I know me and my fellow 10 year old friends knew about it... but from where ?... @@paulwalsh2344 You knew about it because it was rumor that it existed, an Urban Legend that turned out to be true. Like that kid that ate a bunch of pop-rocks then drank a bunch of cola, and his stomach exploded - except THAT never happened.. These were advertised primarily in pornographic magazines, like Hustler and PlayBoy. Doubtless older children saw the advertisements and passed on the information to their younger siblings and friends. By the time it reached you at 10, it was merely rumor, because most 10 year old kids don't even know what pornography is. Well, back then they didn't.

"finished a level" let's say... that was the climactic apocalyptic end sound effect from Atari 2600 "Battlezone" that I heard in my head too... @@dtester Most adult titles are Japan only, and all are unlicensed games. There were at least three to see release in US, though, all by the company Panesian. Hot Slots, Peek-A-Boo Poker, and Bubble Bath Babes. BBB is an okay puzzle game - like not good really but compared to NES slot machine/poker games that might show some skin if RNG is in your favor... at least it is a game.

@@dtester I think you're wrong about adult games on the NES. Nintendo tightly controlled what games could be run on their system, and to run on their system they included a security chip in each cartridge. If the security chip wasn't there, the program wouldn't run. A few companies got around this, but they were mostly RELIGIOUS games like Bible Adventures. You can look up "Bible Adventures AVGN" here if you want to see them. They bypassed the security chip by using the security chip of a legitimate cartridge, and the connection was... weird. CodeMaster (the company) used this method. Companies got around in various ways.

Great vid and great delivery. When searching for roms to play on my PC I found this game called Harem for the VCS, not sure if it was a beta or if it was actually released back in the day, have you ever heard of it? It's not too bad in terms of playability.

Had never heard of it so I looked it up. It's a prototype that never had a release or even a manual. I gave it a quick try and it looks good, though I can't figure out what to do. A manual would definitely help!

This reminds of my experience with Strip Poker for the C64 as a kid. We played a ‚backup copy‘ (so the original game wasn’t damaged 😏) and the pictures had more graphic glitches the farther you progressed. I know now that this was probably a clever copy protection, but then, we were seriously frustrated by this coincidence 😂.

(Slow claps). I’ve lived 45 years on this Earth, and I am myself a bit of a game history nerd. I couldn’t say I’ve played every game ever, but certainly thought I had a strong awareness of the games that were made since my birth, even a little before, like the odyssey…. It’s rare that someone shows me something completely new about games history, yet here we are…. You did it! And thank you for this. I almost feel like I’ve transported to an alternate reality or something! Lol.

The 'Sexy Surprise" level of X-man reminds me of 'Stroker 64' on the Commodore 64 which relied on moving the joystick in just the right rhythms to grow your tool as big as possible then faster and faster when you were ready for the 'big climax' and how much you would shoot. 13 year old lil' Exidy got a kick out of it, but the fact it was colour PETSCII graphics and had a terrible song to stroke by ment it fell limp after a few months. ;-) Still, it sticks in your memory. A good and accurate rating scale on your video, but I might have given the Dragonfire rip-off a B rather then a C. That's about it tho. Custer's Revenge wasn't even a game, it was a demo of offensiveness. Even back then.

As someone born mid-1979 and growing up in the 80’s and 90’s, the rudimentary crudeness of things like this makes me chuckle. But I completely remember things like this. Just like one of your friend’s dad’s Playboy magazine collections hidden under the bed or something, taboo things like these games were those hidden dirty little secrets that random people had. I think we all knew at least one person who knew where one was. Sometimes it was an adult video on VHS. As the 90’s came around, I remember a single one of my friends had an internet connection in the very early days of that (something most of us didn’t even understand), and had found maybe one place where he could download a VERY pixelated nude image or two of women, at an absolute snail’s pace. It’s all really funny to look back on. I was never one of those troublemaker kids growing up at all, but coming from a pretty conservative family, where things like nudity, sex, or profanity were VERY taboo and forbidden, and weren’t easy to be exposed to at all like today, I have to say it felt good to sneak a quick peek at certain things. Even if they were just barely recognizable. Crazy how things have changed, and how seemingly innocent this all looks now.
