Damn, I didn't realize that Pidgeotto encounter in Viridian Forest was 1% to occur. Its literally one of my major memories of this game to the extent I straight up thought it was a scripted encounter. Wild.

Summary: - Nuzlocke = permadeath* if a result of a trainer battle (dying to wild mons while training was eventually ruled out), nicknamed, Battle Style Set, semi-hardcore: "no items in Trainer Battles;" Shiny pokemon (Gen2+) and unique mons that cannot be replaced (i.e. Legendaries, Gen1 Pikachu/Starters/Eevee due to lack of breeding in Gen1) are immortal and cannot die so as to not ruin the whole Living Dex - Professor Oak = obtain every available Pokemon that is obtainable before your next Gym Badge; always get the Gym Badge that unlocks the most obtainable mons (ex. Koga is 3rd after Misty in Gen1 because Koga unlocks use of Surf). No external game trades/assistance (in-game trades with NPCs are allowed). - Living Dex = Must have one copy of every Pokemon in your box/party (ex. Pidgey, Pidgeotto, and Pidgeot. If Pidgeotto is KO'd due to nuzlocke rules, must catch/evo another pidgeotto)

professor oak challenge consist of filling your Pokedex as much as possible before each badge, of course it includes getting the final evolution of each pokemon available before the each badge so it can get quite boring with all the grind early game. Living Dex consist of getting each pokémon of the pokedex, one bulbasaur, one Ivysaur, etc.
