The "Ultimate" Hornets Team

Спорт

In this series, I assemble what I believe is the greatest team possible for each franchise. In this specific video, we're looking at the Charlotte Hornets.
5 starters, 5 backups, and 3 rotations players. A total of 13 roster spots on each Ultimate Team. It's not just about talent, but it's about building a team that works and gels together.

As a Hornets fan, I appreciate your explanation of the team’s history, although it is incorrect. When the Bobcats rebranded back to the Hornets, they reclaimed all of their records from the original Hornets days. The current Hornets hold the history of the original ones, and the Bobcats. While the Pelicans have the history of the NO/OKC Hornets and their current team. According to the NBA themselves and all of their media. The Hornets are deemed as playing from 1988-2002, then suspending operations until 2004. The Pelicans are treated as an expansion team that began play in 2002 (as the New Orleans Hornets) So technically what I’m trying to say is that guys like Larry Johnson and Alonzo Mourning SHOULD be on this team and not the Pelicans

Meaning that any time the franchise was in Charlotte. It is legally the history of the current day, Charlotte Hornets anytime they were under the New Orleans banner they are legally the history of the New Orleans pelicans. You can choose to do it this way if you want just know that you were going by Leninger history and not legal history.

Just to correct you on why the Hornets left Charlotte. The old coliseum was large, Charlotte lead the league in attendance or was near the top for many years. The problem was that it didn’t contain very many luxury boxes, which is where the big bucks are made. Add to that the fact that the owner allegedly had an affair on top of wanting the city to build him a new coliseum. This led to a lot of hate for George Shinn. So much so that the fans were fine with letting the team go. Plus they got a deal with the NBA to get a new franchise. Yes, attendance was bad the final season, but that was because of the items I mentioned. If it was just based on attendance, the current Charlotte team would have been gone years ago.

I'm late to say this, but I think there is a way to improve it by going 3 wings. Batum used to be like a god tier role player. Boris Diaw is also an excellent supporting player who can provide good playmaking. He should be in the main rotation. I'd take them and another wing, maybe still Gerald Wallace, and go 3 wings in the starting lineup instead of an undersized backcourt and poor spacing twin towers. Then you'd go Walker and whatever big is most needed, probably Okafor. Repeat the same on the bench with LaMelo at PG, 3 more wings, and Jefferson I guess.

One notable exclusion from this team. Imagine if this team (somehow) made the playoffs and (somehow) forced a game seven with a one-seed team. Imagine witnessing DeSagana Diop have to make two clutch free throws to save these Hornets? I think MJ would pee his pants at that sight.

Let me tell you one thing when you have a team with players like shaq, Kobe, mj, magic etcetera no matter the rotation the team develops its offense and defense by running through those specific players… you disrupt or lose one or two of those players it can disrupt the flow of your whole game plan no matter the rotation… this team not having stand out players but having all solid players who do there job each just well enough and are replacable harder to disrupt that game plan

OH. This is unexpected. Now, previously, I said the Grizzlies would be the worst team of this series. However, because Jonny separated histories of Charlotte and New Orleans...I'm sorry, Charlotte, you are going to be bad here. Like REALLY BAD. When Terry Rozier is a starter for an all-time roster, it's over. On one hand, this is why I have a problem with separating histories between franchises, because it makes it unfair for the younger organization that didn't have as much time to bring in and develop talent (for example, despite the fact that the Ravens never existed when he played, I consider Johnny Unitas a Raven because of the city they're in that cherishes their legend when he played for the Baltimore Colts before they moved to Indianapolis. Same thing with Warren Moon and Earl Campbell for the Oilers/Titans to the Texans.) On the other hand though, I suggest to Jonny to not change anything with what he's doing. This video will give NBA fans a perspective on what happens if you ignore the sentimental values of where a sports legend made his legacy and focus more on the franchise that played with. Then, they can form their opinion on what they want to do. But hey, those are just my thoughts. Reply to me if you would separate histories between franchises that have a similar name and city or not. See you for the Jazz. (Edit: Heat, sorry.)

To me personally I think it matters more what the franchise claims. For example: The Thunder don’t claim the history of the SuperSonics and have expressed the stance that an expansion team in Seattle would have complete access to that history. On the other hand, just because the Hawks spent some time in Milwaukee before the Bucks joins doesn’t mean I believe the Bucks have any claim to those years. Another situation would be the New Orleans Jazz. The Jazz very much claim Pistol Pete as their own player, I wouldn’t agree with putting the Pistol on the Pelicans just because his franchise was originally in NOLA. For a more extreme example, how about the Denver Nuggets and the Denver Nuggets. The original Nuggets were one of the teams that survived the BAA/NBL merger that started the NBA in 1950. The lasted a single season before folding. The current Nuggets, were the Denver Rockets before the ABA/NBA merger, and were forced to rename their team due to a Rockets franchise already being established. The renamed themselves to the Nuggets to honour the previous team, but have never made any claim on that history. Beyond the city and the homage paid in the name, these two franchises have literally nothing to do with each other, I don’t see a reason to force that history on a team that doesn’t want it. For this situation I would disagree with Arnett. From what I understand the Hornets do claim the previous Charlotte Hornets, and the Pelicans start counting their history after the relocation to New Orleans. Though it definitely is messy, I’ll give him that. As long as it’s a consistent ruling, I’ll be content.

I don’t understand not including Larry Johnson, Alonzo Mourning, Glen Rice, Eddie Jones, or Mugsy Bogues into this team if they all played on The Charlotte Hornets. I get the organization moved on to New Orleans but I would consider that it’s own franchise there and continuing with the Pelicans. Like Chris Paul would be the best Pelicans PG in their history because he was playing in New Orleans. All of those guys I mentioned should be included because they played in Charlotte. Just include everyone that played in Charlotte with both Hornets and Bobcats.

Because they’re literally 2 different franchises, who at some points were coexisting at the same time. The existence of the New Orleans Hornets overlapped with the existence of the Charlotte Bobcats. If you include everything, then it an unfair advantage because it’s really 2 different franchises worth of talent…. To be honest, this team could use that edge, lol, but still, in principle, it wouldn’t make sense
