The Ultimate Engine Choice for a Bronco?
The iconic early Bronco has been fitting with every type of high h.p. V8 but is it really the best option for a Bronco? We went a different direction with a R2.8 Turbo Diesel for torque, drivability and millage.

Enjoy and...relax I'll be back on the Corvair in a couple of months. Taking care of a paying client at the moment.

and oh will you make him pay. :) I can already hear the flood of love coming for cutting up a stock Bronco. I don't care whether or not the fenders were cut, or that it maintains its 'patina' (which is a new way of saying 'lazy') Once those Ford owners get their cars started, they'll be on their way to your house (which means you're safe for now)

Can someone please explain why vw beetle engines make such low hp for their size? ...Like a 1203cc Buell air cooled engine based on old Harley Davidson engine tech with pushrods, 2 valves per cyl, low max rpm can put out 100hp with a few mods & around 90hp stock. Yet it seems like many 1600cc & up vw engines. Even the 1915cc seem to struggle to make 100hp even with lot's of upgrades.

@@michaelbrinks8089 VWs in their relatively stock form, breath poorly which means low h.p.

This man is a master craftsman.iam amazed at his skills. I belive he could build a flying sauser.
John, you are a true craftsman with a great sense of humor. Thanks for sharing, your videos make my day.
I love your work and I appreciate your humor. My friend built a Bronco for son. It was about the same year. He even made a new tailgate because the original one was all rusted out. He did a very nice job. It came with a 6 cylinder but he put in a 289 V-8.
I was about to recommend this engine before the reveal. I knew the R2.8 would be the best choice. 👍🏼
9:00 Ha! And brilliant on the Binky boys bracket reference. 🤣
😅 love the humor, too!
I love the sound effects of the welder sounds like Star Wars
Great editing! (on top of great mechanical work!) (SPOLER ALERT: Lasers were hurt in the making of this video)
Damn, I wish my welder sounded like a light saber. I can't even get the "frying bacon' sound consistently. The little Cummins in the Bronco is the best of everything.
Like that you used the cummins ! 👍😊
Awesome build. Thanks for taking us along for the ride. 💪👍🏼
Cool John’s got a KZread channel! I’ve been a fan since the early KOH
I don't remember telling you it was okay to start another project before finishing the Corvair. Great work.
Awesome! Oh ya….nice brackets
The narration as the front bumper came crashing down was the funniest thing I've seen/heard for ages. I love this channel!!!
Thanks John! 👍💪✌

Nice project, sir ! Always a pleasure to watch your videos.
Great video thanks
Brilliant! A proper Bronco enhancement old chap. Well done, cheers mate. Full disclosure I am near to Boston not across the pond. 😊
John I love your personality in all of the videos, but today I kept hearing Casey Kasem, I kept expecting to hear, " and here's this weeks longdistance dedication."
Great video!
This is my first time seeing your channel but that “just ask my mom, or any of my exes” line convinced me to stay. Well done, young man
Nice project, and lots of humor, as always. The Best! I loved project Binky, until … you know…. just too much waiting
This is gonna be awesome. I was almost expecting to hear a “Watch Wes Work” classic “Got IT” at @2:27….. but this is John’s show with his own detailed humor ‘sprinkled’ in every scene. 👍👍😎👍👍

I throughly enjoyed all of this.
Another great video. Love your sense of humor. Carry on.
Am I the only one that remembers him being on top truck challenge in that blue bronco 😂
Neat new project.
I love your attention to detail. Impressive all the way around!!
Great video...really enjoyed the subject.
Your welder makes the coolest sounds, wish mine did that! :)
Thats awesome. I worked on that 2.8 project at cummins. It's a decent little platform.
I really enjoyed this video, your commentary is easy to absorb. Your craftsmanship is up there on the top shelf John. Anxious to get back into the Cover project. KC
Iconic-ly impressive...
Sound effects!!!
Hope you had a good holiday. Looking forward to updates on the Corvair... soon?
Kick Ass JR!
You are a man with skills!

Impressive as always! I'm sure there's a logical reason by why did you have the bedliner applied before determining the final engine bay clearance requirements?
Big thumbs up on this one as with the rest of your vids!

Good stuff….. but missing the Corv-8T
I'm sure the Cummins will out perform the original set up in most every way but my knee jerk reaction is to stay with the 289. That chassis is a beaut. Can't wait for the finished product test drive.
Love it!!! The video, that is, the Bronco is nice too.

you brought that? hell you could have built it. in 2 years, when is track day for the corvair
👍💪
Looks like that line x will keep the rust off but also add some strength.....If I had the money for a new vehicle. I'd much rather have a restomod like this than a new 2023-24 Bronco
Is there a reason you went with the Kincer over the rs4 from Roadstershop?

No reason really. It's what the customer supplied.
Would love to connect with you about a potential project.
Always liked that version of the Bronco but I wouldn't have a Diesel, especially living in London with mayor Napoleon targeting car owners.

Actually, very little will be cut. BTW, they made EBs for 11 years. Hundreds of thousands of them, they're not really that rare.
And you will get it finished before project binky.
Where's the 'vair?
Is that a full size Bronco or a Bronco 2?

Neither. It's usually just referred to as an "early Bronco" which is 1966 - 1977

I will never, ever, not even in a billion years, use another non-lubeable heim joint on a suspension link ever again. Not even once. Here in the future, we use johnny joints. They are no relation to Clarence and have these cute things call 'zerts' that allow one to lube the joint - thus preventing sloppy seconds... I mean, sloppy suspensions.
You had me until the engine… Gas mileage on a early Bronco should be the last thing on your mind! I owed a 78, 84, 94 and 95. I think 10mpg was the best I got. 300hp minimum from a V8 should be in it.
Not really into the Bronco. But a V-8 corvair…..
