The Ultimate Beginners Guide to Cities Skylines 2 | UBG 1

Ойындар

If you've just picked up Cities Skylines and are struggling to build a thriving city, I’m here to help! In this series, I’ll help you build a thriving city, starting with the modest bones of a small town and slowly growing it into a megalopolis! Along the way, we’ll explore the game’s mechanics and I’ll share tips and tricks I’ve learned from my time with the game. I’ll also share how I design cities based upon my experience as a real-life city planner. This is an ongoing series that we’ll also use to explore new DLCs and Content Creator Packs as they are introduced to the game.
In today’s video, we’ll cover a number of topics including: how to start a city, laying out a basic grid, utilities, outside connections, zoning, progression and milestones, the development tree, city happiness, the city economy, rezoning, and city expansion. We’ll build our humble town to a population of 1,000 - building all of the services needed to support a city of that size.

    The reason SLC has such a large grid is that originally there were garden spaces in the center of each block. Today there are only a couple left, most of it has been developed and roads run through them making the grid twice as tight

    I think the most important thing to learn in CS2 is even if we now have 6 square on each side of the roads does not means we have to zone all of them. Aquiring a sense of scale is very important in this game and you are absolutely right to put it in perspective with real life grid comparaison. In a lot of videos I saw people do giant grid for their tiny rural village, that's ridiculous.

  • @estelyen

    @estelyen

    Very interesting to see someone with the same profile icon ;) And I agree, coming from CS1, you really have to adjust your way of thinking on the scale of things. The housing is fine on smaller grids, but many ploppables are absolutely huge compared with their CS1 counterparts. That shouldn't be a reason to build your grid to accommodate them though: Especially with the building addons, we should really be more prepared to switch existing things around a lot more or even demolish stuff to make room, including roads. I like that, because the city will look less artificial afterwards!

    48:50 the awesome thing about the simulation in this sequel is that, not only accidents but the mini-"event" that is called "Traffic Jam" also matters. I had a non-traffic lighted intersection in the very entrance to my town, and it lead to a true traffic jam as a single car responsible got "stuck" inside the intersection itself, in the middle, due to the lane he tried to turn into, was blocked by another truck, which ofc lead to every other lane also being blocked in said intersection. Just like it happens irl. Adding a traffic light eventually cleared it up, as it prevents "colliding" lanes from blocking each other the same way. Just very cool that the game has a dedicated "traffic jam" event detection, that isnt just some arbitrary "very high traffic density" trigger, but actually triggers when a car gets specifically stuck in an intersection.

    The game looks great, the new features and gameplay are a builders dream with a whole new level of complexity to keep things interesting. Unfortunately the spec requirement exceeds my PC and I cannot justify upgrading my hardware for just one game. Looking forward to seeing what you can build and how the game develops. Meanwhile I will keep playing City Skylines 1.

    I have been following you closely for quite a while (I swear I was subscribed to you already, but I just subscribed today...). I believe you had just picked up Cities Skylines when I first started following you. I haven't even watched much of this video, but I wanted to say that the concept is incredible. To have a city that you can come back to for any new content/DLC is a great idea. I have appreciated watching you grow into the Cities player that you are now. Your desire to stay as reasonably consistent with ACTUAL city planning is such a unique, entertaining (and informative) choice and I love the content. I'll have you know, WHENEVER I introduce Cities to anyone I tell them to watch You & Biffa. Allstars.

    Thank you so much for all the work you put into your videos. I have researched so many books on city planning because your channel over the years, got me hooked on the subject, and helped me be a better builder. I am frustrated though because I want to make mixed income neighborhoods, and seem to hit a roadblock with land value. I don't know if it is the game mechanics, or my own misunderstanding of the new content. I am in love with the new rowhouses and the addition of the welfare office. I really want to make special and beautifully historied neighborhoods like Brooklyn. Thank you so much for your content and knowledge you share on youtube. Also, I love the influence you have had on 2. The lo fi channel, and the way certain mechanics of the new game were definitely cause the devs watched your channel. lol
