    I would be really interested to see the same test including Promark's new 'firegrain' sticks. I wonder how much durability the process actually adds to hickory.

    Hi , you thought that the Maple would fail the water test , I knew it wouldn't because its a closed grain wood , where as both Oak and Hickory are open grained woods and will take on moisture faster than the maple . as a drummer for over 30 years and a woodworker for over 47 years , I turn my own sticks and I use Maple as its easier on the hands . Its less stiff than oak or Hickory .

    @@SuperheroJuniorthose unfortunately seem too small, do you know if there's something a couple steps fatter than a 2b in maple?

    You forgot to compare soft or flat spots on the bead from playing bronze cymbals. But more important than when they will break from extreme abuse, is how they sound and how loud they are. That's why I use maple for jazz, because with less mass they are quieter and offer great dynamics. Even in rock, you are going to mic the kit anyway so no need for oak really. Hickory is the average all-purpose wood. I have not broken a stick for decades.

    Yeah. Should have just used all Promark since they are the only ones that make all 3 lol not to mention, each brand uses a different stock diameter for their “5A”

    I have a pair of Promark 747’s pre D’Addario taking ownership of Promark that are 35 years old and I use them all the time. Even if you play rim shots correctly your sticks shouldn’t ever break unless you intentionally tried to break them.

    The pro mark oak sticks are by far the most durable but they dont play as well as hickory and they are harder on your hands if your a hard hitter.

  • @Am71919
    @Am71919 Жыл бұрын

    Oak sticks will only last a long time if you play with the butt ends

  • @CrazyLG72
    @CrazyLG722 жыл бұрын

    I used to play with the Promark oaks. Definitely not a fan of them anymore since discovering the 531 Maple Jason Bonham sticks. They last me as long and feel way better in balance and they dont chip everywhere. Hickory is probably my favorite of the 3 and definitely last longer. It all depends how hard you play. I'm not a rim shot player so sticks last me awhile.
