I'd like to share a tip: When your condo has a bedroom window near a busy, high-speed road, it's important to be aware that motorcycles, among other things, can generate significant noise, particularly at night.

Always informative and enjoyable. I appreciate your effort and delivery and agree with your perspectives you share. I entered Thailand 10Dec21 and initially stayed in the asoke area and have returned multiple times between travels. Currently in Jomtien and find old acceptable accommodation without annual contracts around 10k + utilities. I think Bangkok has so much more to offer in variety but having a difficult time leaving the slower paced, lower cost Pattaya area. But, I'm always thinking about Bangkok. Enjoy your travels and I'll keep following your content. Thank you for all you do.

If you get a bike taxi regularly, you will have an accident. It happens to everyone. The costs also creep up. If you were using them for Bt100 a day, 6 days a week, 25 days a month, then there is Bt2500 a month. But realistically, how many times do you need to be going out each month ? The truth is that if you have poor, small accommodation, you will be forced to go out more frequently whereas if you have larger more airy accommodation, you will be happier to stay at home. The offsetting costs can be quite significant in that more expensive but better accommodation can actually work out cheaper overall. Don't fret a lack of a fridge freezer or washing machine. You can buy these and give away, sell on or leave behind. They are not deal breakers. What is your condo electric charge ? Government rate is about Bt4.5 per kWh but commercial places have to charge you about Bt8 per kWh which doubles your electric costs. Onsite pools and gyms look great but no-one ever uses them. However, if you can use them for fitness and relaxation, you save bucket loads of time and money which offsets the rent costs. As Rob said, check the heat of the water and if it is covered or in between buildings, the water will be freezing. I used to live in the JW Marriott on Soi 2 but that was a long time ago and well before room rates hit £200 a night ! These days, I think I'd want a modern condo, which means smaller rooms and a smaller footprint, whereas some older units have much more land. Pools need to be in the sun or uncovered rooftop and few do those in Bangkok. Also, if you're outside looking for somewhere after you arrive, then get a month somewhere first, either a moderate hotel or a serviced apartment. You cannot be fighting 2 battles, trying to find long term accommodation when you're also trying to find a cheaper hotel.

great video, thank you very much for compiling those tips - some of which I totally understand and agree with, like noise travelling / bottle bins etc. I would add not being right next to the elevators as well, especially if these open with the typical "ping" sounds. You'll be hearing that sound all day and all night. It's those little details you only really know once you've had to live with them. Sound insulation is also really important - you can have great -looking apartments apartments with lovely facilities but their walls are paper thin.

@@ProjectBangkok Haha, yeah totally! I've been non-stop travelling in SE Asia for the past 6 months now and have seen the great, the mediocre and the terrible of "apartment design/build" ha ha. Tbh street noises I feel I could live with (trying to always be as far up as possible, even tho I still had the biggest cockroach of my life in a Wyndham Sukhumvit on the 28th floor!), but neighbour sounds are a no-no. Currently in Kuala Lumpur and the nice apartment building (Ceylonz) has walls that are paper thin. Despite great location and facilities and views, I'd not stay here again. Give me Tuktuks any day over obnoxious neighbours! 😛 Just looked at your links for property rental and they're a GODSENT. Thank you SO much! Some good tips in here! Thanks man, though I do think $2k/ month seems extremely high. That’s enough to live anywhere on the planet, including the world’s most expensive cities. I have to assume most people moving to Bangkok are looking for affordability. I love Bangkok, but for that price you could live on the beach somewhere. Hawaii, Australia, Spain, the list goes on. To afford 2k/ month you should be clearing like 80k/ year AFTER taxes.

Great tips, thank you! One quick tip that I heard from somewhere that nobody seems to think about is try to get a room that's at least 7 stories high. Not only does the traffic get quicker, but also bugs can't fly higher than that.

I've stayed at so many airbnbs in bangkok i can't recall so the property names. Great way to test out new areas along chao praya or the bts. Some units seemed like strait up hotels with all the taxis that were pulling up each hour. I know what you mean.. Do you notice rental prices up? Compared to this time last year the year the prices are extremely high from what I remember online.

@@ProjectBangkok really I thought once you sign a lease the rent per month at the start of the contract would carry through? You mentioned account at the end of your video, what type? Can you pay via debit card or money transfer to bank?

  • @ProjectBangkok

Mentioned account? Sorry I don’t follow. The contract is for 1 year so extend you would need a new contract with new dates on. Same as any other country.. some will just be happy to keep a verbal agreement and just keep paying don’t get me wrong.. but then you are acting out of contract and wouldn’t have much to work with legally in the future. It’s better to just get a new contract made up or an add on signed by both parties 👍🏻

My comment was suggesting that youre more clear, if you're gonna be talking and explain areas to people who obviously haven't been yet! Considering thats what the video was made for in the first place. Just a suggestion! And dont become one of those ppl who misuse trending words just because u think it gives you the upper hand, because it doesn't. Comment sections are for comments. If you dont like them, i suggest u turn them off.
