People have destroyed their lives trying to do dangerous challenges thought up by China. The app was malicious by design and did more harm than good. For me it’s not about the app being banned or ownership of it. To me what really matters is the facade that the government wants to protect user data, and that they are trying to set a precedent to control what media you are consuming. If Zuckerberg bought TikTok tomorrow, China would still be able to access all of TikTok and Facebook users data, the only difference is now a US company is getting a cut of the money. If they really cared about the American peoples data then they would be trying to shut down all forms of social media and any service that discreetly collects user data.
