Welcome to another good ol girl talk! This time we’re tackling unrealistic beauty standards, Facetune, Snapchat and Instagram filters, diversity (or lace thereof), social media, and ~girlboss~ marketing. Can I just confess my insecurities for a sec? I just need to get it out without somebody telling me to shut up for once. I don't like my undefined Asian nose, my thin dark brown hair, my non glass skin, how skinny I am, my nose blackheads, and my small eyes. I think after typing out this long list of things I don't like about myself, I noticed how small these things are. I just wish I didn't have to feel like I needed to prove the rest of the world that I was worthy by being beautiful. I don't need to prove anything to anyone, but I constantly pressure myself to think that I do. Now, i'm realizing that I am beautiful. Not by the world's standards, but beautiful in a way that i'm starting to start to love myself.

    You also gotta understand what your body is trying to communicate to you through these skin issues. Our bodies are electromagnetic information fields that demonstrate the issues we are facing in our lives by transmitting information. This information will then show up in our physical body as errors like dis-ease, skin issues, etc. Really what I'm trying to say is to pay attention to what your body is trying to tell you, and don't ignore the signs it's trying so hard to communicate 💚

As a girl I am very self confident about my looks and if I could bottle up that feeling and hand it out to everyone I would and I get other people aren’t like me and I am very grateful but I still have my moments where I have to say to myself. “It’s ok”. Remember. Beauty doesn’t come from the face, it comes from the light in the heart

    it's hard for me bc where i live NO one gets acne. like, not even a pimple. everyone has glass perfect skin, and they don't even wear makeup. plus, you can't cover up pimples + acne with foundation, its very obvious underneath. to make it worse, i'm indian, so ALL my relatives and family friends have absolutely perfect skin, and they always stare at me lol. plus, its true everyone gets pimples, but it feels a lot different to "get a pimple" than to have actual, heavy acne.

    “I didn’t realize that all the things I hated the most about my face were the things that were most asian” I felt this in my core. I just realized this last year. I’m Hispanic, though I often get confused for Asian, especially when I moved to NC from NM where pretty much everyone is Hispanic. I realized it differently though. One day, as I was thinking about the features on a face that I found to be most beautiful, I realized that it was a white face. Rounded eyes, pale skin that turned pink in cold weather, smooth hair (I have curly hair) and the two things you listed: a pointed noise and strong cheekbones. THESE ARE PRIMARILY WHITE FEATURES. Of course I could never be happy with my face. I wanted to achieve something that I could never have. I was so mad at myself for this internalized idea of beauty and surprised that somehow, though I have found so much beauty in a variety of skin tones all my life, it was still ingrained in me that white features were the epitome.

    I agree with the entire Eurocentric beauty rant, because personally I’ve been insecure my entire life of my “squinty” eyes and how small/thin they are, but I also have another take about how with big lips and a big ass being “in” now, it’s also cool to look “racially ambiguous” (take Kylie Jenner for example) but as long as it’s sexually appealing and you aren’t too far away from the white standard

    Angel, that’s what my friend did sometimes. i don’t talk to her as much now. i realized its very very toxic.. you’re beautiful and you shouldnt tolerate that. she just wants a reaction out of you. act unbothered, or if it REALLY bothers you, tell her!! but be chill about it. also this last part might sound harsh, but if you don’t want to do any of the other things i suggested, then give her a little taste of her own medicine. (i wouldn’t, because i don’t want to stoop down to their level). BUT JUST REMEMBER YOU’RE BEAUTIFUL 🥺💗! I KNOW IT. own it, cause you’re a true queen. you’ll learn to be confident in yourself!

    My boyfriend does the same thing to me. He points out every new pimple or if I look a little plum that day. We had a facetime after ages (yknow quarantine) and he pointed out how fat I had become. He points out my body hair too or how dark my skin is. But I'm in love with the way he's so spontaneous and adventurous. Everything about him just makes me feel lucky to have him. But I've noticed i dress up and sit in front of the mirror for atleast an hour and a half before I've to meet him. (And I don't even use makeup. Cus it's supposed to take time. Idk what I do that entire hour) I suck in my stomach sometimes too I guess. Idk why I said all that. You don't have to reply. I'm just venting. That video was beautiful. I needed that. 😔😫💕

  • @pleasedontlookforme8036

    @pleasedontlookforme8036

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@giannakayira8133 I get that feeling too, though for me it's "I'd rather be southeast Asian than Central Asian (iranic/afghan) because southeast Asians are so gorgeous". But then lately I've been asking myself why I don't think that I'm beautiful being the race that I am now, and once I evaluated that, like Ashley, it always came back to Eurocentrism and Eurocentric featurism. Anime consumption also really heavily affected me aswell (I grew up on it and still heavily consume it), which whilst also indirectly promoting Eurocentric beauty standards, despite being of Japanese origin (though that's a massive topic in and of itself), brought to me toxic Asian beauty standards as well. I mainly really hated my big nose, which ironically enough is my most ethnic feature since I'm fairly white passing, and I also felt I wasn't light enough, or tall enough, or I was insecure about my jawline, or my body, or my unruly hair - and I would see Asian girls and white girls as women who were born without my "ugly" features - they'd be paper-white fair, small nose, the white women were tall, the Asian girls had beautiful jawlines, and both had the most silky manageable, beautiful hair. But these are just stereotyped generalisations of very vast populations, and most of these people don't look like the beauty standards their societies enforce, which harms them just as much as me. Basically, what I'm trying to say is, not every Asian woman is the perfect image of an Asian woman you have in your head, and being African doesn't make you any less beautiful.

    @@jess6155 yeet i'm half white but i never spent time with my white side of the family, and growing up in vancouver, i was always surrounded by asians. i love that side of my family, but everybody (my friends and strangers) honestly think i'm, like, full white? and, i don't know why that makes me feel really sad but it does? it kinda just makes me feel like an imposter. can't joke about being asian with my friends, can't identify myself as a white girl. i feel really left out honestly and it sucks. i know my friends deal with wanting to be lighter, but honestly? i wish i wasn't stuck in the middle, looking like an alien, like i don't really belong anywhere. it's stupid. and it's weird because i've got all features that don't suit my face at all. and, i know every asian looks different (my mom looks half, but she's full, my half w/a little cousins look full white, and my full asian cousins look half, my grandparents look full), but i just wished i looked a little more like one side with features more proportionate to one? because i've never really met a person who looks like me, and half the time i don't even recognize the person staring back at me. barely register them as human, or female or male (hence the makeup). idk. i just... wish i looked more like my mom's side of the family. because at least i know what they look like, and most of them are still alive, y'know?

    i looove what you said about your trip to austin-a few weeks ago i went to cabo and the mirror in the bathroom is SO TALL so I'd literally have to climb on the counter to look at myself. sitting there trying to do my makeup was so uncomfortable, so i didn't spend as much time doing it and honestly, it was so refreshing not seeing and picking myself apart all the time
