"I like egg shapes" is probably the most mathematical explanation of why someone is passionate about the subject I have ever heard. I'm not really passionate about the shape, never given it a lot of thought, but I can easily see how someone can be enamored by it, for no more sophisticated reason than "I just like the shape". Might seem like a silly thing to be passionate about, for sure, but if you are - you are. And chasing that passion is so cool to see, no matter how small or "silly" it seems from the outside.

Bring egg doctor back Brady. We need his perfect explanations about eggs. My work needs to have non-shifting ball bearing valves fitted in high pressure/load nozzles that can stand solid bombardment from sand and silica. Watersandblasting. And we are trying to incorporate egg shaped valves and shutoffs in our machines. He’s equations have helped much but his explanation had helped even more. Thank you Brady for your work here also. Keep it up, proud of you

They aren’t violent thugs. They are following the commands of their leaders, and fighting for their country. You’d be doing the same thing if you and your family lived in Russia, and you had no other choice. The war isn’t nearly as simple as you seem to think it is. You should educate yourself on the subject, or, better yet, stop talking about it. There are plenty of places to discuss politics and war, if that’s what you want to do, but this video is about mathematics, and eggs, you weenie.

I feel like the natural inputs for an egg are these 4 parameters: volume, maximum breadth of opening, ratio of pressure to opening strength, and rate at which the shell chemically solidifies. You can reduce it to a "unit egg" by using 1:1 for some ratio of the volume to pressure, which can reduce the number of parameters to 3.

🙄 Parroting the narrative of Western news-media, I doubt you grasp the geopolitical realities of the day-what the situation in Ukraine has to do with it. Demilitarization of Ukraine, in addition to perhaps other measures, are the only aversion of catastrophic (and potentially nuclear) conflict. The Russian Federation is unremarkable, but the disastrous arrogance of NATO policy over the last 30 years has done more to bring an end to Kekkonenian peace than anything for which the East is to blame.

  • @billr3053

I'm wondering whether those formulae are based on how the physics works - pressure, spherical inviolable volume, continual shell hardening, etc. Are the formulae in effect based on differential equations - from the acceleration, varying diameters over time - all stemming from measurable forces. I'm afraid my math skills aren't up to the task. I would just like to be assured that they have modelled the true egg shape from underlying principles rather than some visual "niceties" that happen to look right.

  • @Goheeca

A cubic Bézier segment modulo translation/rotation/scale (i.e. you can fix P_0 and P_3) already has 4 degrees of freedom (P_1, P_2 both with two coordinates) and I don't think you can model all half-outlines of eggs with only one cubic Bézier segment. And B-splines are piecewise polynomial functions you will need a high order to approximate various square roots in the egg shape formula.

5th parameter will be needed for black swan's egg. I can't help but think that "pointy" part in egg shape is evolved for easier "relief" of the bird. 😁 I wonder if one could start from modifying ellipse equation: sum of distances from two points are equal to constant. We can (1) add weight to one distance, (2) change distance as functions (ex, use l_p norm on one of them). P.S. I'm sorry for what Russia is doing to Ukraine. 😢
