The Ultimate Cart For Atari 8 bit Computers

Ғылым және технология

We will examine and use the Ultimate Cartridge designed for the Atari 8bit line of computers. This cartridge allows you to emulate any 8k, 16k or any other type of cartridge ever created for the Atari computers. It accepts an SD card for placing ROM or CAR files that can be executed at startup thus emulating the original cartridge.

Thanks for your videos on this. I was debating between this, and a different SD solution to hook up to the SIO bus. This convinced me to go with the SIO bus solution at first, as I really want to be able to save files and such. This will be a perfect second add on for my 800XL for the ease of using carts, though. I am a big fan of The Brewing Academy - great products!

Thanks for the informative video. I ordered my Ultimate Cart several days ago and am looking forward to it. I recently got my 800XL out of the attic and now going retro! After 30+ years of being offline- I am ready to bring the A8 into the 21st century. I am lucky that most of my floppies still work. Also- it looks like you have the Hakko FX888D there... great iron!

That's just cool. The Atari 8-bit was my first computer love so it's so neat to see it still getting love in the 21st century. Also, as a fellow content creator, you've gotta tell me what model that monitor is -- when I first saw your shot of the screen I thought that was a recorded output being composited, but then I realized it was just a standard shot. I've never seen a monitor show up so well on video with no washout or glare!

@@8bitandmore Thanks for that. Looks like it's long past out of production. What a great monitor for classic computers & consoles. Looks wonderful on camera and,4x3 ratio, and, I'm assuming, has traditional A/V RCA inputs? If so, I may have to start hitting up the thrift shops in search of a similar unit.

OSS? They made the Action! language (an orange cartridge). That is where I learned to program. It was like a combination of Pascal & C. You could also inject some machine code bytes. Atari 8-bit got me started as a teenager and into college, where Atari 1040 ST got me the rest of the way through college and my first fulltime programming job (on for Atari hardware of course, but my personal projects helped to secure my first job).

I've seen several videos about the Side3 cart, which tries to do ATR disk images. If you have the U1MB hardware installed (which requires some soldering on the motherboard), then it's apparently nearly flawless, but without it the disk emulation is a bit of a hack. There are a number of SIO options, with the FujiNet probably getting the most buzz. I saw someone with a mini-1050 printed case for an Arduino board that provides disk emulation and other stuff. I've been thinking I might want to build something like that inside my broken 1030 modem case. It's amazing how many different add-ons and hardware mods there are now for the Atari 8-bits.

Thanks for mentioning this,i just won this cart trough an auction on ebay and so now i do know that it doesn’t accept sd cards higher then 4GB,that means i should have to hunt down a 4GB sd card on ebay since stores no longer sells 4GB sd cards anymore, the minimum they do sell is 32GB, Would be very handy such card sothat it could put certain games on it and play them on my atari 400😁

Good video thank you. AVG Cart is much better though. It emulates all carts as well as the SIDE2+Spartados X with full hard drive read/write support. It also supports ATR (floppy disk images) hot swapping when used with U1MB. Its menu isn't as pretty though. Cassette emulation is in the works now by use of a cable between AVG and SIO. See the Atariage forums AVG Cart thread. I enjoy your interest expressed here about A8!

This is fantastic, but there are so many amazing titles that were disk only that do not seem useable here. I think these were Are files. Also titles such as Tarzan and Seven Cities of Gold use more than one disk, which will not work with this. Nevertheless, there seems some great uses for those rare cartridges just as you've mentioned.

I prefer using a 1050 disk drive for the Nostalgia of it! Plus the 1050 drive is pretty fast! Take that from someone that also had a C64 ! In my opinion, if you're gonna use a classic Atari computer with a cartridge loader, you might as well just use an emulator on a PC.

You stated that UltimateCart is limited to a 4GB card, and this has never been true for me. Even if the docs say that officially, I've used 32GB SanDisk Ultra cards with my UltimateCart for the past 18 months and had no issues whatsoever. I think it has more to do with the way the card is formatted. You can't format a card greater than 32GB as FAT32 by default. It takes a special app to do this. For this reason, any microSD card larger than 32GB typically comes formatted as exFAT, and I think that's where the problem comes in. I think that format is incompatible with the UltimateCart. As long as your microsSD card is formatted as FAT32, any card up to 32GB should work, and you may be able to use larger cards as long as you've gone to the extra step of reformatting them to FAT32.
