system, but have been considering getting one of them. There's a number of considerations, and for me the game selection is the hardest one. On the one hand, there's a far wider selection of games you can play on the Steam Deck (i.e. games you can play on a PC), but on the other hand, some of the Nintendo exclusives are pretty appealing (Zelda, Pokemon, and Mario are the three I'm most interested in). I used to have a Gameboy back in the day, and grew up on those games, and since I haven't had a Nintendo console since the DSi came out, I haven't been able to play any of them, and have missed out on multiple generations of those titles. However, it sounds like you can emulate some Switch games on the Steam Deck (and of course, emulate many other consoles), but from what I'm hearing some people have issues with some titles running properly. Tradeoffs, tradeoffs. I'd probably get the Steam Deck though.

I love how lightweight the Switch is (and the SD is kinda clunky if we’re being honest), but I use my SD wayyyyy more often than the Switch. Lots more options in the genre that I like to play. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Switch is more for like a casual user or kid. You just start the game and play. Also, if you're not playing AAA games but indie / pixel art games then it may be even great for you too. BUT The Steam Deck, month by month was getting better. There are tons of indie games there. You can then play emulators, such as PSP, GameCube, or even Switch (most of the games), nicely down within EmuDeck. Then, obviously you have less demanding games like Fallout New Vegas or Witcher, than even on low settings look waaay better than on Switch ever will. If you're a former PC player knowing AAA titles graphic then it is really hard to switch to ... Switch, to play for example Witcher. The GFX is really dated. Also, on Steam Deck, you can stream your games locally (via Remote Play, but honestly 10x better is Moonlight / Sunshine - you can set it up in 10 mis) and then REAL fun starts. You can play literally any game. Modded GTA 5 that look crazy. Or some Windows game non available on Steam OS, or trickier to install such as online games. I play Fallout 4, GTA 5, Fallout New Vegas (with mods), Virtua Fighter 5 (PS3 Emulator) - some streamed locally, some installed on Steam Deck. You can even sync your saves (if not on Steam Cloud) via for example Syncthing. This is how I sync Yuzu (Switch Emulator) saves on Deck with Yuzu saves on my PC. Honestly, I love my Switch Lite. BUT when I got Steam Deck, it changed everything. Also, Steam Deck is much more comfortable. On the other hand, used Switch Lite cost around 120-140 $ (Depending on country). Steam Deck is much more expensive.

i just think getting a gaming laptop would be better then getting a steam deck. the overall experience seems less refined. while nintendo is lacking performance and flexibility the overall experience is designed towards portability and switching between handheld and tv screen play works seemlessly.

I got the switch, and I love it! My only complaint is while the switch is cheap (relatively) 1st party games are crazy expensive

It’s not just whichever has more points, it’s which point in particular that matter most to you, the thing that hold the most weight, and can be consider a deal breaker. The switch does win on multiple factors but the sole fact that you don’t have to purchase games twice to play them on PC and Deck plus the sales saves a ton of money in the long run, not to mention the extensive modding scene plus Windows installation meaning you can play literally anything you want. Steam Deck steamrolls Switch for me. Not even a question. If you are a big PC gamer, which I would imagine most of us are, have lots of games on PC and your pockets aren’t lined with gold and unlimited funds, Steam Deck ftw. Think about your wallet’s feelings lmao. Switch may be pretty and small and portable but, in the end, these devices are meant to PLAY GAMES. And Valve nails that point right home.

I did get a steam deck. I thought it would be perfect as a portable pc when i go to my girlfriend and could game aswell and i already got a bunch of steam games. But the funny part is that the steam deck made me use my oled switch in handheld more than before so i actually sold me Steam deck after a few months of not using it anymore 😅 My Oled switch got exchanged for the Zelda, totk edition 👍

Honestly, ppl are so fixated on negatives with the Switch being underpowered, but honesty that just makes me optimistic. You gotta remember the Switch is running on old hardware and was released in 2017. Thats 6 years ago! Technology has advanced a bunch since then, case and point, the Steam Deck. It just makes me optimistic for the next Switch if they do make one, with the optimization they're able to do with the current Switch, pair that up with new tech and more and theres no doubt it'll look stunning.

I can see why many people complain because even when the switch was released in 2017, it's hardware was already outdated because it's running based off a 2014 Nvidia tegra. I do think is unfair to compare to switch to the steam deck. Hopefully Nintendo next console be modernly relevant.

Honestly I would use Switch for indie games and first party games - indie games feel right at home for indie game. But for steam deck obviously for more modern third party games

Steam Deck can easily act as joycons, I do it the usb-c way and it's pretty good actually, 120hz, hdr, hi-res, max brightness, altough the deck charges trough the monitor, the monitor needs to be plugged if you want all these. If you're fine with up to 80hz, no hdr, a bit lower brightness and resolution up to 900p, no need for power and again no need for extra controller.

This statement is not true. The Nintendo Switch is one of the MOST challenging systems to emulate, requiring enormous processing power (Desktop-grade CPUs) and HEAVY optimizations. I doubt you can play “any” Switch game on this console. I love the Steam Deck, but let's try to keep it accurate.

Switch is a fantastic system but tbh I rarely touch my switch oled since getting the oled deck.

The steam deck OLED is my handheld of choice. A lot of the issues from the base steam deck are fixed with the OLED model 👍

that's how it's been for me. quite a bit of em work just fine. however some of em do have some performance issues. but understandable given the compatibility layer overhead + that layer not being optimized for it yet. There's been some improvements though. Sonic generations is still listed as unsupported, and always did run, but had huge performance issues struggling to hit 60 at all. It runs much better now, still has some parts where it dips, but the overall experience is way more playable. And aye, steam deck has OLED Variants now.

I’m thinking about swapping to the steam deck. Miss playing the AAA Games that would come out on hardware that can actually handle it, but on the matter of stick drift, I replaced my joycon thumbsticks three times altogether, last one I did I finally grabbed a set of hall sticks so no more stick drift for my unit.

The Lenovo Lengion Go and the ObeXplayer 2 have their own Joycon style detachable controllers and they play steam games though battery life is meh Im sticking to my Switch

i disagree with games, on the steam deck not only do you have way more options out of the box then the switch, its even possible to play switch exclusive games like animal crossing and mario kart through emulation on the steam deck, the deck should have taken games

Really good review! I defientky think switch ks better, its cheaper and has a lot more fun games! Sure you could say "oh steam has more titles!" But id rather be able to play mario kart, kirby, splatoon, pokemon, legend of zelda, and metroid. Even if its slightly less powerful!

Although the switch may be cheaper, the games certainly aren’t. You do have to pay a more upfront cost with the steam deck. But steam has a huge library of games that you can play. They launch sales every season, and they’re over all cheaper. But if you’re looking for Nintendo games then you really don’t have much of an option.

You can emulate on a Steam Deck and still olay Nintendo games that are on the switch. And they run BETTER

Steam Deck Oled changes things by at least 1 point. For now. At this point there are several aftermarket controller options for the Switch that can keep your investment still at or less than The Steam Deck level-model dependent. This video needs an update.

I feel the age of oled screens on switch and steam will be worse than laptops and phones after the screen close to the cooling system

I wish the steam deck dock boosted performance on a television. Switches beats in that department.

I’d be curious on you revisiting this video now that the Steam Deck has the OLED version. I don’t see why anyone would want a switch with all the freedom the steam deck has. Other than the proprietary Nintendo games

No competition it's steamdeck. Unfortunately though, it is still not available in most countries. Although the exclusives on switch are worth it, and the indie games play great on it.

Only strong points for Nintendo would be exclusives and joycons to play 2 people on the go. Steamdeck destroys it with performance, game deals and huge library you can play forever in any pc.

Switch will end up costing you more money. The consoles themselves are cheap but the game prices and switch online means that in the lifespan of the console (6-7 years) you will end up spending the same as on the steam deck (especially if you live in a country with cheap steam games like argentina)

Why did you mention genshin instead of cod when talking about anticheat games?

This guy is a Nintendo fan the Nintendo switch can’t compare with the steam deck. The Nintendo Switch is made for kids even all the games are aimed at kids the get the parents money. The joycons are trash they are way too small and they hurt your hands.

They're both great ! A better comparison would be the switch lite vs the steam deck !

Can’t beat Nintendo first party in my opinion but if your focused on other games I can see why one would prefer steam deck

switch is limited to 1ghz and 720p 30 fps were steam deck have better hardware and performance anyways depends of what people play

It comes down, for me, to games, and the games are more abundant and work better on the Deck.

If steamdeck had its own connection all the time like a cell phone, i would 100% get it

Joy cons as a single conteoller are pretty bad. Most everyone has a ps4 ps3 x box one x controller ect. Which all work for the steam deck. Cost of a dock is not an issue with those who bought a steam deck.

@@SaltyToad00 to be fair it runs switch games better than the switch, its way more comfortable and i don't have to buy shitty amibos to get what should have been in the base game to begin with. Id buy nintendo games on steam if they were available, sadly this is the next best solution. plus i don't need to pay for nintendo online which lets be honest here is a terrible service.... Plus i have access to a lot more games on one single platform. Sorry if i want to have a good time playing games.

The main reason I chose the Nintendo Switch is, because I simply can play on my PC at home if I want better frame rate or graphics. The switch's battery life is significantly larger, and it's simply lighter, so I can take it onto my campus on longer days without hurting my back with any extra weight. I still believe the steam deck is better for some use cases, but for my case, the choice was obvious.

Switch Oled for me I used to have Steam deck it’s ok 😂 I prefer my switch cause it has more games than Steam deck and better games I sold my Steam deck and I don’t miss it at all

I get the steam deck why it’s so better than the Nintendo switch but do you really need all of this fancy stuff? I have a PS five so I don’t see the point besides portability and it’s more expensive than the Nintendo switch, and with the switch being cheaper, I think you should buy it as it is not the best consuls, but it is affordable and very nice to play with, and you could just get the attachments to make it more comfortable, so I just think it’s a bit. Useless just get a PS five there’s batter gaming consuls out there. It’s a bit overprice in my opinion plus in a few years this technology will get old and cheap so not a good investment. In my opinion the Nintendo switch was the OG and the pavement of creating this modern gaming world and you don’t need to fancy electronics to have fun

Admit it you’re a Nintendo fanboy lol the steam deck beats the switch in so many ways the only thing the switch has over the steam deck is battery life and the oled screen

Since I was a kid I never liked Nintendo games. I was exited by the GameBoy - mainly because of the machinery it represented since I was technology enthusiast. I barely remember it but I know which game I liked the best - a regular, old fashioned and reliable Tetris. I have 0 interest in Nintendo games. I dislike their stupid practices and I see little to no reason to support them since they do nothing to push forward my favorite hobby. Valve on the other hand - I was captured by Half - Life, reasoning and decisions behind it, the way it revolutionized and their politic and way of working with the fans and encouraging them to make or break with mods the foundation they have build. Steam Deck is yet another chapter in their legacy where they pushed the boundaries of Linux gaming with Proton layer, introduce this little machine that gives me the same level of freedom to explore and experiment. When was the last time Nintendo did anything with the community, out of suing them to oblivion?

Switch doesnt win in any aspect besides Nintendo titles and battery. My 3rd party switch dock works for the steam deck and my phone. If you're docking, it makes more sense to use a pro controller even on switch and my 8bitdo works for both aswell
