Let's appreciate that Jon has more paints at his place than some hobby stores.

A tip for oil paints in tubes and how to store/arrange them for easy visibility, I saw a someone use binder clips on the ends where it's crimped over, to effectively add loops that could then be hung from pegs. As you use the paint in the tube, roll up the end like toothpaste and reclip. Gives a nice visual for when a paint is running low too.

i used to be a traditional oil painter and this method works great, just make sure your caps are on nice and secure so they dont leak. I used command strips on the outside of my painting cabinet, and hang the clips off of them. Iv used this method for years without any issues.

I do this with my water colour tubes, you can then get 3d printed multiple peg racks for pegboards and hang like that.
Your painting set up is SO good. I most of all love the 3d printing area, the chair, and the weights.
I love how authentic your videos are, and as a casual hobbyist/painter you keep your videos easy to approach. I always feel like you will give your real feelings about a topic which I love! Also, bro you gotta stop buying paints 😂😂
When Jon talks about podcasts the only thing I can think of is "This is why you're wrong".

I will 100% back you up on a solid chair. I HAD A Herman Miller but just got an XL secret lab chair, and I've never been more comfortable at my hobby desk. I CAN EASILY get a few extra hours of sitting now. Great video!

It really shows just how much thought and care you have put into that space, places like that are happy places.
Jon, this video is absolutely timely as I am currently setting up my painting area. The furnace filters behind the airbrush station are exactly what I needed to see as a solution to a problem I was trying to figure out how to handle. Thanks!
Thank you for this. I've been wanting to build out a better paint workstation but been running into some hurdles in doing so. But then my wife walked in and saw yours and said how awesome your setup was and "you should build out that section of the garage like that." I think the major hurdle has been removed. :D
THANK YOU for talking about the chair! A Herman Miller chair is absolutely worth the money. I'm lucky enough to work from home and my employer let me borrow one of these bad boys. Makes all the difference in being able to paint for a few hours versus only 30 minutes before getting uncomfortable. More people need this chair!
I would like to know more about the solutions you have for holding/displaying all of that paint. Those look really nice but I don't think you've ever commented on where they came from.
Something I never see in hobby setup videos--a fire extinguisher.
Always love seeing everyone else's setup. Adam Savage says that "Organization is a process...", so its good to see your's for new and better ideas. Thanks!!!
thnks for that tour and showing off the hobby space Jon , its giving me alot of idea to get mine made so I can start slaying the grey and have fun .
This is a great setup. I like how you explain all of your decisions for how everything in chosen and arranged in your space.
Thank you for sharing your hobby space. I absolutely love these sort of videos. I got some great tips, especially with your airbrush set up! I’m ready to get one, but didn’t know how ventilate my space. You just showed me how to get around it! Thank you! Cheers 🍻
I saw smoke coming from the light on your airbrush station and got scared... This video scratches an itch for me, though. I'm a very mise en place kind of person so having a place for everything and everything in its place is satisfying. Can't wait to do that once I get more space!

One of the best videos I've seen that goes through the gear end of it. Thanks so much for sharing all the secrets of your studio!
Fantastic as always! I always love the atmosphere you have in your videos
Totally agree on the chair. I've had one for about twelve years now. Best money ever spent. My best upgrade to my Aeron has been my Atlas headrest (3rd party addon). Look it up, makes the chair oh so comfortable when you want to lean back and relax for a few minutes.
Great video! For paint tubes I used binder clips and a peg board to hang my paint tubes to save space in my last apartment it works well to hang the tubes in a way that you can see all of them in front of you.
i love your work space! my wife and I just bought our house over by fleet farm and im currently working on putting my craft/hobby/office space together. I can never keep mine organized like you do lol, love your videos!
All the UK modellers LOLing at how Jon has a bigger modelling area than the entire area of most people's houses over here.
Absolutely agree about the higher desk level meaning that you force the body to retain a good posture. I have injury-induced scoliosis, and I found painting at a conventional desk to eventually become incredibly painful after a time; I put a dining chair at the kitchen counter (I live alone, so I’m not inconveniencing anyone else) and it’s much, much better. An underrated tip!
Good boy NinJon! Give puppy pats from me plees! ❤️🥰🐶
That looks amazing! A nice way to have paint tubes up on the wall is to use bull clips. Clip them on the end of the tube and then hang them on a pegboard or something alike. A lot of watercolourists use that method.
Thats is Awesome. Got some great ideas to upgrade my own space. Those display cubes..... Brilliant.
I think I will totally do the kitchen base and laminate idea as well! Thanks for this vid!
I have an almost identical airbrush tub! It's easily the best thing I've added to the setup and makes me much more likely to get the airbrush out, especially just for a quick job.
When I was young I didn't have anywhere to paint, so I used to paint lying on the floor with a cushion under my chest for support. I got so used to this that now at 55 I STILL paint lying on the floor with a cushion. Keeps my back dead straight and I've never had any back issues. Additionally it's great for elbow support.
Perfect timing for this video: I'm working towards finally getting my painting area out of my home office and into its own space.
This was a great video. Wonderful information. Thank you for the links and thoughtfulness. Your painting skills are stupendous. Now that we've seen your hobby/job space, we need to see Dale's playtime/hobby space. What he does for fun and how he does things. 😁🤘👍 Seriously, I love seeing Dale's interactions with you. 😄 Be Excellent and Party on, Jon. 🤘🎸😎🌈
That’s so awesome Jon, I dream of such a space. Thanks.
Seeing that jar of Hoppe's oil was a surprise. Never would have thought of using gun oil.
That is one impressive printing and painting shop, very informative and I've picked up some good tips, thanks Ninjon. I was particularly impressed by the weights. I need to exercise more. I've been meaning to join a gym but I can't find one with a decent restaurant and bar 😉😉
Bro, theres a name thrown out there i havent heard in a loooong time or often, jack johnson, amazing surfer and amazing musician.
The recycled cool whip container is the most Minnesota thing! Good for 3d printing supplies or leftover hot dish.
Love your space! While I don't need most of it as I don't make videos or have 3d printers, I think the idea of kitchen cabinets and counters is fantastic and probably much more efficient than multiple desks. Consider me sold!
Love it, nice peek behind the lens
Great motivation to get a nice setup to get painting! love the vid
Sick space! Serious life goals. I am in a much smaller “closet area but I am inspired to make some adjustments
You can never go wrong with a Herman Miller chair. 👍
Aspiring mini painter who also loves nail polish. I also find that I'm reaching for the polishes that are openly displayed over the ones that are tucked away. Wish I had the space to showcase all my paints and polishes.
Nice! That’s a good set up and some good tips!! Thank you sir!! Fantastic as always!!!
Equal parts love & envy of your amazing set up! Thank you for the excellent tip about venting / filtering from the spray booth, that’s been a huge challenge for me

I’m assuming this is a scam ☹️
Ninjon, Thank you for the amazing behind the scenes and hobby room setup. I really love your insight and tips. Something I have been thinking about is how do you and other painters organize paints by color? For example, I have clear acrylic plastic shelves to organize my GW paints. I have the rows setup for base, layer, washes and contrasts. But in my setup I have them left to right. So… I am curious do you use a method to color organize your paints? I would love to hear how you handle that or on your podcast a discussion about that.
14:28 Clip the tubes with binder clips on the crimp end, then you can hang them up in your sightline in a row of tacks or hooks, or even a magnet bar like you'd use in a kitchen for knives.
For tubes hanging binder clips work perfectly.
Amazing Ninjon
Hi Jon! For a way to store your Scalecolor Artist paints on the walls you can use a bulletin board and thumb tacks. On the back end of the tubes you put those lil black binder clips, and they’ll hang nicely. You can make a bulletin board that suits your space without too much difficulty from a lot of what I’ve seen.
Great video and exemplary organisation. The only thing you held back about is where Darrell keeps his gear. I’m guessing it’s under his bed, and possibly on it.
Binder clips and nails on a nicely stained board are a great way to display paint tubes.
Thanks for a great video and tips on making my little corner better. Yet to Christian my airbrush or open my oil paint set but I will , sometime lol.
Hoppes!! Good ol' gunner's cologne, stuff's good for so many uses 😂😂
Awesome setup. That pupperz got so big.
Took me a while to realise the mini was for the miniatures not a small painting area 👍 great video all the same!

Thank you for this video a lot of good tips.
I have a Herman Miller Lido, best investment ever! I basically have the same setup but with IKEA office stuff and height extenders.
Im glad i saw your Hoppe's #9 for your airbrush lube. I was thinking about using rem oil.
In addition to a dumbbell which I have around, I got these things called alpha grips which you can use to exercise your forearms and combat carpal tunnel, they’re super helpful.
Can't wait for next month's painting setup video! 😂
Dope video, thanks for sharing your space.
Investing in a proper chair is absolutely the right call! Thanks for pointing that out. I don't know what your chair costs, but if it is good long lasting quality, then it is most certainly worth every penny of it. I got my DX Racer King Size almost a decade ago. During that timespan i would have had to buy several of the cheaper office chairs, becuase they always break down after 1-2 years andfrankly, they are not that comfortable at all anyway. In contrast, my chair is still holding strong. It sure looks worn and well used, but the cussins are still top, the technical parts are working well and I can sit on it propery supported. Yes it's a big chunk up front, but it will pay out in the long run.
J'ai vraiment apprécié cette vidéo 😃
We clearly need more play-doh snakes. Mountain Dew neon snakes kickstarter when?
A good display solution for paint tubes like the scale artist colors is to bulldog clip the bottom of the tube, put some nails in a board/existing display rack and then use the clips to hang the tubes
Herman miller aeron, good choice. I have used an H&M mirra for years. Recently grabbed a Leap as well. A good chair for long sessions is a worth it imho.
Showing off that desk chair when the real flex is the experimental speedpaints on the desk
That's a sweet set up! If my roommate ever moves out, I'll be appropriating his room to my streaming/painting office 😜
Good call on the chair, after wasting far too much time and money on crappy office chairs from Staples, Office Depot, etc... I finally invested in a Herman Miller Embody 2 years ago and the difference has been astounding.
Thanks for uploading! Finally!!! Waited so long for this. Got the impression that you are a perfectionist when it comes to design of your workspace and really got in deep how to make it as effecient as possible :D Sadly ArtistOpus are OVERPRICED as f***
Quick tip for the Scale 75 artist range, Ikeas peg bord with its hookhangers are great for the tube paints, one hanger holds 12 tubes and kosts 1.5 dollars (in Sweden) peg board is about 20-30 dollars
Kitchen gang kitchen gang. I also have a complete Ikea kitchen as my painting desk!!!! 5M of space!!! and having 14+ cabinets if freaking amazing for storing armies and bits.
My biggest challenge is finding a reliable and durable chair. I find most chairs I have bought last 1-2 years tops and then the bottom welding job fails (the piece that allows the chair to flex backwards). Outside of that I still am seeking a magnifying glass. Preferably one that has a flexible pose body & a vice grip for attaching to a table.
05:15 I have had to move my pc and painting desk into completely different parts of my house for this exact reason. I never used to get anything done because i would sit down to paint, 'oh i need to put some music/podcasts on' half an hour later im still sat there and now im looking at .stl files and wheeeeeeeeeeee
I'm super jelly of your set up, also kinda coincidental I have the exact same chars at my work that you use. 👍
The man is God Tier, love his stuff 💪
Dude, I think your paint booth is on fire...
04:30 100% relatable. Nessa does drive-by gassing on the regular.
He said "...in my drawers"🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 (it's a southern thing!)
“I’ve got alcohol in there”… sounds like the perfect set up to me…. 😂
Awesome!
i used some folding tables for my hobby space and the height is certainly a problem for my back, i am going to seriously consider kitchen counters and cabinets if i upgrade the space.
paint storage is the bane of my existence currently. I have about 300 paints, oils excluded, and the mdf racks are just scattered all around me. I really need to figure out what I'm gonna do once the army painter's fanatics line comes out.
+1 for Herman Miller, I've had mine for 20 years, by far the most comfortable chair I've ever sat in
Wow, this was good. Can you do a series? I could really use help with my kitchen, basement, garage and bathroom.
Id love to get more info on how you customized your Deltof case. Patio Padding? Do you cut it to size from the large cubes? how do you attach it etc. You set up looks great and if as you claim can also keep dust out, I will have to get one sooner than later
Hmm, are those the AP master colours for the new speedpaints on your desk? I look forward to seeing what paints you develop with them!
Some paint racks have bottom row of horizontal hooks to hang some paint tubes. You could order some custom rack with only hooks for tubes, it will look great on the wall I think.
All my drawers are catch-all drawers😂
Most definitely agree on the spending the most on your chair message. Also, please go with an office chair like Jon did. Way better than gaming chairs.
dream painting space
Nice set up but, also look at that cute pupper. X3 Also also; you can get a peg board with some pegs, get some alligator clips with a hole for hanging; that way you can hang your tube paints so you can see what you have.
Nice painting setup :)
A tip for tabletops, if you have a lumberyard in the area check for hardwood tabletop seconds. I got two Maple tabletops as seconds at a fantastic price and they will handle anything both shop work and mini work can throw at them.
I need something like your solution for holding the soflat bottles. They're awkwardly large and I just have them taking up space on my work surface
Nice setup
Finally someone who understands that if I have to set it up every time I want to use it I'm not going to use it.
