You're right about Gaethje, he's not the marauder that he used to be, he's an accurate counter striker now. There are some fights I think he needs that old style though, I think his new style worked against him vs Khabib, but perfectly vs Chandler and Poirier.

Bro did you even watch Khabib fight? He fought exactly like he is fighting right now, he even said he won't fight defensive like that vs Oliveira and fight different. Which was a mistake, it wouldn't work either way vs Khabib since Khabib was going to take Gaethje down either way and Khabib's boxing was working on Gaethje too, but fighting not defensive vs Oliveira was mistake because Oliveira couldn't take Gaethje down with wrestling, Gaethje could outpoint Oliveira if he fought defensively.

This is more of a misunderstood takeaway of a fight and to add on to your Belal point but I just find it weird how everyone online is acting like Leon put on a masterclass domination on Colby when the sig strikes numbers were 54-43 with even takedowns and Colby having more control time and somehow peoples take away from the fight is that Leon put on a masterclass and that Colby sucks, is one of the worst UFC fighters current ranked, and has always been bad. It’s like they praise Leon’s performance while also claiming Colby was never good which doesn’t make any sense considering it was a competitive fight even though ppl don’t want to admit it. I know he’s retired, but since you mentioned Rockhold on the Costa part, I think he was misunderstood too. People think he’s a glass jaw, but it’s more his striking defense was shit. Look at the guys that KO’d him: Yoel Romero and Jan at LHW. No fucking shit if those guys land clean kill shots, of course he’s going down. Just about anyone would. I felt like mentioning this because people say that since Costa didn’t KO Rockhold, he’s trash. lol Rockhold has legit credentials. He just lacks defensive skills. You can’t ignore the time back when that dude was also tearing that division apart. People forget he’s a former UFC champ and act like he has no talent and a glass jaw when that’s far from true.

Thanks for the take on Islam. I see way too many people just talking about him like he is the clone of Khabib, even though his game is much more complete than Khabib's and Islam is just a lot more entertaining.

The only truly boring fight I can think of w Islam is the Dober one a few years ago, for 2 and a half rounds he was just on top not doing too much and he took drew down within 30 seconds of each round so there was no striking to break it up. He still got the finish tho other than that his grappling is fun and his defensive striking is cool to watch

The people who think Islam is boring never heard interviews with him and DC. He’s a very funny dude.

Paulo Costa is way underrated when it comes to his actual ability. Yeah he's the pull out king and he's funny but this guy is a marauder, a total savage 🗣

One of the things I have always respected about bedtime is during the weeks after UFC 284 he said right from the jump that Islam won and I know as an Aussie that must have been hard. He is also on record for not being a Khabib fan so no one can call him a Dagestani glazer 🫡

If anyone can make grappling exciting, it's Khabib. when it comes to grappling, he's even more exciting than Islam. maybe you don' t like his grappling cuz he smashes people with it and doesn't give them a chance, Maybe you prefer a more competitive grappling exchange between fighters, or maybe you just don't like grappling. either way, it's unfair to say Khabib was boring.

but this is it just grappling it’s mma. islam wasn’t just shooting takedowns on volk, he was striking with them and that’s the difference with islam and khabib. islam isn’t scared to strike and goes toe to toe with everyone that’s why he’s far more exciting than khabib.

He isn't boring and already has more finishes and submissions than Khabib. More UFC fights than Khabib. And has goals to move up a weight class. He's literally everything good about Khabib plus way more. He's the ultimate fighter. However I cheer against him every time because he's never been he underdog and his fans absolutely suck

You got Khabib and Islam mixed up. Khabib had one of the most exciting fight styles ever. He had brutal ground and pound, relentless pressure and constant movement. How on earth can you say Islam is exciting but Khabib was boring? Lmao. Islam is exciting too but not nearly as much as Khabib. Khabib used to slam people like a sack of potatoes and elbow their faces in. Remember Pat Healy? Islam is far more... methodical.

Agreed all round. Ppl love to hate and call these guys boring: Leon belal islam and even the same was said about usman woodley and gsp etc. but love a guy like Strickland. Cmon man make it make sense. Also another one is Gilbert burns overall grappling game lol. Sports jujitsu and especially in the gi… low-key one of the (at the highest level) least transferable skill sets to mma. No ones been able to prove that it means anything to have all the accolades that burns has in bjj and transfer that to mma. Ppl love to see him as a grappler but he rly is more of a boxer wrestler than anything.

Islam Makhachev made several mistakes: 1. he is khabibs protege 2. his strength is grappling/wrestling 3. he is muslim 4. he is not from an western country --> not white 5. beating favorites of many mma fans and mma youtubers(mmaguru and so on...) who hate dagestanis. The list goes on and on...

Great vid again. Islam is an insane fighter. Love to watch his fights but my only reason I’ve gotten annoyed with him to where I just don’t care is how he won the belt and has only defended against the same guy twice not even in his division. Not to undermine the magnitude of beating the #1 pound for pound, but he hasn’t done anything for his division. And then started talking about fighting Leon.
