The Ultimate Boondocking Guide
In this episode we break down the life of boondocking with tips tricks and some RV banter. Our hope is that we are able to show you that boondocking show not be daunting and instead an amazing experience!
What is boondocking? Boondocking, also known as dry camping or wilderness camping, is the practice of camping in an RV without hookups for electricity, water, or sewage. This means you have to be self-sufficient and rely on your RV's battery, water tanks, and waste holding tanks.
While boondocking may seem intimidating at first, it's a fantastic way to fully embrace the freedom and independence of RV living. It allows you to camp in some of the most beautiful and remote locations, off the beaten path and away from crowded RV parks.
Boondocking requires careful planning and resource management, as you need to conserve your energy and water usage. It's also important to follow Leave No Trace principles and respect the land you're camping on.
But the rewards of boondocking far outweigh the challenges. Imagine waking up to stunning views of nature, with no one else around for miles. Or spending a quiet evening around a campfire, under a blanket of stars. It's a truly unique and memorable experience.
If you're new to boondocking, it's a good idea to start with shorter trips and gradually build up your skills and confidence. With the right preparation and mindset, boondocking in an RV can be a fun and rewarding adventure.

We've found water the biggest issue. Body wipes fewer showers, as stated bucket extra, paper plates and eat with your fingers.

Hi John. You will love it. Thanks for watching and commenting! 😀😀
Great video! In AZ I think the distance to camp from a watering hole is 1/4 mile. Also, stay on the road/trails! Don’t go cutting through the desert/forest/meadows. My 35 gallons of fresh water lasts me about 3-4 weeks. Leave it cleaner than you found it!

Excellent video with goood tips!!! One thing I’d like add is that we utilize google earth and conduct a recon on tje area we are going to as well as the RV parks. There is a measurement tool up top (a ruler) that you can drop a waypoint and then drop another and measure the distance. Vereeee helpful to assess your surroundings and identify potential problems. 👍😃🍻

ABOUT THE FRIDGE. IF YOUR NOT IN AND OUT OF THE FRIDGE ALL DAY LONG YOU CAN, AND I HAVE, LEFT IT OFF FOR THE DAY AND RESTARTED FOR THE NIGHT. WE NEVER DRIVE WITH THE FRIDGE ON WHILE WE DRIVE. WE'VE MADE MORE THAN ENOUGH 8 HOUR TRAVEL DAYS AND THE FRIDGE KEPT EVERY THING COLD.

Love the points you made. But what about Dr appt’s, and receiving packages? But actually, maybe you can do something other than boondocking tips. Seems like we’ve gotten enough for awhile. Anything else new going on?

Since you are in the Southwest, more particularly Arizona, maybe you can take a pink jeep tour and learn about Saguaro cactus’s (and then teach us), or the Air Force bone yard down near Tucson, or research about some of the history of the state. Or the migration of the Monarch butterfly through the area. What about any observatories in the state?

I'd like to suggest to people who want to boondock and plan to use a contractor-style generator, don't do it. Their sound can carry for miles and most people are out there to enjoy the solitude. Inverter-style generators are more affordable than ever, e.g., the Predator brand at Harbor Freight.

Well stated! A. You can plan and build an 800 watt solar system for $2,500 and do it yourself. See the Do it Yourself book by Will Prouse; or B. Buy a used Onan Microquiet built in 5KW gen set for $2,500.

Right. Wave to those huge mining trucks roaring by at 5 A M. Do they kick up enough dust to put a blanket on your rig?
