This entire topic is a trap for many people. Buying a new car and having to actually budget for, on average, over $600/mo is a fast track to useless consumer debt for years. All that for a rapidly depreciating car. No thanks. Buy a cheap beater for cash. Drive it until it can't go any farther and get another. You'll be miles ahead financially.

That may work for some but not for everyone. Many of us understand going through life on the cheap is not best. If you have the means, why drive a "cheap beater?" The reality is smart folks understand how to use "consumer debt" in a useful way.
