    This is one of the few beginner tutorials that show you right away the importance of connecting clips and also being able to move the connection point. It's one of the most fundamental aspects to understanding the magnetic timeline and I think the biggest hurdle for newcomers, especially since no other NLE has this feature. Bravo for making it a priority!

    I've been using FCP since 2018. For the most part have learned and struggled along the way with personal / Amateur / Hobby type videos. I've recently put the FCP Hobby on a higher priority, and you have caught my eye with your videos; but I have to say this "The Ultimate Beginner's Guide to Final Cut Pro for 2023", is by far the best FCP video I've seen. Likely to watch it a few more time making notes on the letter shortcuts like Q, E, etc. I like that you keep the information coming fast and furious. You explain why your screen is different when you need to; and you probably edit out goofs. Just a clean and helpful flow of presentation. This video was very comprehensive, I've been doing a few things the hard way because I didn't know better. Any hoot, Thanks, will hit like, have already been subscribed for months. Think I'll look into your memberships. THANKS

    As I’m new to FCP is really seems like a foreign language and hence requires a lot of learning. Other video editing programs I have used have been more like DAW,s in the way they work. There are many “ how to” videos out there and I thank everyone for them. By looking at them all, you pick up different tips and methods to accomplish the same task. This video had a slightly more practical slant on “how to” and a lot of things that were a mystery are now solved. Things that were glossed over elsewhere were explained and the learning process is becoming easier as these explanations have made other processes , such as multi cam a more logical process(if that’s the right term). Even his advertisement was informative. Everything is easy when you know how. So thank you Dylan.

    Very helpful video, I'm finally moving from Final Cut Express on my old iMac to Final Cut Pro on the laptop, and the changes are dramatic. However, for the beginner, a few things were skipped, like using the arrow keys to move back and forth a clip at a time. Meanwhile you jumped into customizing keyboard commands, which is probably not needed until you're pretty comfortable with all the features you're going to need (so you don't borrow a key from something else that becomes important). Edit - just applied the H.264 codec instead of default Apple high-quality - what a space saver! Now my files can go on my cheap USB sticks I want to hand out to family members :)

Does it have to match the resolution and frame rate of the imported clips? What if say I have a mixture of 4k/60p, 4k/30p n 1080/60p clips - will they all be converted and output to 1080/24p if I wanted to set this for the Project?

    hello Dylan, great video - but I'm having trouble cutting and moving. My final cut pro is set to cut/mark/move frame by frame - I don't know how to turn it off - so that I can cut the video where I want or put a marker and/or move the video where I want and by what distance I want, not by frames ... I can also put markers only on the frame markings on the bar with time - I would like to turn it off - because it is annoying and prevents any work in this program, because it is impossible to trim audio or video exactly .... thanks for your reply

    Great vid, couple of questions: how to turn off magnetic timeline? how to make playhead always follow timeline? how much ram are you using on your system? I'm leaving Avid, finally, LOVE FCP, just having to translate different aps lango, same functions, different names. The audio selection that adds keyframes automatically is brilliant, I do a lot of music videos and is the reason I need a Non-magnetic timeline. Great presentation!

    Hi, I'm Giovanni and I'm subscribed to your very interesting channel. I wanted to ask you a question that I can't seem to solve. First things first: I wanted to know how I can narrow down the font pop-up window in Final Cut. After entering a default title, clicking on the inspector to choose another one, the pop-up window of the various fonts opens, which is very large, not allowing me to preview the font on the viewer. Now, I've tried hard to shrink the font window without success. Can you tell me if there is a way to narrow down this font menu so that I can see the whole viewer and consequently the font on the viewer? I hope I have explained myself well. Thank you

I have one clip on top of the other, and the one on topic darker than the other so Im trying to blend the edges but can't find the "Keyer" tab in this newer version of FCPX. Would you suggest using the "Green Screen Keyer" or the Luma Keyed to blend the edges if the darker clip to the lighter one? Thank you!!

  • @TheFinalCutBro

    @TheFinalCutBro

    I’d use the Luma keyer if you’re blending a darker clip to a lighter one! The green screen keyer is color based, the luma keyer is luminance based. Hope that helps!

    A mixture of both! I love working off the internal drive if I have enough space. Then move it to cheap spinning hard drives for long storage. If I don’t have space, I work off a Samsung t7 drive, as it’s plenty fast for 95% of what I do.

    Okay absolutely loved this as a longtime user of FCP. A refresher on these shortcuts is always great. But one thing I was hoping I'd see. At 10:50 you applied the transitions to the title "subscribe." When I do this I can no longer move the title and I see that you didn't do that here. The only way to adjust it for me is by cutting it and pasting it if it's not in proper place which is annoying. Am I missing something? Cause every time I go to move a title or clip that sits above the timeline with transitions applied I get a circle with a line through it telling me I can't move it. Thank you for your great work as always!

  • @TheFinalCutBro

    @TheFinalCutBro

    Жыл бұрын

    Great point! Wish I had covered that. So to move the title, you’ll need to grab the gray bar that’s above the title. This is because when you apply a transition to a connected clip, it creates a “secondary storyline”. With a secondary storyline you can drag in multiple clips, and it acts just like the magnetic timeline, in that clips will always remain together. For that reason, you need to actually grab the secondary storyline, rather than individual clips for it to be moved. Hopefully that solves your problem!
