It's no confusion, the higher ups say make every game for everyone so they can make more money and they force that on devs, and then we as gamers suffer for it, it sucks, but it's reality unfortunately

The reason for that is because the games that are great but only appeal to a certain demographic are usually the games that don’t get noticed until years later or just straight up fail financially. Think of the Prototype games, Bully, LA Noire, these games failed at their because the weren’t made to appeal to a really high margin. Not that I’m trying to justify what Ubisoft is doing, I’m just trying to add a different perspective

  • @caiolbarbosa

@@kingqunt8567 I agree with you that from the producers’ perspective, they will seek the easiest and guaranteed way to make money out of the games. It is sad from a gamer perspective though, as it undermines innovation and you end up playing the same game over and over again under a different skin. Over the last year, I feel every AAA game I played followed the same formula and found myself giving more chances to indie games and new formulas. The “games for everyone” will catch a large share of the market and, I think, many people who don’t play a large range. So gamers like myself have to look for the “games for lovers” which, in the end, are shorter, cheaper, but fun. With AC specifically, I still enjoyed Origins and Odyssey. However, Valhalla is so empty, repetitive and boring that I only went to 62 hours of gameplay and gave up. It is like said in the video, 5-10 hours of an interesting story, 60 hours of emptiness and 10 hours for a good end. I probably won’t give a chance to the next AC.

A few days ago my university had a meeting with my local Ubisoft studio for a gamedev class. The Ubiisoft producers, while telling the story of some of their creations literally said - and I'm quoting: "It's fine to create content for your audience to move the player, but you have to think first and foremost of how much you spend, and you are greedy, so you have already thought of it while in pre-production. You have thought about how to keep taking money from their pocket, how to keep their attention alive so that they will buy your next expansion." This shit is really ruining the industry. I hope this video will be heard by many and inspire the masses to reject this situation.

I’ve followed your channel for a little while now and always been an AC fan and had no idea about the behind-the-scenes at Ubisoft. I never even bothered to buy Odyssey or Valhalla for the reasons you mentioned relating to them not being assassin games. Those micro-transactions are absurdly diabolical, though, and likening them to a cell phone game that kids play was spot on. Keep using your voice and keep putting the content out, James. Collectively everyone should call you Rudy and this is somehow an important hill to die on." No one cares. If you're an AC fan and want another reason to dislike Ubisoft, please read this: During the development of AC Brotherhood, Ubisoft approached Patrice Desilets (the maker of AC and a worker at UBI since PoP 1) to demand yearly releases for AC since it was selling very well (10m copies AC1 - PoP 3m) Patrice, working in Gaming out of passion and not greed, refused. The result was that they fired him after 20 years of work.Every other AC that came after AC Brotherhood felt "different" or "lacking" something and that's SOUL, that's what it's lacking. Patrice went on to his own studio, working on a spiritual successor to AC called 1666: Amsterdam (there is a YT trailer) but guess what happened, UBI bought his studio and acquired the IP then fired Desilets. It was a threat to AC since it was made by the man who brought their cash cow to life. It took years of legal battle to get the assets back but now they are outdated and UBI has sunk its teeth too deep in AC's neck to change anything about it. AC 3, AC 4, ROGUE, UNITY etc, they're NOT CANON. They're either spin offs or shadows of the true AC. Before you say that it's just an opinion, the ORIGINAL author was fired. Imagine Game Of Thrones without George RR Martin. How would that be? Oh wait no need to imagine, just go watch the show post George's direction. It's being called bad fanfiction, that's what AC post Ezio is, FANFICTION. The original author was ousted, with him went Jasper Kyd, Jade Raymond and so on. Every other AC that came after Rev was an amateur chef trying to replicate the recipe as right possible. Yet they all miss the point, it's not about the profit or the rentability it's about the process, the passion, and that is gone with Desilets. PS: His studio was part of THQ and when they went bankrupt, UBI swept in to get his IP. PPS: OP, if you read this, please make a video about it.

The games after Ezio weren’t bad though. The Kenway saga was a good story, unity had a lot of wasted potential but bounced back a bit, syndicate is still wasted potential. But they aren’t bad games. I imagine they already had the idea of the story they had in mind for AC 3 as the post credit scene in revelations and the co-ordinates in brotherhood all pointed to America.

Ubisoft has been playing the long game when it comes to anti-consumer conduct.

I have never tought about it like this before, but in a way the entire main story, concept and conflict of Assassin's Creed, reflects the current situation concerning Ubisoft. I first noticed this when replaying AC II and while going through the Auditore crypt in Monteriggioni. One of the qoutes from Dominico, reflecting on the teachings of Dante, goes like this "He taught me that society was set up in such a way as to control it's members, to stop us from thinking, from seeing. Soon, i could look past all the laws and illusions. I understood that mankind was being used by it's rulers, that we, the people, deserve freedom." That literally reads as a satirical critique of Ubisoft's philosophy and actions, written in in such a way as to sound like an old timey text. Im straight up convinced that whoever wrote that whether it was Corey May or some one else, travelled in a freaking time machine to the futere went back and implemented that into the game, just to slam on Ubisoft for what it had become.

Really good video. Hope this gains the traction it deserves. One point that isn't often mentioned in these videos is that watering down your game to appeal to mass markets works in the short term but will cost the company in the long run as its core fan base turn against them. If you don't have people to cheer on your product and it becomes known for mediocrity then you won't have a marketable product. It's short term gain for long term pain and it comes from trying to please shareholders. EDIT: This is obviously a totally separate issue on sexual harassment, something that continues to not be taken seriously enough within the industry and community.

There's a German saying, which basically means that someone expresses exactly what you have felt for a long time but could never quite put into words: "Du sprichst mir aus der Seele". "You're speaking from my soul". I think everyone who buys and plays a Ubisoft game nowadays should have to watch this video first. I think everyone has a right to know whom they are supporting with their money. If they want to support a company as horrible as Ubisoft, then there probably is no point in arguing with them anyways. Games being unique and different to eachother also encourages people to try and experience different things, my taste in different types and genres of games has expanded heaps since I was a kid. I used to like when games were easier and now I love the challenge that doom and wolfenstein give me, the corners they push me in only for me to break out smarter, faster and more adaptive. It was only this year that I got into the resident evil franchise, hell I was never a fan of horror before I hated the fear that it brings, leading up to the release of village I thought playing 7 first would be good to help me understand what was going on and I only left the keyboard because I had to work the next morning but once I got back home I finished it. Now I've finished 7,8, 2 remake and now I'm even playing the first game but most importantly here is that it forced me to overcome fears, to not wuss out when the suspense gets too high it's taught me to be headstrong in a different way to Doom eternal or wolfenstein. All these games all these journeys can contribute to us growing as people, the different itches they scratch and the more variety and niches we have the better, I don't want AC to be another Viking RPG we already have skyrim, God of war, and that other survival one on steam I can't remember the name. Options for playstyles aren't inherently bad but when they contradict what the game is about they hinder it, dj peach cobbler talks about this in one of his videos when he compares Doom Eternal to (another ubi game) Far Cry particularly 5 and how certain new playstyles(flying and carpetbombing locations) undermines what far cry has always been, surviving in a savage location that is a far cry from civilisation striking from the bushes like a tiger or charging in tusks blazing like an elephant using whatever tools and skills your forge in the dangerous locale you've found yourself stranded in, but why do any of that when you can just send in companion after companion and carpet bomb the whole place to get the job done. Whereas a game like Doom eternal unapologetically does what Doom does, no mechanic gets left behind, everything is used and it makes for a game that does what it sets out to do the game play is one of the best I've played in recent years not to mention no microtransactions. Even tlou2 while the story has been a bit controversial the game play nonetheless is still a better version of the first game but it still feels like a tlou game just with new better mechanics that complement the game not bloat it. But anyway I agree with you it feels like garbage to be shoved out if the way after being a loyal fan for all these years, syndicate was the last Ac game I was genuinely excited for up to release and actually preordered, but now after Valhalla I've decided it's going to be the last ubi game I buy without and real screening test and watching a fair amount of critical reviews because they've been watering down a bunch of there games for a while now and I'm fed up with it, AC, WD, GR, RS, FC the list goes on #holdubisoftaccountable
