As soon as I saw the paprika spill, I instantly thought, "Is that the hot smoked paprika??..." Turns out it was...I kinda wonder if that's what swayed Ben as well? Because I feel like Mike did an amazing job and also included a side dish, while Barry's dish would only take him 15 more minutes without a machine. I feel like Barry's dish could have been done faster with a normal kitchen, since you could have had both things on the go, where Mike showed that he saved time by doing a side dish (and he also seasoned! And cooked without a Huttlestorm!!)

In my personal opinion, as someone who hasn't had the opportunity to taste those dishes (which all sound absolutely banging by the way), I would rate as such: 3rd: Jamie's 2nd: Barry's 1st: Mike's Mike's just looks really good, and his side dish (which seems to complement the main dish well) was able to be made in the time limit, gets my vote. Although I can see the reasoning for Barry's being up there as well.

Curry based Cottage Pie This is another recipe I developed to suit our family’s love for curry based meat dish. It is so easy to make with the help of TOKIT OMNI Cook. The mashed potato layer is so creamy and decadent, while the curry ground beef layer is so full of flavor and tongue tingling spicy! Perfect on any type of the weather and day of the week! Ingredients : For creamy mashed potatoes : • 35 oz potatoes, peeled, cut into pieces (1 inch.) • 8 oz whole milk • 4 oz grated parmesan cheese • 1 tsp salt • ¼ tsp ground black pepper • 4 oz unsalted butter For curry ground beef layer : • 8 oz yellow onions, cut into pieces • 2 cloves of garlic • 2 tbs curry powder • 1tbs chili powder • 1 tsp coriander powder • 2 sprigs curry leaves (optional) • ½ oz vegetable cooking oil • 20 oz ground beef, broken into pieces • ½ tsp salt, to taste • 1 tbp sugar • ½ tsp tamarind paste Steps : 1. Place garlic, onion, and cooking oil into OMNI Cook mixing bowl and chop 5 sec/speed 7, then cook 30 min/120-Degree C/Rev 1. 2. Add ground beef, curry leaves, chili powder, curry powder, sugar, tamarind paste and salt, gently stir through with spatula and cook 20 min/120-Degree C/speed 1. 3. Take out curry leaves then transfer beef fillings into an oval baking dish (approx. 3 qt.) and set aside to keep warm. 4. Place potatoes, milk, salt and pepper into mixing bowl and cook 30 min/100-Degree C/speed 2. 5. Add butter to mixing bowl and blend 15 sec/speed 7. 6. Meanwhile preheat oven to 400°F. 7. Spread mashed potatoes over meat mixture, then crosshatch the top with a fork. Sprinkle the parmesan cheese. 8. Bake for 30 minutes (400°F) until browned and bubbling. Allow to rest 10 minutes before serving. #TOKITSquad

I can't get over the fact that these normals keep forgetting to salt their food (this happens A LOT on Sorted). That is the most basic, universal cooking rule that applies to pretty much all dishes (you either add salt or something very salty like soy/fishsauce) including many deserts and most baked goods. These guys know how to make the different types of meringue by memory, but can't remember to taste the food they're cooking and identify a lack of salt (or just put salt in by reflex even if you don't taste). How have they been awarded basic seasoning badges?

  • @MrGrimsmith

Very good point. For me, *tasting* is a reflex action, the seasoning naturally follows.

I guess it all depends on the person. I’ve had to learn not to impulsively reach for the salt shaker because my health situation changed and salt can no longer be a huge part of my general diet. I’ve gotten real creative with other seasonings, but when I’m cooking for others I can easily forget that’s a thing. Obviously that may not be the case for any of these folks, but time stipulations can make a huge difference and cause something “basic” to be left out. If I was doing a thirty minute challenge and I needed to remember how to make a Swiss meringue and to season with salt, my brain would probably prioritize the more important matter.

@@aerynea that does make me wonder. andouille sausage is such a staple in New Orleans jambalaya (at least for me) - as well as a third item chicken. Those are the flavours that would remind me of home. Chorizo has such a distinct flavour, and that oil that comes from it that may change it for me.

They did a number of substitutes based on being in the UK I think - not sure if Andouille is impossible to get in the UK, but I would have thought it'd be available without too much trouble. Then again, in Europe at large it might be hard to find in a lot of places. They also subbed feta for cotija on the elotes (not a bad substitute, but different). I don't think I've ever seen a Mexican salsa include bell pepper, though it wouldn't shock me if it existed. That was the weirdest one to me

@@ribosomes3227 Most British jambalaya recipes use Chorizo I’m afraid! Andouille is certainly more available here now than a few years ago and certainly they’d be able to get their hands on it in London. However as this video seemed to be focused on midweek meals they were probably trying to use ingredients you’re more likely to find in your supermarket. You are definitely able to find chorizo there, but you probably won’t find Andouille.

Slow-Cooked Beef Chilli My family loves this recipe, and Im sure the Omni Cook can make this an easy recipe to make! It contains "unusual" additions, but the umami flavor is awesome! And we love how almost everything uses "1" (e.g 1 tbsp / 1 tsp / 1 can / etc.) Ingredients: 500g of ground beef 4 cloves of garlic (minced) 4 tbsp of tomato puree 1 onion (diced) 1 can of tomatoes (crushed) 1 tbsp of dried oregano 1 tbsp of cumin powder 1 tbsp of chilli powder 1 tbsp of paprika 1 tbsp of cayenne pepper (optional) 1 tbsp of oil 1 cup of beef stock 1 tbsp of Worchestershire sauce 1 tbsp of fish sauce 1 tbsp of soy sauce 1 tsp of cocoa powder Salt Pepper Brown sugar 1) Add oil into a pot. Saute onions and garlic until fragrant. 2) Add the seasonings (cumin powder, chilli powder, oregano, paprika, cayenne pepper). Stir constantly until fragrant. 3) Add in the ground beef and stir to mix the spices with the beef. Allow the beef to brown. You can remove the juices and save them into another bowl. 4) Add in the beef stock, Worchestershire sauce, fish sauce, soy sauce and cocoa powder. Be sure to deglaze the pan. Add in the saved juices from earlier. 5) Add in tomato paste and the can of tomatoes. Season with salt, pepper and brown sugar to your liking. 4) Bring the pot to a very gentle simmer and cover with a lid. Let it cook for 4-5 hours. After it is done, you can top it off with toppings of your choice! Be it kidney beans, sour cream, green onions, peppers, etc! It will always taste good! #tokitsquad

Add sugar and mango filling. Sugar can be adjusted to taste. 3. Add evaporated milk and yellow colouring. Stir until boiling. Turn off the stove. Let it cool. 4. When cool, pour into a container. Store in the refrigerator for 4-6 hours or overnight. Strawberry Ice Blended 450g full cream milk 2 tbs condensed milk 2-3 tbs strawberry jam 400g ice cube 1.Blend together full cream milk, condensed milk and strawberry jam in a blender. 2.Add ice cube and grind again at high speed until everything is well blended and smooth. 3. Put mango pudding in a glass. Pour in strawberry milkshake. Ready to serve ❤️ #TOKITSquad

Ingredients: 250g Pasta 1 stalk lime leaves 3 bird's eye chilli 1 stalk lemongrass 2 slices of ginger 2 tbsp of Tom Yum Paste 1 cup of cooking cream 2 tbsp of butter Lime slices Salt Pepper As desired: Squid Shrimps Mussells Or any other seafood! 1) In a pot, boil pasta until al dente (follow packaging instructions). 2) In a pot over medium heat, melt butter. Add in chopped chillis, ginger, smashed lemongrass and lime leaves. 3) When fragrant, add in tom yum paste. 4) Once tom yum paste incorporated, add in cooking cream. Still until all is well combined. 5) Add in the seafood and leave to cook for about 5 minutes. 6) Toss in pasta and enjoy! Add in a squeeze of lime for that extra kick! Simple! #TOKITSquad

"Two people, and a screaming toddler..." Is it wrong that I wondered whether Baz was talking about himself as a toddler? JK! The all-in-one appliances are a conundrum. There have been plenty of less-capable ones that filled our shelves, unused. Something like the TOKIT, that truly has value, but requires creativity, and a programmer-level usability, has a place in the kitchen. But, do we want to "write a program" each time we cook a meal?...

I would imagine that it depends on the meal you are making. If you can figure out the timing for a recipe, you can make it the same way every time and it gives you consistency. I have heard a saying that usually applies to a lot of those all-in-one things, "Jack of all trades, master of none." Probably depends on how good you can get with the device and if it actually allows you to do things faster or better than normal.
