Great vid jena. Would it be possible to do a follow up video on the exceptions? Standard substats are obvious but sometimes its hard to tell whether a high rolled piece with weird combinations is worth keeping for a niche char

It may sound weird but I basically always roll anything that has high substats unless the mainstat is also trash. I'm always careful since there are so many characters that use weird pieces. Theres so many exceptions it can be hard, for instance ML Kayron can use a flat defense ring on lifesteal which almost no other characters would realistically want. I generally only roll flat hp rings and necks with really good substats but ignore flat defense and flat attack for both. As for boots I NEVER use any flat stats other than speed. How I see it is I always assume 1 roll could be modgemmed to whatever I want so I look at the stats to see if it has potential assuming I change 1 stat at the end and even if I'm unsure who would use it I may roll it to see if it gets decent rolls. I'm just less lenient with that type of gear and care more about its equipment score. Keep in mind the equipment score could be lower before you modgem it because a bad flat stat may be worth so little equipment score.

Good lord finally someone had the decency to create a well thought out equipment video! Thank you. Now please can you make a video going over how to build certain units properly for hunts? That way we can see how you build some units, what their gear is, and how well it does in hunts. Now I get it there’s a ton of videos out there but they don’t bother going in depth to explain how they got units to be decent to farm the next hunt

I needed this. I couldn't keep up at all with other 200minute videos about gear, or even conversations. This hit every point I needed. I'm also devastated to learn you can modify early.. I thought gear had to be +15 and would scale with high rolled substats you replace. They don't, but at least I know why now.

Finally i'm hyped to play the game again

i wish this video existed 5 years ago when i just started this game so that i know what im doing and how gear works in general. this should be the staple video for beginners to know how gears work

I definitely recommend buying the good ones (ones that have all 4 stats good for a character first) but dont keep expectations crazy high

nice video! btw can u explain whats the difference between the equipment's level? because some of my lower level gear somehow had better equipment score than the high level one..

I always understood that the reason you should be more lenient on the right side because the main stat is the biggest stat gain and substats are much less, so basically you will always get max main stat benefit, substats are less important. Where on the left side, the main stat is usually much weaker than what you can roll on substats.

It's meh

My one tip to help newer players is teaching them how to navigate and sort their gear. For most older players moving around the inventory box and character slots is almost like muscle memory now. If you tell a newer player to stream their account and watch them for a bit you will also notice this. Just something I noticed most videos don't really talk about.

I understand everything so far, my one problem is equipment score, it just seems so abstract 😅😓

U forgot to mention some bruisers that have damage dealt based on hp or def does not need to prioritize on atk% that much. This lowers the stat priority to only hp/def crit

Do starting equipment scores matter? for example should i upgrade my 85 epic item if the starting score is just 18? If it does matter around around how many starting score should i aim for? 25 and above?

Oh also I extract AND sell depends if I need the cores of that type or not and if I've already crafted the alchemist steeple charms. I generally like to sell.

Great guide but I wouldn't advertise it as comprehensive. To do that you should have went over good gear for each role along with good gear for all the exceptions (IE ML Bellona or Gala Lillias being DPS units but not wanting crit chance).

If I can nitpick just a tiny bit. Around 6:47 the example shows is a weapon getting a flat attack sub stat, which is not possible.

It was flat defense and I told them it cant be that so they should change it so they changed it to the ONLY OTHER STAT IT CANT BE LOL

Going forward, I think we need to replace all in-game footage with Twitch art.

Finally, something to link to my guildmates so they stop asking me if something is good or worth rolling. Also something to rebuke them when I tell them the gear they gained/roll is bad.

would you consider flat stats as being okay as far as the 2/3 for purple or 3/4 for red? Also, besides speed is there min stats you want on your gear to start to roll?

For purples it can be ok as long as you arent rolling into it for reds it can roll it and still be ok. I'm unsure what you mean by minimum stats wanted to roll

Like how you say speed needs to be plus 3 to start, would you say like atk% needs to be 6% to roll to start. If you have a piece that’s all min rolls to start but right stats should it be rolled

It's more about the overall statline than specific ones such as I'm fine with a stat like attack% being low as long as the other stats are good. It can just be important to look at the gearscore to see if the item has a horrible start or not. If its all min rolls I generally dont roll unless it has speed but I'm really endgame, if newer I'd roll it.@@xxdeuceswild8758

Tried to go over it in the video but yea some combos are bad, mostly flat stats with other flats and just look at red gear as having an extra roll over purple gear meaning they get an extra chance at a roll before stopping upgrading

I really wish theres a way to farm charms, the rng on crafting gear is a headache as it is and the lack of charms makes me want to rip my hair out.

As a newbie, this guide misses a one crucial thing to me. While finding a gear is relatively easy and you also explain where you get them, the materials to upgrade is what stopping me to use any guides as it is simply not enough materials to upgrade. And deciding what's is good or bad is basically irrelevant, as i won't able to try it.
