The ULTIMATE in LOCO CHANGES! A4 replaces DELTIC..! York 23/11/23

This definitely wasn't to be missed! See 2 giants of the ECML exchanging duties at York with D9000 'Royal Scots Grey' giving way to A4 Pacific 'Sir Nigel Gresley'.
See the Deltic arrive into platform 11 at York having burst up the ECML from Kings Cross arriving ahead of schedule. RSG heads off for a rest and is replaced by 60007 'Sir Nigel' to take on the Steam Dreams service up to Edinburgh.
Lots of enthusiasts out to see this one today - York was busy!
Hope you enjoy the video! Thanks for watching.

Just dawned on me as a kid I’ve been on both… in the cab of Royal Scots Grey at Perth in 1985 I think, and on the footplate of Sir Nigel Gresley at Carnforth Steamtown in 1979. Even got to chuck coal in the fire… bloomin heck it was hot!

Sir Nigel Gresley looking stunning in the BR express blue! I bet the original would be proud to know his name sake is still running. Sir Nigel was the first A4 I ever saw in the flesh at Steamtown, Carnforth in 1980 as a kid. It was in garter blue back then. That was also my first time seeing Flying Scotsman.

Locomotives regardless of being steam, diesel, or anything else powered is like boats & ships they are most likely to be called she's & have been that way for many, many years. Why i really have no idea but, maybe it just sounds better by naming as a she rather than he's. & it's been that way for a very long time ( proberbly since shipping & railways began 🙄🤔) i maybe wrong but, that is my bad memory of it. So, if others have better or more accurate info then fine. But, i will always refer these as she's & even many aircraft are known as she's aswell. i suppose "some" people even call their cars or other modes of transport by a she name. 🙄🙄🙄🤔🤔🤔 It's been like that for many years so who am i to argue with it. I am quite happy for them to be refered as she's. Some don't care & others are not bothered either way it's just a mode of transport to them. The opinion is upto the individual I suppose. It would just depend on how much has respect , care & love for it.

Cliche: if we want to provide free electricity for the whole ECML, just attach a dynamo to Sir Nigel Gresley (the man not the locomotive) as he'll be spinning in his grave for what DaFT has done to his railway.

Both MALLARD & SIR NIGEL GRESLEY are both designed & built by SIR NIGEL GRESLEY & were built for SPEED proved themselves in that MALLARD got the top steam locomotive record at 125 & a bit As for Sir Nigel It's identical twin as far as i know got nothing UNLESS!!! someone knows otherwise. Please do comment As i don't have good memory & be appreciated of a bit of info on things regardless of subjects. 😉

@@animaltvi9515 Check the facts on them. I am quite certain he designed both of these huge fast steam locomotives. not sure which first. But, do some research on them . i very much i am wrong. I have heard far too much about these beautiful steam locomotives along with such iconic steam locomotive as Flying Scotsman, Golden Arrow , Duchess of Sutherrland & Evening Star & i think Golden Arrow. But, as for Sir Nigel Gresley & Mallard i am very certain both designed & built by the same person Sir Nigel himself. But, in do highly suggest do some deep research on them. I doubt i am wrong. But, there is always a possibilty i could be. 🙄🤔

Back in the early 1960`s just before the shutting down of the line between Burton on Trent to Walsall on the old South Staffs Line, I was fortunate to see the "Sir Nigel" hooked up to a 2 coach local service at Pelsall Station. She looked all black and in a really unkempt state and I thought to myself what an inglorious end for a once mighty main-line express Locomotive of the LNER era to be abused like that. Seeing her now in this and other video`s I`m glad she never disappeared into the scrap-yards like so many of her class and now looking magnificent in its original Garter Blue livery.
