The U.S. Tested Atomic Bombs, Then I Got Cancer

The Marshall Islands were colonized by the U.S. after World War II, and then mercilessly bombed to test 67 nuclear weapons. The largest of these detonations was Castle Bravo. Tested in 1954, the force of the Castle Bravo explosion was 1,000 times stronger than the bomb dropped on Hiroshima. The fallout from the Castle Bravo test fell on multiple atolls in the Marshall Islands, including Rongelap, where Neisen Laukon grew up.
“Babies were born with no shell to the back of the head,” she said, describing the things she saw while growing up when she grew up on Rongelap Atoll. Neisen also saw her cousins die from cancer caused by the nuclear radiation and personally suffers from thyroid nodules. Nearly 70 years after the nuclear testing in the Pacific Proving Grounds, the Marshall Islanders are still dealing with the consequences.

@@robertv.3796 Try telling that to Putin, but also it's not just about blowing shit up. You think that this is in the past, and that the US military acts more responsibly than they did in the 50s? Look at the recent failure to pass the PACT Act - committing federal funds to veterans who were injured or received debilitating and chronic conditions as a result of exposure to burn pits and waste contamination. And that's just to assist US servicemembers, not the millions of other people across Asia, the Middle East, and the South Pacific who are still suffering the ill-effects of US weaponry and their hazardous waste. This also doesn't speak to the millions of tons of toxic and radioactive waste that is poisoning US aquifers, soil, and air due to the US military firing bombs and munitions on their bases and federal lands. Not only are they exposing their recruits to the hazardous material, the unexploded or discarded grenades, warheads, and bullet casings are creating high levels of carcinogens in the environment directly around the bases. Better hope you don't live near one of the 5000 military bases across the US, or you might be at increased risk for liver and kidney failure, heart disease, lead or mercury poisoning, non-Hodgkins lymphoma, epilepsy, or cancer. They aren't being careful enough avoiding the leak of toxins into the water table or the air, making the US military the most polluting entity in America. Yes, nukes wreak unimaginable devastation, but the daily, and frankly casual, poisoning of US citizens and soldiers is also horrific, and just the tip of the iceberg. Multiply that by the numerous war zones and international bases and naval ships at sea, and the scope of the damage is too immense to comprehend.

But it is alright for the US to spend $70 billion in Ukraine to fight a proxy war with Russia and another $11 billion a year on spreading lies and propagandas against China, Russia, Iran, North Korea, etc! Thanks for covering this story and others about indigenous peoples experiences, including the impact of imperialist/colonialist attitudes. As a US citizen, I view our country's actions as even more deplorable because of the values we claim to uphold: freedom, equality, life, and livelihood.... No government is perfect, but if we're going to talk the talk, then we must at least show we're trying to walk the walk, which is not what happened for the Marshallese, or others in the recent past. We need to support land/water rights, environmental legislation, and any measure or candidates that are about indigenous rights. In addition, the same applies to corporations that violate rights, exploiting people and their lands. Boycott and divest, don't support. Our voices need to be heard. We need to unite to make this change to protect people and our future. Much respect to the Marshallese people for pushing forward despite this horror. I will be looking for opportunities to support your cause, and hope progress will come quicker in compensation and remediation of the radiation on the islands. 💜

As a Marshallese American citizen who isn’t a native from KBE but from majuro, wotje, arno etc (ratak chain) but still had cxncer “randomly” its infuriating and depressing to think about the future of my homeland and future generations. Its scary to want to have kids but afraid they might end up handicap or worse, miscarriage bc of mines and my ancestors medical history. The US has a long way to go if they think the end of the COFA agreement will resolve everything they had destroyed back home

You believe that our schools do something? As a student in a high school student I’ve seen people who do not even know of the world wars. There are far bigger issues in our education system and by trying to push CRT and other curriculum that is useless info by saying we need to “learn from past mistakes” as if it is not common sense to not harm innocent people and commit mass genocide. I understand my experience is not universal but as a student who does get taught CRT and other stuff that is probably even more useless than that it’s very annoying hearing you want to waste more of my time. When it comes down it ,something me and my peers have been taught since the first day of kindergarten “treat others how you want to be treated”.

Unfortunately, the United States has been the only nation to use nukes against people as many times as we have. Not only did we use them against Japan but we did tests on the Marshall Islands that crippled people gave them many different Cancers and death sentences because of our negligence. Unfortunately even though I am American.....because I am spiritual and I read cards.... I can see that collectively the United States is due to pay its karmic debt. I did a tarot reading about this on my channel.

The problem countries faces now in south america are all connected to the US interference. bad economy people living in poverty you name it. everything you see today in south america is all created by the US because they decided to commit coups in those countries. but if you tell people this they will think you are spewing propaganda. people dont like facts anymore.
