@@okplay9446 Arabic is very difficult. I’ve been studying Arabic since 2012 and still have yet to master all the dialects. I’m familiar with Moroccan, Tunisian, and Egyptian Arabic as well as Modern Standard Arabic. Arabic is such a beautiful language. When I majored in Arabic at the university level, they only officially taught Modern Standard Arabic. I joined the US Army a few years ago and went to the Defense Language Institute (DLI) to study Egyptian Arabic.
Man, this book looks so refreshing. It's written in plain English, as if they WANT you to succeed. Too often, I found lower level math books written so esoterically, as if it was written by PhDs for PhD's. I think one of the biggest problems people face when they run into the "Calculus Wall" is due how strongly math books pivot from friendly algebra books to "Math language" Calculus books. Maybe if more were written like this one, people would enjoy math more? Awesome book!

I think it stems from the field of mathematics in general. Mathematics is all about logic and communication. The very fine details matter, the preciseness matters. The average Calculus student does not care about all of those details, theorems, properties, etc. they just want to know how to differentiate and integrate. I myself actually appreciate the amount of detail that goes into textbooks because I don't just want to learn how to solve math problems. I want to learn the concepts, and how they work, so I'm not just reliant on rote memorization/strict procedures to solve problems. But on the other hand, it's really easy to get lost when reading a textbook to learn; I'm having this issue with Physics at the moment. I think maybe supplementing a textbook with a workbook like the one shown in the video is the best way to learn
@andrewboeger8939

@@JasonJia11 My counter would be that Calculus is basically a "solved" concept and that there is a practically infinite amount of high level, extremely fine tuned, and logical explanations on the subject. When a book is released about Calculus and proceeds to repeat the same proofs in the same "math language", I have to ask why? My stance is that there is a severe lack of digestible math content past Algebra, at least in official textbook form, as in something a teacher would assign. However, I do understand and can appreciate the precision and strict rigor that proof based mathematics books can provide and that desire to understand the concept, even if I think its buried under unnecessary math-speak

Cant recommend it enough. Very good refresher and great for practice. Keep up the amazing videos!!
I had interest in math from so long but could not dare to proceed with masters. I got inspired by you and I have taken up masters now. All thanks to you, sir.
I love this because it looks like he typed it up in Word or OneNote and did very little formatting, which is exactly what I imagine I would do if writing any math instruction. Excellent readability.
My advice to students in differential calculus is that the quality of practice matters more than the quantity. The rules are deterministic and straightforward, once you know them you can differentiate any expressions involving the standard functions. Doing fewer examples with more intense focus and concentration is better. Along with this, do not hesitate to handwrite large expressions. A common thing that slows students down is this hesitation to write things out, leading to skipping steps and mistakes. Calculus 1 is an extreme handwriting class. It's a good chance to turn your childhood school handwriting into adult handwriting too.

@@maalikserebryakov Hmm yes I can imagine. When I talk about writing everything out, I don't necessarily mean "showing steps" (like writing *(sin x / sin x) to multiply on top and bottom). I'm in favor of doing the steps mentally, but only doing a few steps per line of rewriting the expression.

I bought this book last year and have had it on my shelf. This video reminded me! I was working out of Stewart..... now I have this. YES!! Pulled it off my shelf and I am going to go through this. Yes, I've used this book for fun to brush up on my mechanical skills in calc. Wish I had this one in 1960 when in high school. What is also impressive about Chris McMullen and his MANY excellent books is that ALL his books are reasonably priced. This is a big deal because many students are being ripped off by publishers charging exorbitant prices for academic textbooks. Thanks for your review.

"Differential and Integral Calculus" by William Anthony Granville is so good and was so famous that even in the Soviet Union was used as a textbook in the 1940s and 1950s. Zeldovich and Yaglom mention this in the introduction to their book "Higher Math for Begineers (Mostly Phycisists and Engineers)". And this Zeldovich and Yaglom book is about Calculus I and II applied to Physics, with a lot of additional and interesting information.

Dr. McMullen was my high school physics teacher and on the strength of his instruction, I passed my college physics class with a high B despite rarely attending. He has a number of similar-style books for various other subjects (including physics!) which, without seeing, I am confident are just as high quality. Dr. McMullen was (and presumably still is) passionate about both education and the material he was teaching. It does not surprise me at all to see him garner such accolades.
