    Very helpful and detailed explanation. Now I can use my leftover k1s to replace some old ceramic one with peace of mind.

    Sounds great apart from it takes a good year for it to mature and if you are replacing the media with k1 keep the old media in your filter until the k1 matures, and it's not the best for nitrite that's when a ceramic media in a shower works

    I'm building (it never ends!) My pond and improving using your K1. Love the stuff, you can not beat it guys! Anyway, in a multi bay / barrel etc situation which comes first - Static k1 or moving bad K1? Thanks

    I went through some numbers telling me that K1 is at least 10 times much better for ammonia, nitrites than the Biohome that i have in my Ehem 4+ 600, i want the best for my fish and i don’t know what to do now, totaly lost,.......

    So Jeremy, in a canister how should I configure? In place of mechanical ceramic noodles? Or after the fine floss? Would a good bio film develop in the latter case? I have a Fluval 407. How would you place the media?

    on a regular pressure filter with sponges and a handle to clean it basically the filters everone says are bad for koi, could you remove all the sponges and fill it up with k1 media? id image it would always be moving around inside the pressure filter as it swirls about?

    Its 6year old I don’t know if you are going to reply or not but my question is when we build external sump filter and we make sections for different media so the first section goes to mechanical filter sponges and then ceramic rings and balls so where should we put the k media should we put in the 2nd section after mechanical filtration or should we do put it in first section, coz if we put in 2nd the food and flow will reduce hence leas food and oxygen to k media .. plzz reply.. and thanx for sharing knowledge.

    I switched out half my ceramic for a K1 micro moving bed area in my sump and the clarity of the water has become dramatically clearer. I'm wondering if I switched out the the other half to moving bed, but not sure if that would be over kill.

    I have about 80 lts of k1 on a 200 drum with air. It's part of a 1500lt system with 40 young perch. I though I have more than enough media but i still have wild ammonia levels. doesanyo elbow how long this media takes to get properly established. Mines still clean after 4 months Andi have seeded with old filter water/ sachem startup bacterial etc.any help would be good? Maybe I've got to much air in moving bed?

    1 year on and my MBBF is running well however my KH is at 1 DKH and i cannot get it to rise. ive tried dolomite and shell grit which i thought would dissolve the rock and shell to great a nice natural buffer to my PH? ive found im also having to add Carbonate hardness generator (and still not getting a rise over 1DKH) my treated tap water for top offs comes out as 7.4 PH and 3-4DKH yet i struggle to maintain PH7 as it falls all the time? anyone know what might be happening? its not cost effective to keep buying commercial powders to raise PH and KH esp when they are not working well. hope somone has faced the same issues who can offer some advice.

    I am going to build a bead style filter. Will K1 stop the solids from passing through? At what microns? Does the media have to move?

  • @palipali4264

    @palipali4264

    5 жыл бұрын

    Always filter your solids to a sump. The bacteria need small surface area food. Larger particles will vlog things up and make too much room for anaerobic bacteria. You'll end up with a big or swamp. Get your larger particles clear of the system in you first stage filtration. It will also make your biological filter more effective.

    I've just made my first moving bed in my sump and I researched this and according to every source it never has to be replaced. The old dead bacteria gets bumped off the K1 and pushed away to let new bacteria grow in it's place.

    Try and get the stuff to sink,so you can run your Nexus/Easypod at full Vario pump at 100%. Impossible! Oase Hel-x 13 is far superior in the Evolution Aqua Filters,period!

    Hi Chris, Our filter media is semi-buoyant and once the bio film has developed, the media will agitate as required. This could take a few weeks depending on the biological activity. As for flow rate, we recommend that for ideal performance a turn over rate of every 2 to 3 hours is found to be best. which enables you to run your pump at a lower speed, which ultimately helps to save energy.
